  1. Should not be a problem at all if your parts are made to GI specs. Well , WHs arn't GI spec , but still , if it's GI style... The pin should be of a straight OD at the rear except where the buffer sets , that is a reduced OD , a smidge smaller than where the spring rides. Ie. , it's grooved to allow the buffer to slip in. The buffer is a shock absorbing plate sandwitched between two metal plates with the whole thing riveted together. It is in a squarish hourseshoe shape and just drops over , around , and into the pin / groove. Simple drop in / lift out. If not , something's wrong. Can you spin the pin ? Thinking a burr or crud have " welded " ( welt ? ) the two together. Can you see the that the buffer has the opening underneath or feel it with a probe / punch/screwdriver to be sure it has not been substituted with a full circular one of some type.
