  1. Just something I got in my E-Mail today and thought I'd share http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif Remember two or three weeks back when 3 "As New" (99%) '1927A5's showed-up on Sturm' ($1,250ea) and I mentioned in a thread about them that I was the 4th person to E-Mail and call about them? I was told that the first person who responded had asked to buy all three and that they'd (The sellers) be in contact with me should the sale fall through. Well, I just got this from them today lol: WTS: THOMPSON 1927 A5 PISTOL/CARBINE NINETY NINE PERCENT 45 ACP. AUTO ORDNANCE CORP WEST HURLY N.Y. ONE STICK MAG AND ONE DRUM SEMI AUTO,STEEL BOLT. GUN IS LIKE NEW CONDITION NICE CASE. SALE PRICE $2200.00 http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif I KNEW it was too good to be true!lol Looks like someone was a little overwhelmed by the response and took another look at what they were selling. I don't honestly know what these things are worth but I WAS willing to go $1,250 for one. $2,200...? hmmmmm.....
  2. Well, the $550 DOES seem to be a more than fair price (To me) but I have to admit I just missed-out on a mint (Possibly un-fired?) WH '27A1 two months ago for $550 at a show near here. It was in AS New condition and had a detachable stock kit installed (With BOTH buttstocks) and the guy was asking $650. It was a small show (The last Eugene OR show) and about half the guys through the door at opening had to stop and oogle the thing. I decided to offer the seller $600 (What-the-hell, he can always say no http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif ) but wanted to wait a while 'till the group around his table thinned a little. So I'm standing outside talking to an older gentleman with an M1 Garand to sell at "Maybe" 20min's into the show and this guy comes walking out with "MY" Thompson! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif (lol) He got it for $550. What a bummer! The seller had the what was arguably the most popular gun at the show (At least as far as pulling folks to his table) and he takes the first low-ball offer made. Anyway M1Brian, I tend to agree with you that those deals are few and far between http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif
  3. Thanks for the suggestions guys http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif Art', I looked at the books available here but, I'm "Guessing" some of them go over the same stuff (?) I'm gonna get "American thunder II" for sure tomorrow (It looks like a great book to start with) but I'd like to know what y'all use. I'm just starting-out here and would like to "Balance" books for coverage of the different variations. Thankyou very much for the heads-up
  4. Hi folks, I'm going to order "American thunder II" monday and was wondering is there are any other "Have-to-have" books on the Thompson for someone just beginning to educate themselves about the myriad variations (Full AND semi-auto) the gun has gone through for almost 9 decades (?) What's YOUR "Go-To" book(s) when you have a question about a marking, stamp, cartouche....and can't or don't want to go on-line and wait for an answer? Thanks in advance for any advice http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif
  5. QUOTE (Mike Hammer @ Dec 3 2005, 07:41 PM) A. F.: It's Velda... man, not Zelda, whoooo now you really upset her, I'm gonna have to calm her down, come here doll....OOh, that's it's baby. The point that this private dick was tryin to make was that nobody gives a rats behind if it's Colt or West Hurley thats stamped on the side, it's still a THOMPSON!, and they both do what they were intended to do, nobody's lookin at the tiny little side engravings when there looking at the business end of these choppers. Mike H. Here's the way I look at the subject (Of replica's); late 19th century Colt '73 SAA's are out there for me to buy right now. If I want one for a shooter I'm still gonna pay 4-5 times what a very high quality Italian (Or American) REPLICA will cost me. For a fraction of the cost I get to experience the feel, the smell, the sounds ect... of owning and shooting an original "peace-maker" (Or Schoefield, Thompson, MP-40 et al). What I "Lose" is the ability to look at the gun and wonder (And research) where it's been and who's used it over the decades (Alot of fun IMHO). I think replica's are fine. A well maintained '21AC with provenance is awesome but, an NIB '78 WH/AO is AFFORDABLE (LOL) and will give me about 90% of the Thompson "Experience". I just won't be able to pretend (About the '78 WH) that my gun was at little bohemia (With the police) or guarding the door to some (Romantic) prohibition era warehouse. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif
  6. QUOTE (Z3BigDaddy @ Dec 3 2005, 02:38 AM) Yikes forgot I promised a picture..... Well here are two.... <center> <img src=http://mydrive.roadfly.com/blog/uploads/z3bigdaddy_IMG_0818.JPG> </center> I paid $1,500.00 for this off GunBroker a few months ago..... BTW This is sitting in Orygun t-head. Nice, makes me really wish I still had mine.
  7. QUOTE (full auto 45 @ Dec 2 2005, 10:05 PM) Here's 3 for sale. Now we know where they have been hiding. Wisconsin 3 A-5's for sale I was the 4th guy to read that ad this morning and actually called them (As well as E-Mailing) to say I'd take one. The guy I talked to said they were talking to the first person in line to buy all three http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/sad.gif They said they'd get back to me by monday so....... I'm not really sure what they're worth(I saw that $4,000 one on gunsAmerica or Gunbroker.com a month or so ago) but I used to have one and thought it was about the "Neatest" (11LB) "Pistol" I ever had. I would'nt mind having another one and we almost never see them here in OR/WA. Do they show up much in other parts of the country? EDIT: I just re-read FA45's quote and realized that they must be about as hard to find in other places.
  8. QUOTE (PhilOhio @ Dec 2 2005, 02:25 AM) QUOTE (Sgt @ Dec 1 2005, 04:20 PM) I wonder if we could make it go the other way? Actually, we did. It was called "the 2000 election". http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif THAT'S funny! lol
  9. Thanks for the input guys. Ron A, you have a great point! lol Zamm, yeah, I've had a couple of the WH '27's over the years and even owned an 'A5 that I (STUPIDLY) sold in 2000 for $1,200 (Which was a heck of a lot more than I paid for it) and I don't remember having too many problems with any of them (Other than those nasty long BBLS http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif ) Hawkeye', Great cartoon! Sums it all up pretty good. Sgt, Just awesome guy! Replace that vertical fore-grip with a horizontal one and put a cutts-compensator on it and you have the gun I'm wanting to build. I didn't even know about the open-bolt option 'till I saw your gun. Looks like I messed-up more than I knew passing on that deal a couple of months ago. I don't know WHERE I got my information about the Kahr guns (I'm thinking Kahr PRESS RELEASE right now! LOL) but it's looking like I've been misinformed about them. Thanks again for giving me a clue.
  10. Hey folks, just found this place this morning and wanted to say GREAT site! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/woot.gif I found it (This site) looking for information on the Kahr produced versions of the '1927 VS the older AO guns. I'm looking to buy one and Actually passed-up a great deal a couple of months ago (An "As new" AO '27 with detachable stock kit installed for $550) because I "Heard" that the Kahr guns were being made quite a bit better than the old AO's were. After reading a few of the threads here I'm thinkin' I got some bad info on the Kahr's (?) Anyway, just wondering if it's better to find a pre-Kahr AO or go with one of the new ones? The gun will be the starting point for an SBR project I'd like to do. Thanks in advance for any tips http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif
