  3. Hi Steve, How do the other Serial number(s) compare stamping wise? Depth, style, size etc. The numerals look somewhat Germanic/European to me also, the bluing is not disturbed and the area around the stamped numbers doesn't show much displacement indicating to me at least, that it was refinished after re-stamping it... Is this the MP40 that you said that possibly had been reblued post war? The numbers are quite sharp looking and don't really indicate the typical heavy buffing that some "gun-smiths" might erroneously endow upon an MP40 in an effort to "make it look better" If it is the original finish then perhaps it was a factory error numerically or, an arsenal refinish circa??? If it is a post war refinish, it possibly is an arsenal (Norwegian?) rebuild... The serial number "strike-outs" look simular to some renumbered war time German firearms that I have observed.
  4. Here is the Thompson that Arthur had mentioned http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/helpn/C5270065.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/helpn/C5270066.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/helpn/C5270096.jpg Evidently this was turned in for destruction in Austrailia during on the firearms turn-in programs...How it got to Austrailia and why it was made is perhaps a mystery...
  5. Wow, I haven't seen this much interest in the MP40/44 boards in some time! And welcome to the MP boards Diane! It's nice to have new people on this forum as it goes for what seems like weeks with out any new posts! Anyways, i think that some of the MP44 magazines on eBay are possibly the Japanese toy (shoei) MP44 magazines as they are really convincing looking until you examine them. Evidently, these Japanese magazines fit and feed in the actual MP44's.. You where extremely lucky to obtain your MP magazines for $50.00 each! I take it that you have Peter Senich's book on the MP44 if not, it is a must have in my opinion as it covers the MP series nicely...
  6. Sorry I don't have any magazine housings, except the one that is on my replica mp40, and it is a slightly damaged example (at one time it looks like the housing was cut?) so, it isn't a very nice example...But it is I believe, a BNZ it is the 3rd type housing with out a serial # I can't read the Waffenampt on the front of the housing as the brushed finish makes it dificult to read the #'s. How badly pitted is your housing? I am sure that PK could do something with it to restore it in stead of replacing it..Besides, seeing that it is a C+R gun it kinda takes away from the mystic, refinish or not... I will keep looking for a housing you.
  7. Hi Sniper, What magazine housing do you have on your BNZ now?
  8. These are from potential visitors. They were posted on an Australian Tourism Website and the answers are the actual responses by the website officials, who obviously have a snide sense of humor. Q: Does it ever get windy in Australia? I have never seen it rain on TV, so how do the plants grow? (UK). A: We import all plants fully grown and then just sit around watching them die. Q: Will I be able to see kangaroos in the street? (USA) A: Depends how much you've been drinking. Q: I want to walk from Perth to Sydney - can I follow the railroad tracks? (Sweden) A: Sure, it's only three thousand miles, take lots of water. Q: Is it safe to run around in the bushes in Australia? (Sweden) A: So it's true what they say about Swedes. Q: Are there any ATMs (cash machines) in Australia? Can you send me a list of them in Brisbane, Cairns, Townsville and Hervey Bay? (UK) A: What did your last slave die of? Q: Can you give me some information about hippo racing in Australia? (USA) A: A-fri-ca is the big triangle shaped continent south of Europe. Aus-tra-lia is that big island in the middle of the Pacific which does not... oh forget it. Sure, the hippo racing is every Tuesday night in Kings Cross. Come naked. Q: Which direction is North in Australia? (USA) A: Face south and then turn 180 degrees. Contact us when you get here and we'll send the rest of the directions. Q: Can I bring cutlery into Australia? (UK) A: Why? Just use your fingers like we do. Q: Can you send me the Vienna Boys' Choir schedule? (USA) A: Aus-tri-a is that quaint little country bordering Ger-man-y, which is...oh forget it. Sure, the Vienna Boys Choir plays every Tuesday night in Kings Cross, straight after the hippo races. Come naked. Q: Can I wear high heels in Australia? (UK) A: You are a British politician, right? Q: Are there supermarkets in Sydney and is milk available all year round? (Germany) A: No, we are a peaceful civilization of vegan hunter/ gatherers. Milk is illegal. Q: Please send a list of all doctors in Australia who can dispense rattlesnake serum. (USA) A: Rattlesnakes live in A-meri-ca which is where YOU come from. All Australian snakes are perfectly harmless, can be safely handled and make good pets, especially The Taipans. Q: I have a question about a famous animal in Australia, but I forget its name. It's a kind of bear and lives in trees. (USA) A: It's called a Drop Bear. They are so called because they drop out of gum trees and eat the brains of anyone walking underneath them. You can scare them off by spraying yourself with human urine before you go out walking. Pretty cool eh?
  9. Yes, the Tiger, Panther and all of the other German tanks where gasoline powered, no diesels.. (with the exception of a few prototypes) Talk about gallons per mile! Or gallons per foot!
  10. QUOTE (Ron Mills @ Mar 28 2005, 10:50 AM)Well, if it wasn't for the high price of deisel these days, I'd pop for the Tiger. Are you refering to the actual Tiger or the T34 based replica "Tiger"? The actual Tiger was gasoline powered..Imagine the gasoline cost of operating an actual Tiger today! Not to mention maintaining the HL230 P30 V12! I would much rather have a Panther than the T34 or the Tiger!
  11. Yep, #2! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif And Mike, you didn't put up the "yes" button!
  12. Zamm, I wish that I could get my hands on 12 models too! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif The Thompson calendar sounds great tooo and I am sure with your tallent it will turn out excellent!
  13. Happy Birthday John Jr!! Gee, the big ol' 31!! Did you get to go shooting today?
  14. Hey Mike, That's the second list that has incorrect about Washinton state's laws. We are not allowed anything other than suppressors, aow's and destructive devices. I don't know who makes these lists up (maybe the ATF?) but two of these lists have been wrong this one and autoweapons.com's list. I wish that someone had been feeding myself and others in this state B.S about full auto possesion. But, sadly,I have seen Washington states rules/regulations no way for me to own them. (unless,I become a dealer)
  15. I just found this place http://www.nfaoa.org/ they of course, are trying to fix the problems with the NFA and various other NFA related problems. Specifically, the Lautenburg admendment to the GOPA of 1986..Whether they have any chance of doing anything positive depends on the NFA community. I of course, know what it's like not to have much in the way of NFA freedoms in my state as we haven't had civilian ownership of machineguns since 1922 according to Washington state... so, I cannot do much other than complain or move! So, it would be nice to repeal the rottenburg admendment and restore some of our rights! It wouldn't affect the older Thompson prices, but it would be worth it as various others might produce at least a few non Khar-Krap-actually functioning Thompsons and take the pressure off of the new NFA owners! I know, it's probably a dream but it's a nice one!
  16. What do you think this truly is off of? If somehow, this is off of a "Colt", this would be the cheapist "Colt" made Thompson item out there..
  17. Not one, but two, parts of my favorite firearms where involved in this "accident"..The horror.. (No Thompsons where actually harmed in the making of this flim) The horizontal forearm isn't too rare and can be found for cheap..But the MP40 lower grip frame that's another matter...Anyways, a sad use for great parts!!
  18. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...7134471315&rd=1 This is a strange one here folks! I wonder was this done during the war or was this someones post war play around the garage with spare parts and let's see what we can make with a hack saw! It's scary!
  19. That's awesome snipershot1944! Gee, I wish that I was in a free state! Ah well, maybe soon.. Man, That will be great to finally take it home and to the range with out the dealer being along with you! Ah, the power of the Polite E-mail! That often works the best compaired to phone calls and or letters which can be lost or given the "run-around" Anyways, enjoy that MP40!
  20. Yes, Happy Birthday Chris! What's been keepin ya away from the boards? Work?
  21. From the pictures and other information that I have available to me, The sling "ring" should be on the RH side. In fact, the MP38(L) the experimental MP38 that was made of cast aluminum has the (cast in!) sling ring on the RH side..Most if not all, of my war time MP40 pictures show the sling ring on the RH side and the soldat hanging the MP with the muzzle pointing towards their right slung across their chest. I think that the sling rings placement was either mandated or placed in the individual soldat's digression..I do believe that the sling should be on the RH side though.
  22. All of the steel casings that I have recovered have been boxer primed and I have successfully reloaded 2 or 300 rounds and have had no problems in doing so. Also, they have cycled/fired with no problems what-so-ever in the various pistols and my Khar M1 that I used to have. But, I would not recomend reloading these casings due to the millions (billions?) of brass and more importantly, cheap bulk ammunition, that is usually brass cased..
  23. I believe the problem is with the steel cases, is the fact that steel casings do not have the elasticity or "spring back" of the so called cartridge brass..That is of course, when the cartridge case expands during firing it hugs the chamber walls tightly, in fact, compression forming into any defects that the chamber may have. These can be microscopic imperfections but they will increase the frictional coefficient..And due to the lack of elasticity inherent in the steel cartridge casings(compared to the brass casings) the case(s) "stick" in the chamber causing the extractor undue stress effectively decreasing extractor life. The Germans and later on, the Russians experimented with coatings to combat this "problem"
  24. Allright Hawkeye_Joe! Gee, I wish that I could have a live MP40 not just replicas! But in order to obtain one I have to move to Idaho or some other class 3 friendly state. Definitely stock up on lot's of 9mm! And obtain a good strong dissasembly catch spring if your dissasembly catch isn't hard to operate as in an extreme case, the catch can vibrate loose and allow the receiver to rotate slightly when firing and trap the sear in it's down position..Run away gun time! I know it is an extremely rare occurance but it is worthy of note.. rakerss74, I have made some rough sketches of a semi-auto MP40 internal mechanism and I am confident that the mechanism would work AND, the ATF would approve the manufacture! They would be made in the 16" carbine version (ugly!) SBR (yah!) or the pistol version with the stock in the permanently closed position.. They would look just like the MP with out looking "cheesy" like other semi-auto versions of other sub machine guns like the M3A1..
  25. "while biting into a freshly baked Ear?" Euu! I don't know Lionhart, but that sounds kinda cannibalistic to me! Yes, but you are right about the elephant ears they are great!
