  1. For me it's my Sterling as I love the simplicity, smooth shooting and reliability it affords. With the two complete parts kits and mags that I have it should last my daughter long after I'm gone. I may change my mind in the future though when the 7.62X39 conversion becomes available for my Post-86 Bren MKII.
  2. The 40 round Suomi drum was the original size I believe and then later added another coil or two on the inside of the drum to make it the larger capacity. The 40 rounders were not frequently seen compared to the 71 round Suomi drums they were mixed with when imported.
  3. Thanks for your input guys as I'll get at least one barrel from them ordered, maybe a 2nd to have as a spare as well.
  4. Thank you for that as I've never ordered anything from them before and will have to take a chance on the barrel working with the kit.
  5. Thanks, I'll have to check that out. ETA: Just searched all over GB and couldn't find the Lanchester barrel, either already sold or my search abilities suck.
  6. Valhalla Arms over on weaponsguild.com in the vendors section has a signup for those interested in complete original length barrels w/flange and either threaded or not. Estimated price is $300-$350 at this time. Hope this helps others with kits and no barrels.
  7. I have a Lanchester kit on the way and am in need of a barrel. Anybody have an extra barrel, know where one cab be found or how much they're running nowadays? TIA
  8. I thought mine were rusty until I realized that it was just Cosmoline that had dried and was caked on the mags.
  9. I have a DLO tube gun built by the original owner I bought it from when I sold my Ruger AC556. I knew I always wanted one so had been collecting extra parts years in advance: bayonets, 100+ mags (many NIW) and two complete parts kits w/barrels. Since the Sterling was owner built the welds could've looked better so we had it Cerakoted a grey color since it was not an original black crinkle paint serial #ed model Sterling. The thing is a hoot to shoot and very reliable...I'm still getting used to the folding stock though even after all this time. I wish other firearms would've been designed to use the Sterling mags as loading them is like butter.
  10. It now shows the same offer as a Fathers Day $500 off special on the same two rifles. :)
  11. Those are very coll illustrations of Disney WWII art...long ways off from what Disney represents today unfortunately. Our niece has an embroidery business and can design/make military unit patches and sends them all over the world, she'll get a kick out of seeing this Disney stuff.
  12. I e-mailed an order for Thompson and other mags on Friday and got a response that afternoon that they had already sold out of the Thompson and FND mags by then.
  13. I always liked the look of the chrome plated LF-62, currently have a couple of the LF-57 kits that will deserve my attention someday when I have time.
  14. In 2015 someone on Subguns posted the entire 6-page list of Ellis properties guns and their serial #'s, I'll have to check but I may have saved the 6-page list in an e-mail. I bought a Mac-11A1 SMG that was sold to me as a "movie" gun and sure enough the serial # was on the list of Ellis movie guns...not the same as a Thompson though. I did not know about the "E" stamp for Ellis guns and will have to look for that on the Mac when I get home. I've always wondered how a person could get a certificate of authenticity or be able to track what movies a particular weapon was used in but they probably didn't keep those kind of records for something like a lowly Mac compared to the Red Dawn AK's or the Rambo M-60.
  15. Owner built (not me) on a DLO tube...I've been thinking about sending it off to Andrewski to be gone through but don't want the crinkle paint job as the parts kit serial # was originally one of the satin finish Sterlings.
  16. I'm sure you already have by now...but have you contacted Tom Heim over at beltfedplus.com? He is the man with these .22lr conversions and I just purchased the last parts needed from him to complete my .22lr conversion for the 1919a4. I would check with him soon as he has a couple of the ANM2 bolts still and is thinking about selling one or more.
  17. Thank you for your insight on the ZK 383...did you happen to run it with the weight in the bolt or without the weight and have the faster cyclic rate?
  18. 21 smoker I see that you had a ZK 383 out at the Hernando Shoot...how do you like that little Czech sewing machine? I've got a parts kit and have thought about building it up as a Post-Sample but haven't heard much from anyone that has shot a ZK in full auto to form enough of an opinion to make a decision one way or the other.
  19. Nice video Dan! It's good to see kids out shooting and need to get our daughter out and shooting again before I get too busy again. I'll be getting ahold of you soon as I have some questions on some of your more recent Post-Sample conversions I've seen on video.
  20. Back from Iraq now Dan and looking forward to coming up your way for some trigger time when it warms up...this kit looks great for the Thompson and we need one for ours for sure.
  21. Also check out weaponsguild.com for more info on Brens, although it's mostly semi Brens talked about there is a conversion available that allows you to shoot 7.62X54R thru a Bren. Looking forward to checking out the Bren forum here as we have a Post-86 and I think I have 6 or so MKI & MKII kits around.
  22. Welcome Mike and I too have enjoyed reading your books and articles over the years. I know what you mean about the North Korean PPSh clone being a real hoot to shoot as there is another dealer back home who has an original C&R Korean PPSh that is blood etched on much of its metal surface. Good luck with your recent acquisition of the M-2 Carbine and if you don't have a good supply of 15 round magazines for the Carbine start buying them as most find they are more reliable than the 30 round magazine that was produced for the M-2 Carbine. Actual USGI 30 round magazines work much better than the aftermarket 30 rounders that you see around most of the gunshows.
  23. dutigaf I'm glad you posted your Thompson semi build over here as it's a natural fit for this site. I've looked thru it and am amazed at your ingenuity in building with common tools your Thompson, as well as all the other kits you've converted in the past, and gives me hope that I will be able to do something with one of the '28 Thompson kits I have sitting around.
  24. that shows a cowboy standing on a porch holding his Thompson at his hip and possibly shooting some objects in the distance. I have a friend who has a photocopied picture of the above and the quality of the photocopy is not very good so it was hard for me to make out what he was looking/shooting at in the distance. I'd appreciate any help you might be able to give me as he'd like to purchase one of these posters/signs. Thanks!
