Has anyone milled a M1 or M1A1 to a accept a 28 50rd Thompson drum.
No, I wouldn’t do it to an original gun. Good,Bad?

Better to modify the drum.

I believe in a past post PK said something about this modification. After milling the receiver there is not enough metal left to properly support the drum. This is all from a (faulty) memory, hopefuly PK will respond with a more detailed answer.

Call Merle Bitikofer (the drum doctor) - kkb@open.org - (503) 623-8294. He mods the drums to run on an M1 without messing up your valuable receiver.

I have a modified drum, it works fine.
The ambidextrous mag release is pretty cool too.
