Since Magazine Guide Pins are pretty hard to come by I'm going to have to try making some. I need some dimensions, though.

I need big end, small end, length, and across the flat at the big end. I can back figure everything else.

	Thanks!

If you are unfamiliar, these magwells allow owners to swap out their original magwell and in place use this magwell to be able to run newly manufactured ProMag .45 Uzi magazines. This solves one of the greatest issues with the Reising - magazine availability.

These magwells are designed to work on the entire .45 Reising family of models (50/55/60).

The generation 2 magwell builds on the feedback that I received from the original generation 1’s. Some of the changes include; use of a harder base steel, changes to the machining processes, improved slight geometry changes, and finished in a sleek black nitrided finish to improve surface hardness and corrosion resistance.

Just like the gen 1’s, these magwells start from a solid block of steel which is precision CNC machined down to the final product. Proudly designed, machined, and finished right here in the U.S.A..

From the beginning, I intended to design a magwell that had numerous advantages over the original. In the end I ended designing something that I believe improves on virtually every aspect over the originals. Besides tackling the glaring issue of original magazine availability, I wanted to create something more durable, something that had better small parts availability if a part were to break or wear out, a better finish and harder and thicker steel so users could get many more years of use from their Reisings. This magwell accomplished all of those things.

I am so proud to be able to offer this latest magwell, which builds on years of research and development at this point.

A FEW OTHER BENEFITS OF RUNNING MY MAGWELLS:

You can obviously retire your original magazines and magwell parts. They’ve lived a long service life, most magazines were produced in the 1940’s up until the mid 1950’s. That makes the “youngest” magazine approximately 75 years old. That is a very long life out of something considered relatively disposable. The ProMag .45 magazines are newly manufactured, cost a fraction of the cost of an original magazine (ie. $35 vs $250), and are easy to locate with a quick internet search. Additionally the ProMags carry a lifetime warranty on every magazine, any issues with them in the future just give them a call and they should take care of you. My magwells use standard military-issue Uzi parts (besides the taper pins that hold it to the receiver). These parts are significantly easier to find compared to original Reising parts - and appear to be more rigid and durable if you ever needed to replace or stock up on spare parts. My magwell also changes the location of the magazine release. On the original it is located on the rear of the magwell whereas mine moves the release to the left hand side. So you are able to press the magazine release button with your left thumb and pull down on the magazine with your left hand to have a much quicker and easier magazine change. On some of the originals you had to pull back on the magazine release lever and then pull the magazine down - basically a two-handed operation. Lastly magwell is about 2.5x the weight of the original (~12oz vs ~4.7oz), this increased weight adds a nice balance to the center of the firearm and also aids in control and recoil mitigation.

	OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:

From the beginning when I was gathering dimensional information from other Reising owners it became apparent that there is a wide range in dimensions/tolerances between Reisings. I took this into account and designed a tolerance range into my magwells that should be compatible with as many Reisings as possible to make my magwell as much of a “drop-in” improvement as possible. With that, I still want to note that there may be some minor fitting required - primarily the width of the magwell cutout in the stock. I have no received any mentions that the magwells themselves had to be modified at all. You can measure your magwell cutout in your stock, the width should be about 1.20” for the stripped magwell to be able to be slid in and out of the stock. I have included a how to guide at the bottom of this if you think you would need to do this. When installing the magwell please note that it should be stripped (no magazine button assembly installed) until it is in the stock - otherwise it will not fit through the cutout. Before altering your stock, I recommend installed the new magwell to your action and cycling a few snap caps (DON’T USE LIVE AMMUNITION for safety reasons) through it to verify that it is compatible with your particular gun.

Also, some users have noted that in some cases the magazine lips on the Promag magazine may need to be slightly adjusted at about the last 1/8” so the round strips off and feeds into the chamber. This takes about a minute with a pair of pliers. See guide at the bottom for how to complete this. I did not have to do this in my particular Reising.

If you wipe down your magwells with a clean patch you may notice a slight orange-ish color - this is normal. I reached out to the facility that did the nitriding and they confirmed that this is from leftover particles from the nitriding process. It is nothing to worry about.

Expect light machining marks on the magwells, it is all cosmetic. See photo at bottom.

The area at the top of the magwell that pins to the bottom of the action bar is designed to be thicker than the original. With this I also redesigned the taper pins that pin the magwell to the action. I used a tough 300 series stainless that will provide better wear and rust resistance over the factory originals. There is a small chance that you may need to fit the taper pins to your particular gun if they are too tight to install/remove, although I did not have to do this in mine and other have reported the same.

Lastly, please make sure that you do not try to insert a magazine into the magwell as soon as you remove the magwell from the packaging. The spring and magazine release button are not installed in the correct position so there is no tension when you remove them. If you try to insert a magazine you WILL BEND YOUR RELEASE BUTTON SPRING.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me and I will be happy to assist. If you think you need to modify something or are unsure of how something should be installed, please contact me before you do any modifications. Once you begin fitting/modifying your magwell, it is yours, I can NOT accept it as a return if you decide you don’t like it or no longer want it.

I’ve tested numerous magazines and can report that they have all functioned 100% flawlessly. Other Reising owners have reported similar stories back to me (once everything was tuned to their specific gun). In some cases my magwell will even help make your gun run more reliably over the original.

Finally, I’d like to take a second to thank all of the Reising owners who took the time to help me gather information in the early stages and support the final product. Your support directly allows these innovations to continue!!! THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING ME AND MY IDEAS. I have more exciting things that I am working on to roll out in the future. ***PAT. PENDING***

	Troubleshooting

Here are some of the common issues I've seen and the solutions for them. I will try to keep this updated as I gather feedback from users.

Magazine is hard to load to full capacity. Solution: Load the magazine to full capacity (or as many as you can) and leave it loaded for a few days to compress the spring. I've noticed that the springs get considerably easier to load after a few range trips. The first time I could get maybe 20 rounds in, the next time I was able to get the full 22 loaded. Also isn't a bad idea to disassemble the magazines and clean out the factory grease from the inside - there's usually quite a bit.

Bolt isn't stripping the top round from the magazine (typically the most common issue - ProMag changed the feedlip dimensions of their current mags). Solution: So it was brought to my attention that the most recent batch of ProMag Uzi magazines had slightly different dimensions in the feedlips than the older ProMag magazines. Luckily, it is a very quick and easy fix. Please see posts # 6 & 7 on the link below from a customer over on UziTalk. Basically the feedlips on the newer magazines aren't as wide as the older ones, so you will need to slightly bend the front portion outwards so they are about .455" wide from lip to lip for proper feeding. Once he made the adjustment they ran perfectly! After measuring the magazines that I used in my initial R&D I discovered that I was running the older magazines, and thus why I didn't experience any malfunctions from the magazines. Link on how to do this https://imgur.com/a/rnlpfnr Thanks Garrett on UziTalk for providing this guide.

Magazine release button is hard to press in to remove the magazine. Solution: Grab the empty magazine with your left hand and push up, while pushing up press the magazine release button and pull down. This takes the pressure off of the magazine release button and makes for an easy removal.

I encourage anyone who purchases a magwell to not hesitate to contact me if they experience any issues and to share their feedback with me. I am more than happy to assist and get you up and running!

During my research for my Reising book, years ago I found a lot of Marine Corps documents at the National Archives in College Park, MD. I though I would post a few here to stimulate this thread. Many explain Marine requests that resulted in the Reising M50 2nd Model, often (incorrectly) referred to as the "Military Model". There was no official designation by H&R or the Marine Corps other than the Model 50 or 55. Unfortunately, There isn't enough room for all of the documents.

Amazon is currently selling the book for 20% off the list price of $59.99, so they are $47.96 at this moment. You will not be able to get one any cheaper from me, and I don't yet have any author copies in hand. I expect to have some copies available around December 4th, and will make some signed copies available when I receive them. If you want the book now, buy it on Amazon!

For the first time since my early start of the book, I read it all the way through over the weekend. It affirmed to me just how much information, and especially how much new information is included. This book will not win any artistic awards, and it's not a marvel of digital layout. It's full of collector and historical information, and hundreds of photos. It contains over 46,600 written words, plus thousands more included in letters, manuals, and vintage advertising content. It is a 350 page paperback book, in 6" x 9" format, printed in color.

So, why would this new book on Eugene Reising be interesting to me? There are many reasons.

It covers Eugene Reising's career from start to finish, with information gained from research and family resources, including some very surprising twists and turns

The history of Harrington and Richardson Arms Co. (H&R) is covered more than in any other previously published work, including a very detailed account of the H&R bankruptcy, and subsequent activity since the original company folded in 1986

Learn about Eugene Reising's involvement with the design and adoption of the iconic M1911 pistol, while working with legendary gun designer John Browning, and stumping for the pistol with the likes of John T. Thompson

If you like marksmanship, you will be impressed with Mr. Reising's proficiency, how it relates to the M1911, and how it influenced his designs

Included in the book, printed in their entirety are two manuals for the MC-58 Rifle from my collection that have been virtually unobtainable - They are USMC TM-ORD-2000, and USMC SL-4-01423A - This includes a technical manual, and a stock list - This content is worth the price of the book by itself

The Reising .22 Automatic Pistol is covered in great detail, which is a subject that has had very little coverage previously

New information on the Reising Model 50 Submachine Gun, including a rebuttal to critics by Eugene Reising himself

Reising .22 automatic rifles are covered in 4 chapters, including the Models 65, 165, 150, 151, and MC-58 - Mr. Reising's .22 rifles are the main focus of the book

If you have any interest in Reising manuals, catalogs, and other paper items, they are covered extensively, as well as various accessories for the Reising pistol, submachine guns, and .22 rifles

In addition to the two MC-58 manuals that are reprinted within, several instruction sheets for various Reising firearms are included

You can explore many other firearms that Eugene Reising designed over the years, including a belt fed machine gun that competed with the Browning M1917 during WWI, some other submachine guns, tubular receiver M14's, the M14 Simulator, T30's, the "Guerrilla Rifle," and various other prototypes and personal firearms

The book includes photos of many family heirlooms handed down by Eugene Reising and many previously unpublished photos

It contains serial number data for over 460 examples of Reising .22 rifles collected over the last 8 years

If you are a firearm collector, you will find interest in this book. It may even inspire you to seek more information that can expand our knowledge of the subject. I hope you will enjoy it, and if you're looking for an easy Christmas or Hanukkah present for which you can just send your significant other an Amazon link, this is a book for you.

See below link. Price is less than I’ve seen lately, so not sure if original. Thanks

Good evening gents, I’ve had my Reising for three years now, I’ve read Frank’s book cover to cover, I love the gun’s history (even if I wouldn’t trust my life to it).

But for the last week I’ve been stumped. Specifically having not replaced the springs in my gun since I’ve owned it, I ordered a wolf spring set and replaced out a number of them.

However for the life of me, I am struggling to figure out what’s wrong when reinstalling the trigger assembly. It just sits there with no movement, frozen in place. Has anyone had that issue before? Am I missing something stupidly simple?

Any recommendations/guidance would be greatly appreciated!

	With regards-Mat

This dude had a couple of 20 rnd mags on his table and they were brand spanking new! I asked how much he replied and said

Hundred dollars and I said sold and handed him a bill and I was on my way.

I have posted this on several forums for maximum exposure.

The most common failure on Model 50-55 Reising submachine guns is broken firing pins.

There are a lot of smart and skilled individuals in the class III community. The community needs one of these individuals to design and manufacture a Reising SMG firing pin that will last for at least a few thousand rounds.

Original steel firing pins are impossible to find; the only new manufacture pins available are those made of titanium. I cannot get one to last more than 500 rounds before the tip breaks off.

There have been some semi-successful advancements, like the inertia modification described in the link below. In my experience, the inertia modification works best with original steel firing pins, the titanium pins not so much.

The inertia firing pin thread (unfortunately, the photos are gone)

There is another individual on machinegunboards.com who was doing some experimenting I have pasted a link to his thread. On his last post, he had not yet been successful.

I just got back from the post office to pick up the mags. Be aware the package is SIGNATURE REQUIRED pick up, so that might be difficult for some buyers, it is for me because I'm not home when the post man delivers and I live alone except for my kitty.

They were packaged nicely with a info sheet stating that extensive testing has taken place and have developed a mag that works. The mags worked perfect on their test guns. Also stated that there are different tolerances with this type of gun, meaning some guns may not run as good as expected and it also mentioned that the mags may require a break in period.

The sheet also states if there is any issue call them first and do not make any adjustments.

Only use fresh 45 ball ammo 230gn. Warning that the spring in the mag is high pressure inside.

I bought 2 mags only because I already have several 30s that work and one or 2 that are a problem.

The finish is of course black that looks like a baked on paint but not power coated, I noticed one mag had a spot on the corner that the paint was chipped or peeled off.

To load the first round the follower was difficult to push down to get the bullet in the mag,,, it felt like there was a metal burr or something. I think that will work out with the break in process, my plastic loader would not depress the follower so I just did the first round by hand and the rest loaded just fine, I might add the spring is stout and it feels better than the springs in the old mags we use.

Thanks to my back yard, I just came in from testing. I loaded 5 rounds in each mag and the mags worked perfect !! First round I loaded in the chamber went in like silk and all 5 rounds ran perfect. The next mag was just the same.

I could not be more happy with the mags, my gun felt like a new gun and now I know how crappy the old mags most of us use are.

There are no roll marks on the mags showing who made them. The only one difference are the sight holes on the side. Keystone have 6 holes and the last one is a SQUARE hole.

The reason I bring this up is I'm sure in time there will be gold diggers trying to say these are the rare brand NEW expensive christie mags for big bucks. christie mags have 7 holes and they are all round holes. These Mags will go like hot cakes at a Hooters bar.
