Complicated Transfer Question

I was approached via email on another board about a Handy Gun

Here's the context:

"I have access to an H&R Handy Gun. I contacted ATF NFA and found that it is on the registry. But I know that the original owner died in 1973, and it has passed through a couple hands without them realizing what steps were necessary to keep it in legal standing.

Any idea how I can get this legally transferred and stamped? Unlikely that the attorney for the original estate is still around. Find the most current heir, transfer it to them (tax free transfer) and then to me ($5 tax)? Or is there a way to skip the intermediate step?"

Any thoughts? Normally I suggested an attorney versed in NFA but this isn't a high dollar item. The cost to rectify the issue might outpace the value

I posted this on Sturmgewehr. I since found out about the rifling the .410 barrel. Now deciding what I can do one the 28 gauge. I am thinking the widow could check on the status of the guns with the barrels gone and if they do not show up as registered, no harm. If they do show up as registered, then the process starts to get them transferred. Thoughts?

1968 Amnestry Registration and C&R

I have an M1 marked amnesty registered M2 converted carbine. Since the conversion was completed over 50 years ago, could that now be considered a C&R? The amnesty paperwork lists the date of acquisition as 1950 and it's a late war Winchester with a 7M plus serial number .

I know I should ask the ATF, but thought someone hear may have some thoughts or experience.

Ive had my C&R license for just about 15 years. I now own a C&R 1928 thompson. I know I can buy things through interstate commerce on my license, but can I take my Thompson out of state without filing a 5320 being a licensee?

Here is offered a beautiful C&R eligible Ithaca Auto & Burglar, commonly referred to as the B model. It was built in 1926 on the Ithaca New Improved Double (NID) frame and shipped on March 21, 1927.

From the BATFE C&R guide list Ithaca, "Auto and Burglar Guns," mfd. by Ithaca Gun Company from 1921 to 1934, all original guns.

Note there was a BATFE NFA exemption approval for another Ithaca Auto & Burglar Model B, to remove that from the provisions of the NFA. This was for a specific serial number and not a blanket exemption. If one wanted to pursue such exemption on this firearm, it could allow such firearm if approved to transfer as a normal C&R, ie. no NFA approval. I can forward a PDF of those letters on that for reference but to be clear do NOT apply to this firearm as the shown approval is serial number specific.

I am looking for $4,250, plus any shipping and insurance.

For a comparable reference please review a recent auction of a similar B mode at RIA, in October 2019 that sold for $8,625. I believe attaching links to auctions are not permissible here so ask me for a link to the auction and I can share that.

This will transfer from a SOT FFL on an eForm only to your SOT FFL dealer very quickly. The NFA tax stamp from your SOT FFL to you is only $5 as an AOW.

Plenty of references available including the Sturmgewehr board owner.

A while ago I bought several unregistered Handy Guns

I received the barrels first, which I sent to Wayne in Oregon to be rifled

After those were shipped the receivers were sent to me

The .410's have been rifled making them legal once again

Wayne doesn't the tooling to rifle a 28 gauge

Any leads ?

For now the receiver and the barrel are kept at two different locations

so I don't run afoul of the ATF

Just in case anyone has Auto Burglers # 453904 ,453911,453930.448235. They were formerly owned by the North Bergen NJ PD. In summer 1986 I came back from vacation .And our "firearms guy " tells me , Oh we got new guns.

They traded 1 thompson ,6 M1 carbines including 4 winchester ,4 vintage colt 1911s one W prefix in455 webley , a few pre war Win pump shotguns. A walther PP ,a P38 . The 4 Auto Burglers and a few other guns. To Navy Arms . They got in return 4 post may Ruger AC 556s ,a Ruger V77 "sniper rifle " and a couple mossbergs .. Who got the better deal ..LOL

OH I forgot about the 2 stens.

BATFE taking Auto Burglar off NFA requirement?

I thought I saw where someone had gotten BATFE exemption letter by serial number to remove the Auto-burglar from the NFA register.

Can anyone confirm this and provide how it was accomplished?

Greetings all. I'm new to the forum, and appreciate the opportunity to interact with like minded people. I'm getting older, and considering letting some old pieces move on to a new owner. I have two auto burglars (one model A and one model B are in this category). Both function as designed, have 85% plus original bluing, and with no cracks in the wood grips or forearms. There was a discussion here a while ago about the factory Remington model 17 with a pistol grip and 15 barrel. Some of the examples had GRPD crudely stamped on them. Collectors Firearms in Houston has one advertised. I cant believe it will bring $2950.
