  1. Hey Bob, Can you tell me how your cases account for the cocking knob? Does the Thompson just teeter or does the case address the knob? Thanks!
  2. Hey Bob, Are those 20 or 30 rounders displayed in your case? That case is beautiful.
  3. Hey Pitchy, Do they actually work? You know actually functional in launching something?
  4. PK is expensive, but his work is meticulous. His price is worth every penny to me and many on these boards. His knowledge of the Thompson problems and his machine work is not matched by anyone. If you have a Thompson, PK IS the Thompson doctor.
  5. I never noticed ANY differences in the 30 rounders. That is because I do not know what to look for. This is all very interesting to me. I will go through all my magazines. A reference book would be great for box and drum magazines. I would be one of the first ones to buy one. An autographed one of course.
  6. You did not mention the guns you are holding. I have never seen a M1 with a can on the end of it. What is the other gun?
  7. My WH was so tight, I had to use a rubber mallet to get the two apart. However, a trip to PK has solved everything. The receiver might be out of alignment because of the rolling of the lettering on each side of the receiver. PK knows how to inspect and check to see if everything is true. My WH is now just as good if not better than a Colt. It is beautiful.
  8. Welcome to SC. It was a communist state for a very long time, but we are now free for all NFA items. You have definitely done your homework on purchasing a Thompson. I could not afford $20K so I opted to get a WH and sent it off to PK. My WH now looks like a museum piece. I would agree if I spent $20+K I might consider flying out to look at it. You are doing well by asking around here. I also wanted a Thomspson for over 40 years. I have learned a lot just by reading all the posts. I have quietly followed the lead of many. I have also purchased many books. You are a lucky man to get an original Colt. That was my goal, but my WH 1928 is perfect for me. Anderson is a good town. Welcome to the warmer climate. You will enjoy fall, winter, and spring. The summers are hot. Keep us informed on your transfer. Good luck.
  9. If you are serious about keeping your WH then I would recommend that you contact Paul Krogh (PK) at pk@gwe.net for his input. You can send the WH to him and he will look it over and give you a synopsis of what might be wrong. PK is extremely good at detail. My WH was cobbled together at Numrich arms back in 1982. They used any parts that were available to get them out the door. He gave me a bag of parts labelled "junk" and a bag of Colt parts after he completed the entire restoration. He refinished it and it is beautiful. I have not even shot it yet. He will give you his inspection report and you can decide whether it is worth it to have the work done. Quality work takes time and money. His waiting list is about one year. Many feel he is expensive, but I feel the price I paid was worth it. The gun that he sent back to me was not the gun I sent in for him to work on. The only way I could tell was the serial number. Good luck.
  10. Is the sling swivel on the top of the butt stock? Is this inherent for the 1928A1 Savage?
  11. Wow! I have learned more about Thompson's on this board than any other source. (Except from your books of course, I love them) I have been directed by the most notable and experienced Thompson people in this great country. When I first came here, my knowledge of Thompsons was limited to my viewing of "Combat" and my Mattel Thompson. I have learned so much from so many. This board has been managed well and is a great provenance for my venture into the Thompson ownership world. People that have responded to my posts have helped me and encouraged me more than any other board. You will ALWAYS have those the feel they must "take over" their agenda in any organization. They begin acting like little kids when they get spanked for being bad. I have always regarded this board as a reference book. I sincerely appreciate the professionalism, humor, non-racist, and informative discussion. I have not posted as much like the long time RKI's because all I have to do is read in order to learn. Many of you directed me to PK so my WH will be a true Thompson. I have also learned I should have saved a lot more for a Colt. But, I am extremely happy with my WH gun. I have always wanted a F/A Thompson and now I have one. Well, PK has it now. To both Nick and Frank, thank you for your vigilance here. I appreciate your vision for this board and love being a member of it. I am hoping that the exact same format that you created for this board will continue. I just cannot get the opinions of so many people of great experience any place else on this planet.
  12. Hey Norm, is that the "Buzz Saw" you are holding? I cannot believe you were 400 pounds! Your weight loss is incredible. Good for you on the improvement of your health and your long road recovery from your personal life. I still cannot believe how you were treated and our prayers were always for you. It appears our prayers were answered ten times over. Now you can find yourself a "hot babe" to hold that Thompson. And please do not forget to show us the pics! Good for YOU!
  13. I have not had any problems shooting Wolf in Colt M16's. My M16's go through Wolf ammo like the Winchester Q3131A. For Swat operations, Wolf is used for play in M4's. For practice Win. Q3131 is used. For qualifications and duty use, Winchester PSP is issued. I am too chicken to shoot Wolf in my Thompson. I have seen others shoot Wolf in the newer 1927 guns with no problems at all. Wolf has a different odor when fired. Some people swear by Wolf and others refuse to shoot it. I know Jeff Zimba (SAR) orders Wolf .223 ammo by the pallet and has no problems. But, PhilOhio is correct, it is not worth a malfunction in the middle of a tactical operation. None of us are trained to bayonet up and exchange with armed thugs.
  14. Get your name on PK's list. The wait is about a year. PK will make sure your receiver is within specs. I have my WH with him now. My WH cycled without any problems. He emailed me to inform I was finally in line. When he gave me a quick synopsis of what he found wrong, I am glad I sent it to him. I am very new to the Thompson world. Many here are rich with experience and knowledge and are willing to share. It is going to require a lot of work to get my WH (cobbled together in 1982) within specifications. No other person can perform such meticulous work. If you change your mind you can always cancel so the next person can move up. I have learned a lot from everyone here. I wish I knew what to look for before my purchase, but the euphoria of finally owning a Thompson was too much. It has been a dream since childhood and PK will make mine into a keeper.
