  1. Hi All I'd like to thank the Members of this Forum who have helped me, I have now fitted my oiler brush. I tried to find a tap to repare the damaged tread, with no luck, in the end I used a mimi dremel and recut the thread, "it took a while", and fitted the oiler brush from a Vickers, thanks to Doug. My wife Lynne and I visited the Normandy American Cemetery last September, we laid a Royal British Legion Wreath there to a Allen D Shell, he was Remembered at the Wall of Rememberance, the gentleman who escorted us placed the American Flag to the left of the Wreath and the French Flag to the right, after taken my photos he give us the the two Flags. Thank you all again for your kind help. Gerwyn
  2. Hi Guys Just a update, found the parts from a dealer in UK, for the Vickers MG, Oil Bottle and the Oiler Brush, don't know what the price of these are, he's asking £20.90 with postage £26.00, for the both, the only parts I need are the Screw Cap and Brush. The dealer emailed me the complete part list for the Vickers MG. Regards. Gerwyn Update. Found a dealer in your Country, that sold the complete Oiler Brush and Screw cap for 21.95 Dollars, which is about £14.00 to me, but the postage works out about £25.00. Regards. Gerwyn Added: Have not bought parts yet, still looking, you Guys on this Forum have been a great help to be, I only wish I could be of help to you.

  5. Hi Guys Got to ask, what's the odds on me ever getting a oiler brush for my Lewis Gun Butt. Regards. Gerwyn
  6. Hi Tess They have one that looks great, not saying its a genuine one, its got all the markings even the W D Broad Arrow, at £45.00. Have tried to copy and paste the photo with no luck. Regards. Gerwyn kev@militaryhistoryworkshop.co.uk
  7. Hi Doug Thank you. Recieved your email, great diagram of the Lewis Gun, I've got a idea now how it worked and the parts I need, been in touch with a Donald Bell, who's a great Guy, he could not help me with the parts, but told me to try Dave Sarco, found his web-site, I have not been in touch with him yet. Your video of you firing your Lewis Gun was great. I bought one of them repro brass butt disc's with screw, not fitted it yet, it will look better than the metal washer and odd wood screw. Regards. Gerwyn
  8. Hi Doug Thank you for your help, I have PM you with my email address. Regards. Gerwyn
  9. Hi Guys Little bit about myself, I’m 65 and from the Rhondda South Wales, my interests have been with WW1 and for collecting British items, the only weapon I have is a deactivated SMLE dated 1917. Years ago I was given a Lewis Gun Butt, which I placed on a shelf with my other WW1 items in my den, a couple of days ago I decided to have a closer look at it, it was that black, you could not see any of the wood grain, the sling swivel was rusted that bad it would not move, I started cleaning the wood with polish and a duster, layers of dirt came off and I could now see the grain, a chunk of it must been damaged and someone had fitted a new piece of wood into the butt, there was a metal washer and a woodscrew where the brass disc should be. I tried to loosen the sling swivel whilst still attached to the butt with no luck, in the end I had to take it off, I wired brushed it, boiled it sprayed WD-40 on it heated it up, it worked, I even found a War Department Arrow on it, this is were I could do with your help. The plug with the two holes in, I’ve tried to free and it won’t budge, I’ve sprayed WD-40 on it and tapped it with no luck I can’t use any heat as it would burn the wood, there other end a woodscrew fell out, leaving a hole in what I can only say looks like a thick washer, that is wedged in, which I also can’t budge, would you know of a tool to take out the plug end with the holes, this would help in tapping out the other end, I would also like to know what went in there and can you still buy genuine/repro part. Or do you think I should just clean it up as best I can and leave it, the odds on me ever having a complete one are a million to one, Regards. Gerwyn
