  1. Aside from The Sportsmans Grime, is there anywhere else to get good condition '28 parts kits? Especially any with the Lyman sight. SG now has them for $700 w/ the L sight (Lyman sight sold separately for $300). I didn't see any on Dan's Sporting Goods website. Thanks, ZLP
  2. To anyone who may be interested, I sent an email to Kahr's cust. service asking about when the C drums will be available. About 30 mins. later I got the following response: Mr. Powell, Good Afternoon! Thank you for your email. We are planning to start selling the 100rd Drums by the end of September. We currently are not excepting orders for this item. However, we will store your email address, and email you a notice once we begin taking orders. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us. Thank You Kahr Customer Service Just thought I'd let ya know, Zach (ZLP)
  3. Would it be possible / practical to convert one of these 10 rd drums into a 50 rd? I figured that if a 10 rd can be picked up for $25 it may be worth looking into. ZLP
  4. Has anyone heard when the new C's will be available from Kahr? ZLP
  5. So whats the deal with the Colt '21 #1769 from Florida advertised on Gunbroker? Opening bid of $65,000 ?!?! Seems to me that the last time I saw it up fpr auction the opening bid was $45,000 or something. Is it one of those rare models that is really made of solid gold, but painted to look like wood and steel? I know its a Colt, but that seems crazy (even with that pile of stuff included). ZLP
  6. Please forgive this newbie's ignorance. Right now I have to make due w/ my semi-auto, but I was wondering if someone could explain how building a Thompson from parts works. How is the completed gun registered (or is the receiver already registered)? Can just anyone do this, or would I first have to be a class II manufacturer or something? Would this route be any cheaper that paying some of the current asking prices for a '21? Any help / info would be greatly appreciated Thanks, ZLP
  7. I too have thought about this modification many times. The pictures really are great. They also seem to confirm what I have always thought about how it was done. Notice where the lock indention is on the rail and also notice Tom's index finger on the front grip. Doesn't it look like he is pushing a button on the front of the grip? I have always thought there would be a button on the front of the grip (similar to the way the forestock is attachecd on some break-open shotguns, with a button at the tip of the forestock). The wooden grip would have a metal piece inletted into it that would accept the grooves in the rail just like the buttstock assembly. The lock mechanism would be at the front and engage some kind of spring-clip. It could be done using the exact type of lock used on the buttstock, just proportioned differently. I have drawn it out many times and feel sure it would work. Just my $0.02 ZLP
  8. Thanks Guys for all your help. I strongly suspected that this person was full of it and just trying to show-off. But even so, whenever I hear of something off the wall like that I like to get a second opinion(s). After all, you never know what sort of new, crazy laws will be thought up next! Thanks again, ZLP
  9. I have a question about legally owning a short barrelled shotgun that I thought some of you may be able to help me with. It may also be relevant to putting a 10.5" barrel on a 1927. I have been thinking about applying to be able to legally shorten the barrels of my shotgun to less than 18", as well as put a short barrel on my Kahr. I was talking to a man who said he used to be a gun dealer, as well as own several full autos and one short shotgun. He said that the shotgun gave him so much trouble that he got rid of it. According to him, agents (I assume he meant ATF agents) would come to his door every so often to make sure he still had the shotgun, and verify that it was being stored in an acceptable manner. He said they would sometimes come at 2 or 3 in the morning, and he would have to get up and let them in right there and then, to let them inspect the gun and safe. If he was away, he would have to come back. He said they only did this w/ the shotgun and never once asked to see the full auto stuff. Does anyone know if this really is common practice, or was this guy just full of %*&$? If that is what really happens when one has a short barreled shotgun I think I will just skip that hassle and be happy w/ a standard barrel. Thanks in advance for any light you may be able to shed on this subject, ZLP
  10. When I got my first Kahr drum it didn't function worth a crap. I fired 300 rounds through it and not once did it run through an entire 50 rounds without a cartridge hanging up and jamming in the feed lips. It was also VERY loose in the gun. Way too much play. I emailed the Kahr people and told them that this was unacceptable to pay so much money for something that doesn't work. The lady I spoke to agreed with me and said if I returned it to them, they would send me one that had been tested at the factory. I don't know if they actually tested it at the factory or not, but the new one I recieved functions flawlessly. Not a hiccup after several hundred rounds. Just my 2 cents. ZLP
  11. Forgive my ignorance, but what is a mag anvil and where can they be found? ZLP
  12. John, Almost all of the smell was sucked up the chimney with the smoke due to the draw of the fire. Anyway, no one else in the house complained of the stink so I guess that is what happened to the aroma! ZLP
  13. Just one more opinion on how I go about cleaning the cosmoline off mags. The easiest and most effective way I have found is by just heating them in front of a fire to melt the grease out. I just put them in a pan lined with tin foil and set this in front of a fire in the fireplace and rotate them around every few minutes. Obviously don't let them get red-hot, just good and warm. Soon the cosmo runs out and the mag is wiped down while still warm. This does away with having to take the mag apart and also leaves a very thin coating on the inside to protect it. I have tried solvents and carb cleaner and they work O.K. unless the cosmo is applied very heavily as it is on the Tapco mags. Just my $0.02. ZLP
  14. This subject may have been brought up before, and if so I appologize. I'm having a problem with the rear sight on my '27 Kahr. The screws always loosen when I fire it. Even after only about 20 rounds the four srews have backed out considerably and the sight rattles around. Loc-tite seems to have no effect, and any other advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. ZLP
  15. Just registered a few minutes ago. I just got my drum from Kahr and it doesn't work! Something is wrong with the springs. It takes 2-3 clicks before the cartridges even advance to the feed lips, and 9 or 11 clicks only spits out about 6 cartridges. Any advice on what to do? Should I send it back or send it to PK?
