  1. Will firing tracers thru my 28AC damage the Cutts Compensator? Thanks Roger
  2. Does anyone here reload for their Thompson using Winchester Super Field powder behind a 230 grain FMJ RN bullet and if so how many grains of powder do you use? Thanks Roger
  3. I want to convert my Ramo 1919A4 to fire 30-06. The gun is currently setup in .308 and will fire .308 in links or cloth belts without a problem. I found a web page that had instructions regarding .308 to 30-06 conversions. The web site stated that I would only have to remove the .308 cartridge spacer and replace the barrel and muzzle booster with a 30-06 barrel and booster. I believe this web site dealt with semi auto only 1919's. Does this information also apply to full auto 1919's? Thanks Roger
  4. Thank you very much. At least im still younger than my Thompsons Bridgeport and Colt. Thanks again Roger
  5. Kyle, I have a Pelican 1750 and I put both of my 28's in it with no problems and both guns have Cutts compensators on them. I personally would prefer to have one case instead of two. Roger
  6. Could not see the pictures of your Thompson. I kept getting the this message after clicking on the links; You have exceeded your bandwidth to this month please upgrade. Would love to see the pictures of your Savage Thompson. Roger
  7. Doug, My friend's Thompson is a NAC gun but Colt originally manufactured the upper and lower receiver. I do not know the serial number of the gun. I think magazine catch on my Bridgeport gun is a West Hurley part. The machining on the catch is very course. Thanks Roger
  8. Are the GI 28 magazine catches different from the Colt magazine catches? The reason I am asking this is I have some GI 30 round stick mags that work great in my Bridgeport 28 but don't work well in my Colt 28 Navy. These GI stick mags were also having problems in my friend's NAC/Colt 21. Thanks Roger
  9. What is the diameter of the buffer pilot hole in back of a military 28 Thompson receiver? This the hole that the rear of the recoil buffer pilot goes into. Thanks Roger
  10. Sgt, Congratulations on your new baby and I can't wait to see the pictures. About the buffer AZDoug of SRT arms sells some replacement urethane 28 buffers, his web site is www.srtarms.com. I use these buffers in both my Colt Navy 28 and Bridgeport 28AC and they work great. One question, does your buffer pilot (recoil spring guide rod) have a hole drilled through the buffer pilot? If so compress the recoil spring and then insert a paper clip or some other object in to the hole on the buffer pilot. This will retain the spring and assembly will go much easier. About the loose rear sight you may want to touch bases with PK. Hope this helps Roger

  12. I was just looking at the serial number on the buttstock and buttstock plate for my Colt 28 and noticed that the serial numbers did not match the receiver serial numbers. I was told these number were added by the Remington who was the manufacture of the Colt Thompson buttstocks. My question did the buttstock serial numbers ever match the receiver serial numbers? Thanks Roger
  13. I was told there are a few Colt 28's that do not have the U. S. Navy stamped on them Just the 8 overstamped on the 1 in 1921. I have a friend that has a British Lend Lease Colt 28 that is stamped US 1928 A1 with the 8 overstamped on the 1 in 1921 and with US and A1 stamped on the gun at a later date. If memory serves me correct there are some picture of a similar gun in Tracy Hills book as well photos of a non US Navy stamped 1928 Colt. Roger
  14. I just finished watching the Who concert documentary The Kids Are Alright on cable and there was a scene with Pete Townsend shooting a Thompson. The scene went like this, Pete Townsend goes out in his back yard to do some trap shooting but instead of using clay pigeons he uses some of his gold records. Never the less he cannot hit the gold records using a shotgun then he picks up a Thompson with a L drum and blasts a gold record with it. My question is did Pete Townsend ever own a Thompson? Thanks Roger
  15. What was the original finish on a Savage Commercial Thompsons? Were they blued like the Colt's? Thanks Roger
  16. How were the receivers marked on the Savage Commercial 1928 Thompson's in regards to manufacture and model number? Thanks Roger
  17. I saw a post from Gordon Herigstag regarding markings on Colt Thompson's and some people would post there guns complete serial numbers and other would not. My question is why should I not post the complete serial numbers to my guns? Thanks Roger
  18. The barrel on my Auto-Ordnance Bridgeport Conn., 1928AC has a O and a S stamped on it near the barrel/receiver alignment marks and there are 28 fins. The barrel on my Colt 1928 Navy Overstamp has no markings on it except for the barrel/receiver alignment mark. Also there are 28 fins on the Colt barrel and the fins are thinner than the fins on the Bridgeport gun. Hope this helps Roger
  19. I was looking through a Dillon Blue Press catalog and they sell a product that is supposed to prevent fouling of compensators, muzzle breaks etc. The product is called Carter's fouling preventative and compensator spray. Anyone use this on your Cutts compensator and if so how well does it work and will it damage the finish of a Thompson. Thanks Roger
  20. Phil, Thanks for you information. I am not sure what the military acceptance marks look like so I cannot tell for sure that the gun doesn't have them. Also what I meant by the picture board is the Thompson photo gallery on this board. Sorry I should have been more clear about that statement. Thanks Roger
  21. PhilOhio, Your Thompson sounds just like my Auto Ordnance Bridgeport 1928 AC Thompson. The only markings on my gun are as follows. On the top of the receiver is the Thompson Bullet logo, The right side of the receiver is marked Auto-Ordnance Corporation Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA, still on the right side of the receiver under the rear sight it is marked US Patents and bunch of numbers. The left side of the receiver is marked Thompson Submachine Gun Calibre .45 Automatic Cartridge and Model 1928 AC No. AO1357XX. The US was ground off as well as the 1 and restamped C. Both the upper receiver and lower receiver have matching serial numbers. There are pictures of this gun on the picture board. Thanks Roger
  22. What were the original types of finishes that were on the Bridgeport and Savage 28 Thompsons of WWII? Thanks Roger
  23. Are the Wolff 1928 Thompson recoil springs any good? I need to get some replacement 1928 recoil springs for my 1928AC Bridgeport Thompson. Thanks Roger
