I only heard this side of the conversation, which went something like this:
"I have the guy here who would like to see the Armalites in your vault."
"Yes, he looks reasonable."
"No, he's not a flake."
So, Sam gave me directions across the river to the Treasury building. I drove right over and was in hog heaven for several hours.

This is almost as nice as C. Reed Knight's collection of firearms.

BTW, I was told by an atf inspector that used to work there, most of these are confiscated firearms.

QUOTE (farfuture @ Mar 11 2006, 01:06 AM) |
Many years ago, I visited Sam Cummins in Alexandria (talking to him about Armalite AR-10s) and he showed me several, including a belt-fed 7.62mm AR-10 LMG. Anyway, we got to talking, and he mentioned the ATF vault, and so called them to see if I could visit them. I only heard this side of the conversation, which went something like this: "I have the guy here who would like to see the Armalites in your vault." "Yes, he looks reasonable." "No, he's not a flake." So, Sam gave me directions across the river to the Treasury building. I drove right over and was in hog heaven for several hours. |
i knew sam also...he offered me the belt -feed ar-10 back in 1977/78 for $25,000.00,to complete my set of ar-10's at the time...{since i was missing the belt-feed model!} i had both heavy barrel's model's also along with the quick change light barrel'...big buck's at the time for that one belt feed.>so i passed on it. then later sold them off to reed knight.
he own's them all now...good time's.........and the best pic i have{and i have alot of them}is me sitting looking like poncho via ha! ha! with the entire ar-10 collection in my basement.this post brought back some good ar-10 memorie's. ask him about serial #21 semi-auto only model.with threaded muzzle nut..it could take a can. one of my favorite's...
at least it's now in good hand's...along with my original bipod sniper model!
and i forgive him for making the remark to a dealer in indiana once about watch out when you buy a thompson from me..wink!! yes i do have ear's and eye's everyplace!!
good time's have fun with the stuff....take care, ron
