I currently have a post-sample 38A and have discussed with a few friends the possibility of using a transferable or pre-86 38/42-style receiver as the basis for a 38A build. My post-sample gun could potentially serve as the parts donor, with the receiver being the main replacement.

If you know of one for sale, or have one you would consider selling, please reach out.

Also, I hope this is the appropriate place to post this. If not, please let me know and I will take it down.

	Thanks!

Aging metal isn't hard, but to do it without staining the canvas is something else altogether. I've heard a lot of heresay about the snaps, but I've yet to find any pictures, real or otherwise, that show that type of 3 point snap. All of the reproductions I was able to find were the 4 point snaps. Contractors during wartime supply whatever is available and meets the spec. Never say never

If it was a repro, then one would assume there were tons more out there. If someone was going to go to all the effort to copy that design, then they'd need to sell a bunch to recoup their R&D. Originals were used and tossed when worn or worn out. And most likely never thought of as valuable at the time.

Often the canvas causes accelerated corrosion to the metal components. My vote is fantasy reproduction.

The rule is that later statutory enactments supersede earlier enactments, to the extent there is a conflict. In this case, the later enactment is FOPA '86 (which contains the Hughes Amendment, or 922(o)), and the earlier enactment is GCA '68 (which contains the amnesty provision).

Section 922(o) is structured as a flat prohibition, with a carve out (grandfather clause) for guns that were registered by May 19, 1986. There is no provision for an amnesty.

If you want to legalize pre-existing guns that were not registered by the magic date, you're going to have to repeal or amend section 922(o). Only Congress can do this. It can't be done by edict of the Attorney General.

Mp40 display build process

https://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/index.php?/topic/30121-mp40-display-build-process/&do=findComment&comment=269374

That’s really nice ! I have the good fortune of receiving an early WH receiver and trigger frame that was never registered. It was a test gun from IONA Industries in Hudson Valley New York. This was a test gun for the drum mags. I knew the owner Wolff for many years of working for George Numrich. Dan has made me a nice stock set for it. I am debating on whether to put an unmarked compensator or a threaded front sight. When I started on the project there were no 1921 actuator handles that would look right on the gun, so I started making them. Those and rocker pivots, pivot plates and safeties. On my '21 Thompson I have stored all of the original wood, and have installed low cost, rather beat up WWII era grip and stock wood, and a cheap aftermarket VFG. The aftermarket VFG did need a bit of fitting to mount it securely. I left my Thompson 1927A1 Deluxe model 1927A wood all original, but swapped out and stored the original mag catch with a modified mag catch for using WWII era stick mags.

Best of luck with whatever you pursue.

	MHO, YMMV, etc.

ETA: Two other changes I've made to the Thompson 1927A1 Deluxe model are I swapped out the compensator for a plain ring sight, and replaced the standard recoil spring and buffer subassembly with the "Easy Pull" parts.

Question - caring for the wood on a Colt Thompson

https://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/index.php?/topic/30119-question-caring-for-the-wood-on-a-colt-thompson/&do=findComment&comment=269364

A similar thought had crossed my mind with the brand Clenzoil who has always claimed it was safe for "Lock, stock, and barrel" but I leaned toward better safe than sorry and avoided it for fear of messing up wood that has survived for over 100 years.

Question - caring for the wood on a Colt Thompson

https://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/index.php?/topic/30119-question-caring-for-the-wood-on-a-colt-thompson/&do=findComment&comment=269363

I use balilstol... Your description on the tag is dead on. Reminds me of the small decal most states issue when updating your tags annually. It's a little smaller and appears to have aged to a buff color with black letters. Once I get the gun, I will post some pictures.

Given the information provided by TD on the serial number, I'm kinda at a loss to explain the tag on the stock? Maybe it was swapped out with another gun in the past.
