Hey all, we have been selling 1919 links for a while now. Hope everyone has liked the ones they purchased! Recently could not find the stock catch assembly for our post 1928 Thompson. So we have started doing those as well. We also thought there might be a market for barrels with the .578X28 thread pitch that is industry standard for .45 ACP suppressors. Check out the products on our website at the link below. Feel free to message here or email us with any questions!

The quick answer is "No."

Laws regarding fraud could apply to reproduction items, but I've never heard of a situation where a perpetrator of a firearm reproduction item fraud was brought to justice. If anyone knows of such an instance, please post the details here. The best way to combat fraud involving firearm reproduction items is overall knowledge to avoid fraud in the first place, and also peer pressure, such as can be applied through collector groups, gun shows, etc.

When I first started looking into reproduction firearm items, I wondered about any applicable laws, and found none. What I did find is an interesting sidenote...Most political campaign collectibles, such as campaign buttons, posters, stickers, and certain coins, etc., that are related to political campaigns are subject to the Hobby Protection Act of 1973. This act came about because of concern about this collecting genre, and it was successfully passed through Congress, and signed by President Nixon. I've mentioned this to others in the past, and hardly anyone has heard of it before. Basically, it requires reproduction political campaign items to be clearly labeled as "REPRODUCTION." This is partly why I advocate the clear labeling of reproduction firearm items with a manufacturer ID and date.

Anyway, I thought folks who may see this new forum might be interested in hearing about the only law I'm aware of that specifically addresses reproduction collector items.

Does anyone know of any state or local ordinances that may apply to reproduction collector items, and whether they apply to firearm items, or not?

David Albert

dalbert@sturmgewehr.com

WTB Drum Pouch

At the link below, you can see the item, and my initial challenge of assertions that it might be a fake, until I was able to review records, and became privy to some additional information that convinced me it was indeed a fake. I know that German items, M1 Carbines and Garands have experienced significant fakery, and I mentioned those genres in my 2010 lecture on repro Thompson items, but I didn't realize that the M1911 series also had such a high degree of fakery. I guess it makes sense, especially recently.

Anyway, here is the link:

http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/248431-need-help-with-ithaca-1911a1-serial-number-anomaly/

What I'd like to do here, is ask if anyone has experience with other M1911 fakes, and could post evidence or commentary in this forum.

Thanks!

David Albert

dalbert@sturmgewehr.com

Reproduction "Reising Instruction Sheet For Cleaning"

Please be aware that a previously unknown "Reising Instruction Sheet For Cleaning" that recently sold along with a Fed Labs Reising SMG case on eBay, has now been reproduced without any markings to indicate it is a reproduction. The only apparent difference is that it is a very clean copy, printed on heavy paper, while the original is a standard paper thickness.

Here is the auction number to the current "Buy It Now" auction on eBay. (Paste it into the search field on eBay)

371917790262

Here is a photo of the original:

I would certainly prefer that reproduction items like this are printed with a name and date of reproduction in plain view, but I can't force this to be the case. The Reising collecting field has few reproductions. The best I can do is to bring awareness to any reproductions that we find. I would invite the seller, who I believe is a member of this board, to withdraw the current examples, destroy them, and reprint them with appropriate markings. That is what I would like to see happen. Again, I cannot force it to happen, and I don't begrudge the profit motive in reproducing these. I just think it should be marked for future generations who may believe it to be original, and will not have the auction text to refer to, which indicates a reproduction item.

Thanks,

David Albert

dalbert@sturmgewehr.com

My 2010 lecture on the subject is available on the Thompson board, and I will also add it to this forum. The lecture presentation also contains examples of other firearm genre reproduction items, and mentions the effect that fake items can have on the overall trust factor, and sustainability of different firearm collecting groups.

I recently became aware of the extent that reproduction firearms have infiltrated M1911/M1911A1 pistol collecting circles, and i have a significant concern. I would like to use this website to provide a place where this subject can be further explored.

I will say that the CMP Forum recently added a "Real or Repro" sub-forum, and some may think we don't need more than one place to discuss this subject. The difference here is that I like to document things, distribute them, and otherwise try to preserve and consolidate data for the future on this subject, so that it can be easily referenced. We have many experts on these boards that I believe can make the new forum worthwhile, and the demeanor on this board is also quite different than at CMP.

Please let me know your thoughts, and feel free to post your items here that you may have questions about, or for which you want to raise awareness. Please keep in mind that I don't always take things at face value, and may challenge some assertions until I'm convinced any item has been fully vetted as reproduction. A lot of repro items are obvious, and some are much more subtle and sinister...

Thanks!

David Albert

dalbert@sturmgewehr.com

Reproduction Thompson Item Lecture from TATA 2010 Show

Here is a link to where you can download the lecture that I presented at the 2010 meeting of The American Thompson Association Show and Shoot, sponsored by the Tracie Hill Family.
