M1 Thompson Pistol Grip Question

Recommended Posts

I have two pistol grips for my Thompson and I am puzzled by the different contouring on the exterior finish. The top one is marked "S" on the top which I assume is for Savage Arms. The bottom one has no markings. Does anyone know why they have different contour?

Thanks in advance.

Bryan

Your unmarked grip may be a more recent West Hurley or Kahr manufactured one, or maybe the contractor code has been sanded off. All the WWII wood grips that I have seen have a contractor code stamped on them. The contour varied slightly from contractor to contractor and even the "S" Savage marked grips varied slightly depending on when they were made. The slight variances are normal on the WWII produced grips.
