  1. That's the ballpark for a transferrable. Original M2 stamped ones go for more. I've got one listed for $5500, an Inland marked M1.
  2. What I'm saying is I need to know the value of the W. Hurley gun. I have an M2 Carbine the owner of the Thompson wants, and I need to know the value of his gun so I can fairly make a trade. I don't intend to sell my M1A1, which is an Auto Ordnance. I was under the impression that some of the late W. hurley guns had problems, and this is a 3 digit SN early gun.
  3. I am fairly new to Thompsons, having just gotten my first(M1A1) last Dec. I have the chance to trade on a West Hurley gun in excellent condition, low 3 digit serial no. M1928, with Savage internal parts. I want to make a fair trade on both ends, and the present owner does as well. What is the approximate value of this gun? Besides posting on this board a private email would be welcome to mitch48@bellsouth.net http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/huh.gif
  4. I ended up with a 1928 buttstock w/ crossbolt but no other metal that I can't use, and my TSMG is an M1A1. I'd gladly let anyone have it for $20. Very nice wood stained dark walnut.
  5. Tell me more about the anvil. Is this a homemade item or can you buy one somewhere? I made a tool out of a large wooden dowel to force a dent out of a Thompson mag I got from Tapco. Bill-banger
  6. Neal was a very nice man in addition to all his other good qualities. He sent me a personal note when I wrote him that my wife too was battling cancer. He added her to his prayer list. That says a lot to me.
  7. Undoubtedly he means pre-86. I just paid the same for a pre M1A1 myself. Thompsons are high, but not THAT high! bill-banger
  8. Yeah, well I guess I can offset it by thinking of the box of 30 rd. mags I got from Tapco for $6 each. I guess I'll try Ebay with the stock and hopefully get most of my money back.
  9. I have no idea who made it, looks pretty good, but I guess I got taken, which is what I get for jumping on the first part I saw without doing any research. Oh well, live and learn!
  10. How do I post pictures on this board? I've searched the helps and can't find out how. I tried pasting them from my desktop and no go. Help? Bill-banger
  11. Someone on the Bowers board posted the email addy for Ken Houchens at ATF, and I sent him a note asking about two transfers that had been "pending" for several months. I got a reply back that afternoon from his assistant telling me they were now approved, and a week later the sellers got the form in the mail. I hesitate to post it here, but if you email me privately I'll give it to you. Bill-banger mitch48@bellsouth.net
  12. I'm not sure its allowed here, but I have a spare 1928 Buttstock for sale. I bought it for my anticipated M1A1 and was not sure at the time if it would fit, and of course it won't. It is brand new and dark, beautiful wood. No metal is included except the crosspin and buttons. Contact me if interested, and I apolgize if this isn't supposed to be on this board. Oh yeah, I need $50 for it.
  13. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/tongue.gif Thanks for the help, guys. I got home last night and figured out I could clip the end on the swivel and then depress the latch and go on through, and I finally found the website that shows the sling in two different configurations. http://www.rifleslings.com/index.html is the site for it if anybody needs it. And yes, I'll post pics and a report when I get time. I haven't even fired it yet, but maybe soon. Bill-banger
  14. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/sad.gif I finally got my M1A1 the other day, got home and got the sling out that I'd previously bought to intsall and can't for thelife of me figure out how it goes on. There is a clip at each end to attach to the sling swivels on the gun, but there is an end floating loose that looks like it should go through the webbing but neither of the clips will fit through the loop. I seem to recall a website somewhere that had instructions, but I can't for the life of me find it right now. Help?
  15. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/laugh.gif Notice he has NO bids yet. I went and looked at my mags after the last Ebay sale and two had the same markings as the one that went for $450. I could almost finance a new MG with my mags.....
  16. I've always liked "To Hell and Back", Audie Murphy's bio pic. Not totally accurate, but he carried aTSMG throughout most of the movie. The new "Band of Brothers" has lots of Thompsons in it, as well as "Saving Pvt. Ryan."
  17. I got mine the other day. They were heavy with grease, but cleaned up nicely and the minor dents some had didn't affect operation. good deal!
  18. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/huh.gif I've seen a couple of different places mentioned that have newly manufactured 7.92 Kurz but thought I'd get some places nailed down since I sold off all my old E. German stuff. I won't need a lot as I rarely get to shoot the gun, but I'd like to know where I can get some.
  19. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/unsure.gif Hawkeye Joe signs witha quote from "To Hell and Back" about Audie Murphy asking for his Thompson back. I've probably seent that movie 200 times since I was eight years old, and can yell out most of the lines in the film as I watch it. I read his biography a few years ago, "No Name on the Bullet" and recall that his weapon of choice usually was an M1 Carbine. Does anyone know if he ever carried a Thompson or that was just Hollywood? I do remember from the book that at a very young age he borrowed someone's .22 rifle to hunt rabbits for food for his family, and he always came back with spare ammo because he never seemed to miss. Same when he was killing Germans.
  20. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif I just received a pair of MP44 grips from this guy, excellent quality, almost indistinguishible from the originals.
  21. Perfect timing! I have a Thompson pending, wanted American Thunder and found it was sold out, now the expanded version is available for the same money. Mine is ordered, my Christmas present to myself. THanks, guys!
  22. Saw that. Well, at leas we know what one person thinks a Chinese Thompson is worth now. Of course, what he is offered will more likely determine the real worth.
  23. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif I just got some of them yesterday, and they are packed in grease, grungy, dirty, small dents, etc. but definitely usable. I have mine soaking in the parts washer to soften the grease for cleaning. I'd say they are comparable to many of the Sten mags floating around.
  24. I had seen some of this ammo advertised for $2.50 per round, but I think that's way too high. I was thinking more on the lines of $1.95 each in quantity. Make me an offer. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif
  25. I have 1440 rounds of 7.92K ammo, E. German mfg. dated 1961, laquered steel case. I'm willing to sell it if someone is interested. Its been sold. I would delete this post but don't see a way to do it.
