  1. In 1996 I bought the first part of my collection, a 'Model of 1928' Thompson, which came with an oil bottle, which took me some time to discover in the butt stock and a worse for wear Patent Date XX magazine. I then added a 30 rnd magazine and bought a Numrich ‘X’ drum magazine, direct from the USA, thinking that would complete my Thompson collection. 21 years later my collection is still growing, partly due to my discovery of MGB online. I long ago traded the ‘X’ drum for an original WW2 ‘L’ drum and now I have five WW2 ‘L’ drums and two Colt era WPS ‘L’ drums in my collection. The jewel in the crown though, has to be the Colt era ‘C’ drum I came across only a month or so ago, serial number ‘157’, so probably part of a shipment to the Irish Republicans in 1921. That drum compliments the 3-digit serial number, Irish ‘Model of 1921’ in my collection, perhaps 100 years ago they were part of the same shipment to Europe. But the purpose of this post, is my box magazine collection, which has also grown, many additions, especially the Colt era magazines, thanks to fellow enthusiasts on this board. So here we go, to start with the Colt era magazines. An early Colt Blank XX, a XVIII shot cartridge and a Colt era Patent date XX magazine. I also have a Birmingham Small Arms, Model 1929 TSMG 7.63mm Mauser magazine, but that would not fit in with the Colt era magazines. Next with my Model of 1928, we have an incorrect MSCO marked Patent Date XX and a correct Patent Date XX magazines, next to two Crosby Co XX magazines, one painted green during service. The incorrect Patent date magazine has also been soldered in service. Next, we have the 1928A1 with two versions of the AOC, Sparks-Withington first version, which was blank, and the latter marked Sparks-Withington, WPS and Seymour Products XX mags. Both the marked Sparks-Withington and WPS magazines shown, have been soldered too. And finally, my 30 round versions, Crosby, SWCO, Seymour Products and an AOC marked, with external USCO stamp on the backstrap, magazines. So, I am still looking for the 1st version USCO AOC marked 30 round, without the ‘U’ on the backstrap and an example of the 30 round ‘V’ marked magazines.

  2. Really? Of all the smg's with folding stocks (including the MP38u40) the K has the most robust folding stock anywhere. It is as tight and strong as a wood stock by any measure.

  3. I should have phrased that better, you did say that these didn't match what is known about British web gear. APEX also has one type of canvas Madsen M50 magazine pouches that look like they were made by a British contractor based on the colour and style. I also agree that the pouches you picture are a good choice for use with many SMG's. I like that they will fit on any belt unlike the British pattern 37 pouches that are part of a "system" The FBP/948 pouches I scrounged at APEX were absolutely filthy, but washed up well with simple green, water and a stiff brush. I had to replace several of the button snaps for the flap as the brass fasteners had been crushed a bit. It is why I found these pouches, they were culled long ago and left in a pallet of assorted material. I didn't try any Thompson magazines in them because APEX has a good supply of original USGI 20 round magazine pouches and a bunch of the French issue pouches that fit the 30 rounders and have a shoulder strap.
