  1. Thanks for the info and It looks like I'm off to Kahr unless some guys semi gets run over by a semi and the only piece left intact is the bolt. M1Brian
  2. I had a chip of metal break off the bottom of my bolt on the front of the groove where the sear catches it which has caused my M1 semi to fire a round out of battery. Is it possible to repair something like that or due to cost and the reliability of the repair would I be better off replacing it? If replacement is the only way to go does anyone have a wh semi bolt they want to part with? Thanks M1Brian
  3. That's exactly the A1 I thought the c&r list may be refering to but I did not want to speculate. It would be nice to know for sure. If the guy got his kahr or WH through on a form 1 more power to them and I bet the gun looks nice. I guess it's all in how or who interpets the law. It appears he went about it the legal way and took the time to get the proper signatures. Hopefully it will make it easier for those who wish to do the same thing. They should just do away with most regulations that take 5 lawyers to decifer. If someone is going to use a firearm to commit a crime they are not going to worry if the barell is a particular length or if the stock collapses. M1Brian
  4. I was aware of the C&R law regarding legal ownership of SBR's in MI but had no idea a 27a1 was on the list. I went with the oal barrel/comp at 16" and Dan made a 2" longer foregrip. It looks pretty darn good. Anyone have a link to the list? I'd be curious to see if the M1 is on it. I wonder if it got on the list because of the american historical foundation model? M1Brian
  5. Previous post was dead on. PK did my wh27a1 the barrel was cut down with the comp being permenantly attached to batf guidelines to an OAL of 16"s. If it could removed that would be considered a sbr in MI and a no no to own. The OAL with the 28 stock assy removed was 29 3/4" and you could almost argue 30"s if you counted the end of the firing pin. Hence the gun went to the police dept. for the so called safety inspection. That being said no type of safety inspection is preformed. The serial number is copied down and you get what Michiganders call a green card. If I ever sell that rifle in MI the buyer must go through the same process. Just like buying a handgun in MI you have to go the safety inspection route. From what I understand Mr. Cox is working on taking care of that also. Mr. Cox has worked hard on issues important to firearm owners in our state. I cant wait to be able to make my M1 look more like the real thing and loose some of that barrel but it sure isn't worth any prison time over. M1Brian
  6. Eagle3 I live in MI also and went the semi route due to the way MI used to interpet the full auto laws. Now that they have changed and recognized the law allowing ownership of said weapons I've thought of going the way you did. Did you go through the county sheriff or local leo for the sign off and if so was it handled like a green card or were there some tough bridges to cross? In regards to PK my wh27a1 now looks like yours (except for the 16" oal barrell/comp) and runs like a champ. Dan made my foregrip 2"s longer so the appearance is a lot closer. PK also did my whm1 with the same results. As age creeps up I would like to thin the herd a little and just have several quality pieces instead of a bunch of mediocre stuff. Don't get me wrong I'm not that old and dam sure not ready to die I just don't use the stuff any more. Why not put the proceeds towards a FA Thompson. I already have all the goodies to go with it.To bad the CMP can't get a load of Thompsons instead of M1 carbines and sell them off. You could count me there on that sale. M1Brian
  7. Very nice collection and I think of some items I wish I would have picked up years ago but just walked by at gun shows. Then I had the Barret Jackson auto auction on and saw the price of some of the muscle cars I used to own bringing and kicked myself in the ass for ever gettin rid of them. I think I'll go with the IMA pouch and they will probably get me for another Thompson or WWll related item while I'm at it. Thanks M1Brian
  8. I thought IMA's were repros plus I didn't think they were originaly issued in the lighter color. Aren't the originals the darker green? In regards to wanting an original or a repro I'll be happy as long as the material and quality of the workmanship would match that of a mil spec pouch from the WWll era. I could just imagine the premium on a pouch that visited Hitlers eagles nest. I would be looking for the one that the MP that guarded the latrine wore. M1Brian
  9. You guys sent me to the right place when I asked who had the best Kerr repro. sling. The sling from What Price Glory was top notch and really looks good on the 27a1/28 conversion. I wish I would have waited on buying my spare drum but my whA1 was at PK's when the group buy was going on so I jumped in. My wh L drum and the new Karh were inspected and/or adjusted by PK and I dont have any problems with either. With a semi 2 drums are enough. It's time to get a pouch for my xxx's and I was looking for a 3 cell. I purchased a xxrd 5 cell with mags from Dan at Omega and would like to stick with that style and color if possible. I dont need any mags just the pouch. So far all I've turned up are the ones at IMA. Is anyone else out there selling these and if not has anyone bought one and liked or disliked it. Thanks M1Brian
  10. Elbow Why can't you have a detachable stock in MI ? I do and I live in MI. The gun just has to be presented for a safety inspection and issued a green card. The MI 26"/30" law states that a rifle to be legal in MI must have a barrell length of at least 16" and an overall length of 30"s. If the firearm has a 16" barrell (mine has a 16"OAL with PERMENENTLY ATTACHED per BATF guidelines comp.) but the overall length of the gun is shorter the 30"s but greater then 26"s it must be presented for a safety inspection and issued a green card. If the gun has either a barrell shorter then 16's or an overall length shorter then 26"s it is considered a short barrelled rifle and very illegal in MI. With a 16" barrell and the stock removed you are about a 1/4" short of 30". If you measure it to the rear tip of the firing pin you could almost argue legality. If you dont hold a MI concealed pistols license technicaly your suppose to file for your green card first. The only thing that gets you there is the card is only good for 10 days from issue. I stopped in the PD first and let them know I would be walking in the door with a cased rifle. The officers that checked it out thought it looked pretty cool. I even got a call at home a few days later from the chief. He was going through the paper work and saw auto ordnance thompson for a safety inspection and just wanted to be sure I wasnt trying to put a FA thompson on a green card by mistake. In regards to the bolt hold open it's a modified pawl from what I can see and PK's markings full auto and semi auto really look good on the side of the 27a1 receiver which he also remachined for the 28 stock assy. About a month ago I finally finished it with a repro Kerr sling from what price glory and it really looks good. Dans 2" longer foregrip makes a big difference also. Now a 3 cell xxxrd pouch and I'm done. Already have the drums, xxx's and the xx's with pouch. M1Brian
  11. Can someone anwser a few questions on the M1 Carbine ammo pouches? I want to get a pouch for the STOCK of my m1 carbine and I would like it to hold 2 fifteen round mags. Is this possible? I dont want to sound stupid but I started looking for one and have read many different descriptions. First it looks like there is a difference but I have seen some listed as working on both the belt and the stock and then I have seen stock type listed as only being able to hold 2 fifteen round stripper clips. Are those just bad descriptions an am I correct in my asumption that there are 2 different type pouches. One pouch for the belt and one for the stock both being able to hold 2 fifteen round mags? Thanks M1Brian
  12. Thanks for the info I thought I had read something like that a few months ago and didn't want to order until I was sure. Well I guess its time to warm up the plastic. M1Brian
  13. I was getting ready to order one of my xmas presents today and want to make sure I pick the correct sling. If I remember correctly there was a thread about the kerr sling repo from what price glory being to short but I couldnt find it. I'm putting it on a 27a1 / 28 conversion with one of dans 2" longer grips and dont want to go to short. Should I go with the 1917 instead of the 1903 or is size not an issue. Thanks M1Brian
  14. anticus If your talking semi here I had PK do mine. From what I can see (and I'm an mechanic not a gunsmith) it appears to be a modified pawl installed in the gun. I'm not sure if any machineing was done to the selector shaft or not. Best to ask Damon or PK direct. On a 27a1 there is a bolt hold open on the top of the reciever. If you pull the bolt all the way back and lift up on the cheese grader knob the bolt is suppose to stay back. I've heard from this board that feature is very unreliable and wear occurs to the larger hole. It must be nice to live in a sbr state in MI I had to go the OAL 16" barrel and welded comp and to put icing on the cake with the 28 stock assy. removed it was a 1/4" shy of 30" oal. I had to take it to the local pd and have it registered like you would a hand gun. Not that it was a problem doing that the officers all thought it looked really cool. It just would have liked going the sbr route. M1Brian
  15. Thanks for the info. The Lyman sight I got from them was in good condition but I think I'll hold off on the sling. Brian
