Is there a difference in the mag release between a drum and a stick mag?

Most specilically, if one was to cut an m1a1 to accept a drum mag, would any of the lower parts need to be swapped or converted? I dont have access to a gun that accepts drums at this time to look for myself.

Thanks in advance if you can help.

The official M1A1 magazine catch is narrower in the area that was used to secure the drum in the 21/28 models, otherwise it is the same. As the earlier part was quite functional in all models and supplies were more than sufficient it would seem, I have noted only a relatively small percentage of the thinner catches.

No other parts would be affected.
