  1. I use Wolf steel cased in all my 5.56/.223, 9mm, and .45 ACP guns. Several semi and full auto AR's, two FA and one semi Uzi, my only Thompson, and an assortment of handguns. Never had any problems that could be attributed to the ammo, but all my guns run smoothly on everything EXCEPT the aluminum cased Blazer. It seems to deform during extraction or is very underpowered, or both, and causes frequent stovepipe FTE's in a variety of my weapons. I probably shoot a total of 2K rounds a month average amongst the different calibers, mostly in full auto. The Wolf 9mm does seem to be a fairly hot load compared to the other calibers, but that is merely my opinion.
  2. Just lending my "technical" expertise about Wolf ammo, as PhilOhio has done regarding Kahr. Thank you for clarifying that point. The brass cased Wolf has been available in .223/5.56 for several months with mixed reviews. Here's a link to their survey and review by users dated from 3/1/06. http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&...3&f=16&t=271478
  3. "Maybe I need to buy a...gun (technically they are) from Kahr and shoot some crappola Wolf steel case ammo through it, or that Russian stuff, just to introduce a little adversity into my life, for spice." Wolf IS Russian ammo. It works fine in my subguns, and in my AR's in full auto. There's lots of Wolf bashing on AR15.com, but the concensus is that it's cheap, reliable, less accurate & powerful than many "Premium" brands. Good blaster ammo. It's slightly less powerful than some factory loads, but as far as I know, no specific gun/ammo issues. The Blazer aluminum case is not reccommended by Vector Uzi, however, and reloads voids their 5 year warrantee I believe.
  4. azboater, John Jr No, not azboater or anyone civil on this board. You should be able to figure it out. I'll leave it at that. I'm not sure why he's so angry all the time, but I'm not losing any sleep over it.
  5. QUOTE (JimFromFL @ Apr 27 2006, 10:57 AM)Did you call and ask if they actually had them in stock or if they are expecting them in? I'd only be wasting their time and mine by calling to ask if they were in stock. They've been on "Backorder" since last year. The last delivery date they emailed me was for 5/12/06. I only posted the availability in case Hell does freeze over.
  6. Browsing the Sportsman's Guide site for Thompson gear and discovered that the "L" drums are back in the mix. I imagine they had some cancellations from the last shipping delay. Still, if you're interested, maybe...
  7. Artie, Certainly no offense taken. As always, your posts are a great source of amusement and entertainment for me. Keep up the good work ! PS: Thank "MeToo" PhilOhio for me, he'll know what I mean.
  8. PhilOhio, I now see that your opinion is the only one that really matters here. Good luck to you and Artie on your "Special" relationship. Expect that I shall be a regular participant on this board. Word to the wise, Don't reply while you're angry, if that's possible, that is.
  9. Ok, I'm an idiot. You and Artie are "Thompson Gods" Nothing to see here folks, move on. There, you win. Go ahead and have the last word just to cinch it.
  10. PhilOhio, You're absolutely right. You're really another "Artie" aren't you? BTW, check the thread heading if you think my comments are out of character. Why didn't you actually contribute to this thread instead of merely commenting on my recognition of a grammatical error by your idol? Are you just boosting your post count?
  11. I was paying $150, but I have a new part time dealer that lives in the country and only charges me $50. Plus I get to shoot my new toys in his back yard as soon as they arrive. Apparently that thread got Artie so upset he actually made a gramatical error !! Oh, the horror. "especially if you have to defend your prices to perspective customers" Shouldn't it be, "Prospective"? I only mention this because he generally tries to impress us all with his vocabulary, hoping his air of intelligence will color his argument.
  12. I got mine also, and they threw in a free "C" drum!
  13. Chris, Glad you're pleased with your new knife. I have the white Micarta top UTX70 and a carbon fiber top UltraTech UT-6. Both with black double edge blades. UT-6 Are you sorry you didn't buy a Chinese knife instead? Dale Edited: I also assume you're pleased with Robert at The Brighter Edge, his service and prices.
  14. QUOTE (DC Chris @ Mar 26 2006, 11:51 PM)Thanks for the responses guys. This is exactly what I was looking for. I just placed an order at thebrightedge.com for an OTF Microtech UTX-70 Black Plain Edge Blade. http://www.thebrightedge.com/xcart/custome...&cat=312&page=1 Looks like a good blade - I can't wait. Chris. They are nice. One other thing, since you've ordered the UTX-70. They are 70% the size of the Ultratech, thus, UT x 70. Get it? They are fairly small. It will fit into your Levi change pocket with the clip attaching it for safekeeping. I'm in Oregon and auto knives are legal if not concealed, and with the clip visible that's all that's required. I have a comparison photo, but can't see a way to attach it to this message, so I could email it if anyone's interested. You will buy other Microtechs, I can almost guarantee it.
  15. I have a few Microtech OTF (Out The Front) models and am very pleased with their overall appearance and quality. They're not cheap, but for $200-$500 or so, you get a decent product. Here's a link to an on line vendor of their products with whom I've dealt. The Bright Edge Robert at that site is great to work with, and has about the best prices on the Microtech line. There is a new model that was presented at the SHOT Show a few weeks ago. Called the "Troodon" I believe. I'm waiting until it's available to add to my collection.
  16. I've heard different stories about the faster processing time, but not all transfers are going quickly. I have one transfer pending since 12/15, and another since 1/17. The problem as I see it is the Examiner who has my files. Ms. Alma McCoy of the DC office is living up to her well deserved reputation of being one of the slowest ever. I'm not sure how she gets files assigned, I've heard it's by first initial of last name, and also by region of transfer. Anyway, I've talked to her directly and she always tells me she's just waiting for the prints to come back from the FBI background check. Somehow I visualize her as one of those New Orleans female Police Officers who were pushing a shopping cart through Wal Mart on the news after Katrina. You know... dedicated. I'm calling again Friday and if it's not approved by then, I'll ask to speak to a supervisor. I called West Virginia for a status check today, and the gal who checked was very surprised that they hadn't been approved yet. She actually tried to connect me to Alma, but I want to give it until Friday. For Information Only: I was told that all new form 4's will be processed by the West Virginia Office, and DC will have no new files. You still mail your paperwork to Chicago, but they will forward all to W. V. for processing. I only hope Alma doesn't move to the new office, I've got 4 more going in next week.
  17. Me too, Me too !! I just added another 2 to my back order. Actually, I guess it's a new order, but they're showing the same shipping date so maybe I'd better call and have them place them all in one basket. Great find, Thank you.
  18. Artie, As I previously stated, you're entitled to your opinion, but I think you're wrong. So, there you have it, we disagree. But with over 1700 posts in this forum, it's obvious you are like some of the posters in a Rolex forum. I refer to those who seem to live for the thrill of expounding on a subject they feel they know better than others. BTW, Fortune is not his real middle name, do you know what it really is? You know, being such a history buff, and all. As you seem to always require, have the last word. I'm bored with you, and won't be reading it. Let me apologize to the rest of the forum for allowing "Artie's" demeanor as "Expert On Everything... Ever" color my approach to this thread.
  19. Artie, I respect your OPINION, but I still think you're wrong. You or I will never know why the use of the Thompson name and stampings were not challenged, but that alone stands as one of the few FACTS, that they had the right to that use. I believe it's because they had the right to use them, and every at the time also knew it. If it walks like a duck, etc. My OPINION is they're all Thompsons. I really don't see you in the class of individuals you've championed, so I hope that's not what you're implying. All you are dealing with is hearsay on hearsay. There is no need to reply to this comment, most seem to agree you're beating a dead horse, and we don't seem to have anything in common, (Except we own Thompsons !). I defer to the FAQ for the forum. Artie, did you read this or merely peruse it? Sorry, no need to answer. "Are West Hurley submachine guns real Thompsons?" "This is one of the most hotly debated questions among Thompson collectors. Purists argue that, no, they are not. Citing patent issues, the somewhat blurry history of the Auto-Ordnance Company, its purported cessation of operation 1944 (and its numerous subsequent changing of hands), some believe no new Thompsons were produced after the end of WWII. West Hurley full automatic weapons are, thus, considered reproductions of the original Tommy Gun. Still others contend that the guns produced by the Auto Ordnance Company of West Hurley, NY, in the 1970's and 1980's are the direct descendants of the original Thompsons. There seems to be evidence to support both ideas. It is likely there will never be a resolution to this debate."
  20. Artie, seems like you're swimming against the tide. Get over yourself, and just enjoy your Thompson like the rest of us.
  21. Being a relatively new member, I've just read all 7 pages of this thread. It seems to me from what's posted that ALL Thompson style SMG's are replicas with the exception of the originals created by Mr. Thompson. Thus: Colt=Replica Savage=Replica AO=Replica WH=Replica I realize some have an agenda for preserving the "Sanctity" of the "Colt Only as Thompson", but it seems to only be a distinction of quality, not lineage. I'd be very surprised if everyone shared my opinion. Remember though, even if it's written in reference material, it too may be only an opinion.
  22. I just received my demilled parts kit from Sportsman's Guide a few days ago and was satisfied with it's condition. I originally put my order in when looking to buy a 1928 WH without a Cutts. I ordered the kit due to the Cutts being included, not to mention a spare barrel, lower, etc. Well, the deal fell through on the original gun, but another came on the market so I bought it. It has the Cutts already in place, but I figured I'd keep the parts kit anyway, because of the spares. The lower is in pretty good condition, the stock and forestock are both so so. The barrel and Cutts look good also. The bolt and associated parts look unused. The serial number on the lower is A060743. If anyone can supply info from this serial #, I'd lke to hear about it. I also bought 3 of the "Used" 30 rd. stick mags. From the looks of them I'd say "Used" is very kind. I'll be surprised if any of them run well, but who knows, I won't have my gun for several months. I'm probably going to register this FA to a Family Trust. I also ordered one of the "L" drums for the $359 or whatever it was from Sportsman's Guide, I'm showing it on backorder and due to ship on 2/28.
