  1. Haha, I like the ship to destination - Those miniatures are awesome. Thanks for posting, Pit "...The cargo, under army supervision at Cork, included 250 rifles, 250 pistols, 25,000 rounds of ammunition, 200 antitank and antipersonnel mines, 500 pounds of gelignite, 300 grenades and quantities of TNT, fuses and detonators. It was reported from Cork that some of the cases were marked “Tripoli.” The Claudia's captain, a German, and his crew of eight were not charged. “They are being booted out of our waters, and quickly,” Mr. Donegan said. “They were only involved for the money.” This afternoon the Claudia sailed from Ireland..."
  2. Cannot find it as a YouTube clip, but Dollars to doughnuts, I'd wager Jimmy Cagney (with chicken leg in other hand) uses live rounds to shoot the trunk of the car where the cop is hiding in White Heat. The rounds cave the back of the trunk inwards and the pistol kicks far more than with a blank cartridge and then jams in a full recoil. Take a peek let me know what you experts think - it's one of the few moments I recall where an actor is employed to shoot a live round on camera. Ron, glad you're doing well!
  3. When I started out almost 40 years ago a lot of prop houses had their own armories, only a few remain now: ISS, Hand prop room and a couple of others. Gibbons used to do a lot of my transfers, the business as whole is profoundly changed now. Still, the ISS armories are terrific to visit when you need something special. Most of the independent armourers I know are getting out of the business, keeping a CA DOJ Dangerous Weapons permit (as well as the Federal permits you guys all know about), that has to be renewed every year is a major headache. You would need MG, SBS/SBR, DD and .50 on your tabs to be fully stocked and each is a separate charge to your credit card (and a separate charge for every firearm of that type in your inventory), and should DOJ be slow in renewing, which they are every year, you're stuck with an inventory that could put you in the big house, "stressful" doesn't describe the feeling adequately. Some of the tax-incentivized states, GA and NM etc., have armourers who are able to stay in business without the CA headaches, they have some nice toys. I rented an MG42 for Michael Rooker in GA that the owner said had not gone bang since WW2, not sure I believe him, but it was a nice one.
  4. Cool picture, a clearly posed, George Raft and James Cagney getting some Thompson guidance form an expert. Each dawn I die (1939)
  5. Sten MKIII with a Sten MKII stock, because the MKIII stock is just a little more comfortable.
  6. That is a great set up you have there, Johnsonlmg41! How did you determine the markings were incorrect or correct for your Bren, via markings on the mags, or the mag chest? I agree on the book prices, however, we're in the minority now, as the act of buying a book is an anathema to this new generation. I love my book collection, regularly inherit books people "can't give away." Interesting times. The music video guys are fine, they're all just working hard making a living, they know they're playing a game for the most part, lol.
  7. Thank you, indeed there are quite a few more interesting Bren items to collect, including a tripod. Feel free to post your Brno + Enfield, or ZB pictures here folks, would love to see the other Brens, Bren variants and accessories out there. I had a ZB26 adapted to BFONG when I started out, we never could get it to cycle right and no one ever rented it (it went out on one music video), so I traded it for work on another project. Of course I miss it now, and have tried to trade it back, lol. ZB in music video.
  8. Happy Fourth of July Guys, I responded to a previous post (NFA Amnesty) to show pics of board members MP44's - I realized the pics I had were over a decade old and so I hauled the old girl out and photographed her again today. Shown with some of my mags - Yugo Military pouches and a Luftwaffe fighting knife - MY IG account for my collection is fighting knife based, so I try photograph a blade in the pictures of guns. This was a Haenel 1944 parts kit that was professionally (not me) reassembled as a semi-automatic only with the appropriate denial elements and 922r parts. PS. Green is Verdigris on the East German KZ43 ammo. I used a HK G3 body locking pin, as they are made of sturdier stuff than the original pins that kept breaking. So mine sticks out just a little, it ain't going anywhere.
  9. Cheers Johnsonlmg41, Hah, indeed I appreciate the dislike of cosmo - these mags are not in cosmo, just unused, like new and in wax paper, I shot one, so they are no longer unused, hah. I just won another Bren Mag Crate (my third one) on GB for under $200.00 - As I literally only use a max of four mags at the range, it is all in preparation for the impending North Korean attack on the suburban US mainland, I am ready to do my part. I love the Winchester .303 boxes, but a quick search on line and I gather it was unreliable at best and dangerous at worst. The English troops did not dig it. I didn't know there were more versions of The Bren Gun saga book, this one was expensive enough and I am only a beginner stage nerd. But I liked it and the read was interesting, though a bit dry. Happy Fourth Guys - !
  10. I run a FBP bolt+spring set up in my MP40 (a Reenactor advised me to do this as we'd be putting a lot of brass through it, and FBP bolts were $100 or so at the time) - it is set up for motion picture blanks (Atlantic Wall full flash) and has NEVER faltered. Literally one of the most consistent firers in the armory. We have had to replace the ejector which broke, but that is another story. (*Yeah, I used an original slab sided mag on a movie, screw it, they were made to shoot.) And the day the ejector broke:
  11. Try Tor at https://www.dkproductiongroup.com Tor has supplied me with: 10 round mags (took some hand fitting) Recoil/op rods (slipped right in.) Bolt internals (slipped right in) They are modern production by SSD BD etc., though legally imported into Kentucky, USA. I believe he is still working on producing parts and recovers here in the US. Good luck!
  12. Thank you Richard, I have Apex stickers all around my gun desk, and I believe plenty of my Bren parts (L1A1, MP5) came from your company too, my apologies for leaving you out of the original post. Always, excellent service, turnaround and prices, highly recommended. I love the First Pattern FS dagger, the others patterns do accumulate while you hunt for the First Patterns, but they are the special ones IMO. Thank you, Jesse I believe some my L1A1 (flash-hider) parts came from you, or parts for the MP5 MP5 (trigger grip parts) or both.
  13. I bought these kits when the going was good and they sat languishing, I realized they are suddenly enjoying their time (they are getting more expensive and desirable.) So I snapped up some receiver chunks from BRP. Two mag carriers fell into my lap at Sturmgewehr.com , the canvas barrels came from Ebay I think along with the tools in a large lot from Australia, that took some time to arrive. I had Sean Prasky build the guns, this took a very long time as I guess the strikers have become difficult to locate now, anyway, they're not beautiful, but they run and go bang. I qualified on the .303 Bren as a cadet in the UK about a thousand years ago (1980's, yes the L4 (7.62x51mm) was being used by the regular army at that time, but snot nosed cadets were using No.4 Lee Enfield and .303 Bren Guns), so these brought back memories and they are just fun to shoot. The toughest part was finding ammo, and then... ...I walked into a local gun store and discovered they had a huge stock of modern .303 at about $ a round, so I stocked up, and can now see off an invasion of Square headed Waffen SS or black painted steel plates at my leisure. 1. 12 X magazine chests - one chest contains unused mags still in grease paper. 2. 2 X first pattern Fairbairn Sykes daggers 1941 - more valuable than the two Bren guns. 3. Winchester WW2 .303 - I have read this Winchester ammo was very un reliable. 4. The Bren Gun Saga book - a really good read, technical and anecdotal. 5. 2 X Canvas spare barrel carriers, with spare barrels and cleaning tools, parts., etc. (The barrels are individually head-spaced so I doubt these spare barrels will ever work with my rifles, but they are fun accessories.) 6. Royal Marines Commando beret. (not mine.)
