	I was finally able to join the club of Thompson owners! I attended the All Thompson Show and Shoot last year for the first time and learned a ton and met great people that were willing to share their knowledge.  Since then I have been on the search for the right gun to start my collection and it just got delivered yesterday.  I wanted a "shooter" so ultimately decided to go the GI direction as I was a bit overwhelmed with the prospect of modifying a colt to achieve this goal while protecting often irreplaceable parts.  That said, I also wanted a gun that would be just a little bit extra to fit a more collectible niche as well.
</p>

<p>
	I ultimately purchased a M1 Thompson in great condition with matching receiver and lower serial numbers which seems to be rare in guns actively used and refurbished in the military.  It went through an arsenal rebuild based on refinish and butt stock change with cross bolt and SAA stamp but maintained the matching upper and lower, M1 configuration Savage bolt, grip mound and paddle selector switches.  Maybe I will try to find replacement wood of the M1 style to make it correct at some point. Also need to start building up some spare parts to keep it shooting long term.
</p>

<p>
	Thanks again to everyone I have met who has shared their knowledge and advice along the way!
</p>

<p>
	Cant wait to shoot it at the show this year!

<p>There are over 50 numbered images of Combined Operations Insignia on the linked page with descriptions of each.</p><p> </p><p>
The badge of Combined Operations was an eagle over a Thompson submachine gun over an anchor, reflecting the three service arms; the Royal Air Force, the British Army and the Royal Navy,</p><p>
but the patch was worn by varous U.S. and International troops as well that took part in joint Combat operations.</p><p> </p><p>

Some examples involving U.S. Troops shown below:</p><p> </p><p>
#20 USA variant of the British badge. An article on the American Army Engineering Amphibian Units mentions that the shoulder patch worn by members was approved on June 17th 1942. This patch, embroidered in yellow on a light blue background, was worn at the top of the left arm only.</p><p> </p><p>
#37 #38 #39 show stages in the British attempts to produce badges for the Americans. When 37 was worn on the left arm the Eagle and Tommy gun faced in the wrong direction. The second (38) attempt reversed both. These variants were returned to the manufacturer and the wings were extended as in 39. Combined Operations Head Quarters received a report in 1943 that the combined Operations Badge embroidered in yellow on blue, believed to be that worn by the Americans, was on sale in any number of shops in London.</p><p><a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" href="https://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/uploads/monthly_10_2015/post-2598-0-07017100-1444671112.jpg" data-fileid="11175" data-fileext="jpg" rel=""><img data-fileid="11175" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt="#20.jpg" data-src="https://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/uploads/monthly_10_2015/post-2598-0-07017100-1444671112_thumb.jpg" src="https://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" width="216" data-ratio="115.74"></a></p><p><a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" href="https://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/uploads/monthly_10_2015/post-2598-0-63448800-1444671120.jpg" data-fileid="11176" data-fileext="jpg" rel=""><img data-fileid="11176" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt="#37.jpg" data-src="https://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/uploads/monthly_10_2015/post-2598-0-63448800-1444671120_thumb.jpg" src="https://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" width="232" data-ratio="107.76"></a></p><p><a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" href="https://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/uploads/monthly_10_2015/post-2598-0-70834100-1444671124.jpg" data-fileid="11177" data-fileext="jpg" rel=""><img data-fileid="11177" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt="#38.jpg" data-src="https://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/uploads/monthly_10_2015/post-2598-0-70834100-1444671124_thumb.jpg" src="https://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" width="250" data-ratio="94.00"></a></p><p><a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" href="https://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/uploads/monthly_10_2015/post-2598-0-99874100-1444671128.jpg" data-fileid="11178" data-fileext="jpg" rel=""><img data-fileid="11178" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt="#39.jpg" data-src="https://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/uploads/monthly_10_2015/post-2598-0-99874100-1444671128_thumb.jpg" src="https://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" width="250" data-ratio="93.60"></a></p>

	Gun locked up solid in the middle of an L drum. Bolt fully to the rear and will not move. Trigger moves but not full travel . Attempts to remove the lower, same result. It is locked in place and will not move. I have used light hammer pressure on both bolt and lower with no motion noted. My only thought is to remove the lower fire control pins to get it open. Anyone out there ever been in this spot?  Also, the gun is set up with 21 parts, actuator, buffer, spring and has run flawlessly for years.  TIA

	So my 1928's Lyman sight has been loose for a while.  Looking at the rivets, it was clear previous owners have had a go at trying to re-peen them (unsuccessfully).  It needs new rivets, so this weekend I made a riveting fixture and this evening I decided to drive out the old rivets and get to peening.  I bought a 1/8" aircraft rivet set that I turned it down to fit inside the sight ears.

	So I removed the sight (no turning back now) aaaand the Sarco replacement rivets I've had in my spare parts can for almost two years are WAY too short.  The ends of the rivets are just barely proud of the holes in the Lyman sight.<br />
	<br />
	Naturally I was doing all of this to get ready for the TCA shoot this weekend.  A sightless Thompson isn't an option so I considered trying to make my own rivets, but I ended up turning a taper on some 3mm socket head cap screws and temporarily bolting the sight in place.  It's not a permanent solution but it's not terrible.  I'm sure I can make my own rivets if I have to but I'd rather buy them.<br />
	<br />
	<strong>Here are my questions:</strong> 1) is this a known thing with the Sarco rivets?  2) Are the Indianapolis Ordnance rivets longer?  I just ordered three sets of them and from the photos they do appear to be longer.  Is there another rivet source I'm missing? <br />
	<br />

	Hey all,
</p>

<p>
	I am trying to determine if there would be a demand for new production slide assemblies for the 1928 Thompson.  I have a few builds going that will need them, they are a pain to find, so I was considering doing my own run of new ones.
</p>

<p>
	I have it all done in CAD, 3D Print prototype works perfect.  Just determining if there would be a demand for them at around $125 each.
</p>

<p>
	Any input welcome!
</p>

	Hey all,
</p>

<p>
	I am kicking off production on the new stock slide assembly for the 28 Thompson.   I will have the first batch ready to go early August and I am offering pre-order for people to be able to get their hands on them.  Depending on how quick they will go, will determine how many I do in this first run.
</p>

<p>
	<a href="https://www.malicoindustries.com/shop/thompson" rel="external nofollow">https://www.malicoindustries.com/shop/thompson</a>
</p>

<p>
	I am next going to start prototyping the butt plates for both the 28 and the M1 due to the amount of requests I got.  On those, I am not offering pre-order, but I have put them on my site for people to be able to sign up to be notified when they are in stock.  I expect to have those rolling out sometime this fall.  Click on them in the store, and it will give you an option to sign up.
</p>

<p>
	Below is a video going over the new slide assembly.  <br />
	<br />
	If you have questions, please reach out! Thanks!

	When I recently purchased a 1928a1 parts kit to swap some WH components to USGI, it came with the body of a 10 round X drum. While I'd likely never use it, I don't like having things that don't work. Just wondering if someone may know where to get the internal components, or is it better off seeing the recycle bin?
</p>

<p>
	I have this X drum and multiple WW2 L drums. Thought it would be neat to also get an original C drum so I'd have all the varieties.

	During the 1940s/ 1950's, Australian manufacturers of breakfast cereals used to include collectible cards in their cereal boxes.
</p>

<p>
	The small printed cards (or trade cards), covered popular subjects of the time, including military/WWII themes, amongst others.
</p>

<p>
	In 1944, the manufacturers of Crispies Vita Brits produced a series of 48 cards featuring 'WW2 Modern War Weapons'.
</p>

<p>
	Included in the 48 cards were two cards that featured the Thompson, card no's 41 and 48.
</p>

<p>
	One, I presume, features a Model of 1928, with a vertical fore grip and the other a Model of 1928A1, with it's horizontal foregrip.

	A few months back I was looking for a complete 1928 buttstock and placed a want to buy ad on another forum. A member reached out to me and said he had one for $100.00. Upon receiving it, the stock is absolutely beautiful. I purchased Tom Jr's book "Saving Colt NO 2487" and in there he mentions that when inspecting a Colt buttplate you look for a visible screw that holds the trapdoor on.
</p>

<p>
	The stock, buttplate and slide lock are all numbered 4277, the buttplate has the visible screw body (though hard to see in the photos) and very fine knurling on the latch button. Although I doubt I'm lucky enough to have received a Colt buttstock assembly, it does appear to be a very early one and I was wondering if someone knows the history of Thompson 4277?
</p>

<p>
	Later tonight I will take a better photo of the screw that is visible on the buttstock. These photos are the ones sent to me when I made the purchase.<a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" href="https://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2026_06/1442990877_Buttplatenumbering.jpg.d49774831d5c6c84f2f73b1261b84622.jpg" data-fileid="46082" data-fileext="jpg" rel=""><img class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="46082" data-ratio="221.89" width="338" alt="1386379405_Buttplatenumbering.thumb.jpg.e7a0883cf817915ab58e1c248528e1b8.jpg" data-src="https://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2026_06/1386379405_Buttplatenumbering.thumb.jpg.e7a0883cf817915ab58e1c248528e1b8.jpg" src="https://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></a>

	Finally had two chances to take my Full Auto 1928 WH to the range. I’ve had the following problems:
</p>

<p>
	-Light strikes that would leave an indent in the primer but not set off the round. Ammo wasn’t the issue as those same rounds I then put through a 1911 with no issues. <br />

</p>

<p>
	-Slam firing. Would at times continue to fire when I released the trigger. <br />

</p>

<p>
	Gun has all GI internals and a GI lower. I swapped out the recoil spring between visits which cut down on the light strikes but didn’t eliminate them. Ammo was PMC Bronze and Winchester, both 230 gr. <br />
	<br />
	Anyone else had these particular issues with a Full Auto WH?

	I also have questions for Dan Block. Can you make a list of malfunctions and scenarios of it non functioning and what the possible causes can be for the 22 conversion kit. Plus remedies. I had to hold the magazine this time. Other times not. Just asking for things to look for to keep it in tune.

I believe the gun is a 90% or better weapon (metal &amp; wood) based on other Colt Thompson pics I have seen on various web sites, but it is difficult to say. Begin new to the Colt world; I have a few questions for the board:</p><p> </p><p>
1. Knowing the serial number (#1578), is there anyone I can contact within ATF, Colt, experts, etc... that can provide me with the guns ownership history from birth to now me.</p><p> </p><p>
2. After researching before I purchased the weapon, I know the barrel is original (index marks match and correct number of fins), all internals are correct, anchor is on stamped on the stock, serial numbers match (lower &amp; upper), but I am not sure if the correct oiler came with the weapon. The oiler I have is the two-tone, and not the all nickel. Therefore, is the oiler I have correct for this weapon?</p><p> </p><p>
3. Assuming the gun is all correct with a 90-92% finish (wood &amp; metal), what is the fair market value of the weapon? </p><p> </p><p>
Thanks in advance for all responses,</p><p> </p><p>

	<span style="color:#990000;">I recently had the opportunity to write about Colt Thompson NO 2487. As you can tell from the cover page, it was a basket case when acquired by the current owner. I brought along a draft copy to the Thompson Collector's Association (TCA) Show &amp; Shoot (a fabulous event in case you missed it) and passed it around for comments. Everyone liked it and wanted a copy. I received permission to use some of the pictures while at the TCA S&amp;S and submitted it for publication when I returned home. The book was approved yesterday and is available on Amazon.com. I have priced the book at $9.99, just about the minimum price allowed due to printing costs. I do plan on raising the price to $14.99 in the near future but wanted to give everyone a chance to obtain it at this low price. It is quite a story!  </span>

	Hello!
</p>

<p>
	New guy here.  I was traveling in Scotland last week, and my wife just had to stop at a local charity shop.  After much eye rolling, we pulled in and off she went.  My eye caught this case, as I first saw the magazine sleeves, much like the 1911 pouch my grandfather brought back from the war.  So 4 ea oversized pouches, and a large canvas pouch, I immediately thought it was for a SMG, and most likely a Thompson since that was the only WWII SMG I knew of.  A quick google search confirmed my thoughts, but also said there were copies out there.  The price was right, so I bought it.
</p>

<p>
	When I got home, I discovered what appears to be an assembly tool on an inside pouch.  The canvas case itself appears unused, although the rust spots would indicate that it did hold magazines at one point.  I'm not sure what the smaller outside pocket would be for, although my first guess would be a 1911.
</p>

<p>
	My reasons for believing it original and not a repro, is it was in Scotland, where in the UK, firearms are frowned upon, and not sure if anyone outside of active duty military could posess a Thompson.  Most likely, a leftover from the war and sat in someones basement until they passed, and the relatives not knowing what it was, sent it off to the charity shop.
</p>

<p>
	Any input or thoughts would be appreciated!
