From what i have seen on this and other sites, there is no numeric torque spec. As it was explained, once the barrel snugs up to the receiver, there is virtually no “give”, so torque required to snug it further goes off the scale. You just have to get it “tight enough” Im sure Deerslayer or someone knowledgeable will weigh in with a better explanation Good luck, Timmy

Stupid question/statement: ”The bolt locks back” - under what conditions/did you see how? Locking the bolt back with no mag installed is doable with a bit of fiddling. Locking it back with a drum in and no third hand is another matter. Yes, Captain obvious, i know. It will be interesting to hear about your range trip. Timmy

New to me 1927A1
TennesseeTimmy replied to Larryp44's topic in Thompson Semi-Auto Discussion Forum (West Hurley & Kahr Semis)
Mine has an aluminum upper. Yeah they are lighter. I didn’t set out for the aluminum, it was what was available at a decent price point. I do wonder if the EZ pull springs will contribute to heavier long term wear/damage as the bolt beats the sh1t out of the aluminum. Also, when Dan Block redid mine, he recommended against including the “quick change” barrel modification on an aluminum receiver gun due to concerns with the barrel threads in the receiver “giving” over repeated barrel changes. I haven’t noticed any problems so far, but i havent shot it a ton either. I decided the heck with it, shoot it and enjoy it, my son may wear it out after he inherits it someday. Nice looking M1 there as well. Timmy -

Thompsonbarrels dot com may still do them with fins. He did a fine job on mine. Timmy -

Very nice looking grouping. Dan is pretty damn awesome. (Although i would’ve thought today was “22 Friday” … ?) 😉 Timmy -
Deerslayer is a member here. You can pm him. Or, His website is thompsonstocks dot com. His email address is listed on the bottom of that page. My short barrel came from thompsonbarrels dot com. He did a nice job with mine. As did Dan when it was installed. Dan did quite a bit of other work on mine. Completely transformed it into something fun to shoot and show off. Good luck with your project. Timmy

Doesn’t the guy say he will return your upper not charge you for what he did to your lower and supply you with a replacement (aluminum?) lower? Get your stuff and the replacement lower back already and then get in line to have Deerslayer to do whatever it is you want done. Good luck with your project.

1928 Lower on GB
TennesseeTimmy replied to 68coupe's topic in Thompson Semi-Auto Discussion Forum (West Hurley & Kahr Semis)
Good eyes. Even so, as these have become unobtanium, it’ll still sell … -
It depends. If you use a GI barrel, the end of the barrel will be the correct diameter for an “original” / WW2 Cutts. Same for a barrel from thompsonbarrels dot com He will even thread the barrel end for a small upcharge. All bets are off if its a Kahr barrel and / or their press on compensator. Good luck with your project. Timmy.

IIRC, you can email Kahr and they will tell you the build date. Think i did it i don’t remember now …. -
Yeah, getting a 1928 lower for a couple hundred bucks sure was nice. And while I don’t regret having mine machined, even if it is a mortal sin to modify one, it’s been made a moot point now. That ship has apparently sailed and sunk to the bottom. If you have machining skills, there are plans / drawings out there covering various modifications to bring the non-detachable-buttstock Kahr lower towards the functionality of a 1928 lower - add detachability, selector lever, easy-release, etc. If you don’t, there are people out there who already do it. If i were you, I’d contact Deerslayer and see what he can/will do and for how much. You might be surprised. Yeah he often has a wait list, but you sent yours off a year ago and you still don’t have it back. And Dan will do what he says. My gun has made the trip to Iowa twice now. Good luck, Timmy

As the other poster mentioned rivets, he MAY be describing replacing the entire sight assembly, not just the leaf. But i could be wrong. I had considered trying what you are describing, but i never could find out for sure if it would work. Since i knew i was sending mine to Deerslayer for other work, i said the heck with it and i had him replace the whole thing and use GI rivets so it wouldn’t come loose. Let us know how yours turns out. Good luck, Timmy.
