I just sold one a few months ago for 21k. Buy a few books (including TD's), go to the show, and in a weekend you could gain 10K+ in knowledge value easily.

I don't get it either, but it's a common myth? As to cost, in looking at it, it would be cheaper than a FAL to produce but that all depends on your scale, expertise and equipment. The only things that favor the M16 are the ammo load weight, cost, and reduced recoil for girls/girlymen. All of those are very significant, however government choices are made first, then justified by reports generated by experts and altered testing after the decision is made. Guns are generally mission specific, but you can't have a regular army trained in multiple firearms, that's just not a thing.

WTB a 40 round Suomi Drum
johnsonlmg41 replied to 19Steve67's topic in Swedish and Finnish Submachine Guns, S&W 76 and MK760
To clarify, any firearm or defense item over $100 requires a permit, 30 rounds has nothing to do with it. Repair parts fall under the same rules, regardless of how many pieces you split the mag into. Most countries also have export rules including here, and ours are about the worst in the world. A screw for a scope requires an export permit. I have a couple springs coming in and they require permits from both countries to make it happen. Or as noted, you take your chances and hope you don't end up on yet another list/database. -

Second Griswold TSMG “jump case”
johnsonlmg41 replied to Got Uzi's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
There are griswold cases that are specifically contoured for specific guns and sometimes marked as such on the exterior. I did not see that on these, but since there are no shots of the interior the implication is that there is/was something I can't see that made them Thompson specific. I guess not? Saw a couple of those at the show in Feb. , but the sellers were not educated enough to list them as Thompson cases? -

Registered and Transferable Machine Gun Grip?
johnsonlmg41 replied to tricky9914's topic in Class III Forum
I'm confused that this is confusing? The grip and things like will remain transferable as long as there are transferables. There are M16 sears that are movable. Difficult things don't break top dollar for a reason, it's not easy, thus the grip I don't think will sell at the price since you can easily buy a "normal" AK for less. Of course listing it on GB with a dream is free and if you can find a dreamer to buy it, it's lottery money. Had the dream come true, you'd see a complete running gun listed for 70K+. Hard to put a number on a dream? -
Registered and Transferable Machine Gun Grip?
johnsonlmg41 replied to tricky9914's topic in Class III Forum
It can be done. Not a real easy way for anyone, but these types of things do exist and are viable. The devil is in the details, which makes this fairly overpriced IMO since it takes some skills and challenges to make it into a running gun. This is FAR from that. I'd buy it if the price was right, but my guess is someone will buy it, then ask around how to make it work, then it will go up for sale again. Stuff like this does pose a challenge to stay on the right side of the line. -
yes two copies of the form to atf and one additional copy to the CLEO in your area. Two finger print cards. All the info is here including the instructions for all types of form 5 applications. https://www.atf.gov/firearms/docs/form/form-5-application-tax-exempt-transfer-and-registration-firearm-atf-form-53205 Click on download the form and you can fill it out and print it. Your situation is the easiest to do. If it's an estate or entity the paperwork becomes much more complicated as noted in the instructions.

2 copies of everything, other than that you should be good to go. They are not that uncommon, and process faster than a form 4 and no one knows why. Generally 2 months or less right now. HTH

BATFE status checks and current approval times
johnsonlmg41 replied to StrangeRanger's topic in Class III Forum
I actually do know more than they do since I've had transfers in continuously for 25+ years, and several in currently. There is NO ONE at NFA branch with anywhere near the expertise on transfers and long term data that I have. Unfortunately, that's a fact. I have been quoted numbers in the past and when I told one examiner to look at the date on my form in question, they were speechless. Musk is not acting on anything, he's a government employee acting in an advisory capacity advising department heads, congress, etc. as to areas to cut and why and hopefully congress cuts these budgets. To be entirely clear there has been NO budget cut at ATF so far, so that is a complete fabrication by whomever told you that up to and including the CR that was passed today cut ZERO spending..... unfortunately. Pretty sure the ladies on "the view" misinformed you as to who is doing what and where the money is going? -
BATFE status checks and current approval times
johnsonlmg41 replied to StrangeRanger's topic in Class III Forum
That is GREAT to hear!! I checked the status for you a minute ago....if it's not in the sellers eforms or mailbox it hasn't been approved yet. The times you were told are completely inaccurate and worthless. I am happy to hear the MUSKETEERS are working on it. A guy who can whip up spacecraft in a couple weeks to rescue people government NASA abandoned for most of a year and could not retrieve, should have no trouble updating the computer system at atf to bring times back down below 60 days like they were in the 1930's. Hopefully when my next transfer comes through it's signed Big Balls instead of the unauthorized authorized official. -
Flying into Baltimore
johnsonlmg41 replied to ppgcowboy's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
I just put them back in my pocket after the x-ray machine. Course those were HK sears on my keychain😉 I shipped the hosts to myself. If I were to do a gun, I'd check it, or next day air it depending on how bad you want to shoot and what you want to spend? It's not as bad of a process as you'd think? As for flights....well that's a gamble every time depending on where you're going and when? I've had one bag get delayed/ not forwarded to a connector in over 40 years....maybe I'm just lucky? I drive if it's less than 10 hours since that's how long it takes for a 2 hour flight by the time you get there, park, fly, get a rent car, etc. -
Well, atf has been illegally collecting taxes for decades now and messing the whole thing up to boot. Let's see, back in the day when treasury handled everything transfers were 60-80 days tops doing everything manually. As to who will do nics....the same private company/companies that do it now or just do away with it completely is the real answer since waiting days for "approval" in many cases is an infringement. Shockingly that time has gone up as well as they automate? Then there's the racist and retarded questionnaire sheet? Someone needs to be fired for that, or the whole group. Can't a nics check just be your name, the dealer verifies your real ID and if you don't check out as a felon you just leave with your stuff? Why are we answering questions as to whether or not you've renounced your citizenship? That's moronic as are the other questions. Pretty sure a lot of people couldn't come up with 5 things they did last week including answering the email, leaving just 4 things? Oh, wait some assclown left an automated voicemail for me last week about switches, so that leaves just 3 more things. Course that could have been A1? Or big balls pranking me? The entire agency is redundant and we could go back to FBI and treasury handling all of it they way they used to, now that 5000 FBI agents are done scouring facebook for J6 trespassers and attending school board meetings looking for terrorist soccer moms? What government agency is coming to wipe your nose and feed some of you guys?
-
No, actually they were sent out of the country and returned post 1968, essentially as foreign owned guns. Like a lot of things including ships, planes, etc. once it leaves it's not so easy to bring back. And no atf doesn't get any money for transfer taxes, it goes into the general fund. Often there is a tax on a pre-may transfer, but it doesn't really matter.

The russian AK is still the top dog, but that is a nice gun! ....depends how the week goes......

Beretta PM12S sells for $94,000 at Rock Island Auction!
johnsonlmg41 replied to maxfaxdude's topic in Italian Submachine Guns
Yes, RIA were sort of taken aback by it, having little knowledge of the MG market. +Sales tax and shipping! Might be a lightning strike or you were a true, early genius? LOL Time will tell as a few more hit the block in the future. -
Sarco offering 100 round reproductions
johnsonlmg41 replied to RogerD's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
IIRC sarco has like a 5 day return policy? You better test quickly and find out or you'll be owning it. -
Ahh, you guys are killing me! When in the hood I check the shoes....if you're panhandling with $100+ shoes on, I laugh at you. It's how I got out of getting fully robbed in Jamaica...by pointing out the crook had better clothes than me and I didn't have "his kind of money" LOL. You guys made me check my junk drawer and lo and behold.....an 80's gem I had not gotten rid of during the heydays of Miami Vice. Never got any chicks with it though when we went clubbin. Does this rolex count? I'm into the MACS for less than 1K each....so I sort of stole'em?

British WW2 LCE for Thompson magazines
johnsonlmg41 replied to rpbcps's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
Years ago I saw literally over a ton of FBP's all NIB....ready to be cut up. They are probably still sitting there? Lots of spare mags, but no pouches? Maybe they forgot to order them and they all stayed in Portugal? LOL Quality pouch though!
