Many thanks to everyone on the board. I feel I made an informed purchase because of the information gleaned here.
I still want a WWII gun, but I made a deal on a West Hurley 28 (5xxA) 1977 manufacture. Now I will be able to use the drums and stick mags I have collected in the last year.
The gun has been stored for years and fired little, but works fine. The dealer selling it for the registered owner sold it new.
I plan on enjoying this and the next one with my 2 sons. With my savings account paying a whopping 1 1/2%, I think my money will do better in the TSMG investment portfolio. (This was way cheaper than buying a Harley-and safer too!!)
Thanks again everyone,
Uncle Dudley

Have fun; Your gun's past sounds like mine. Made in 1977, shot a little, parkerized by the owner, then in the safe from 1981 till 2003, in Tulsa Oklahoma. Now it is next to Ft.Knox, Ky............jw

Unc, what is your number on the gun? Mine is 587A. You don't have to xxx them out, nobody is going to take it.

I have a new "grandnephew" and a new Thompson as of 4-11-2005. It won't be long til he says: "Let's go to Uncle Dudley's and shoot the machine gun."
