  1. At first I read there were a few Owens in the registry and then I was told there were very few transferable Owens sub machine guns in the NFA registry. So then I see one come up for sale a year ago and it sold instantly before I saw it. Now I came across someone that owns 4 of them. I just bought one of them and paid almost double then the last one I saw came up for sale, but it is original WW2 with green paint, etc and I'd rate it as 85%. I'm on a quest to collect all the worthwhile subguns and the Owen is one of them for sure so I splurged. So how many are there? I probably overpaid but I'm just curious. How many are there out there and do you guys out there love them? What is current market value? Also, any tips on spare parts or mags? My initial search came back with nada.
  2. I have an E6 kit on the way so I'll let you know what I find. The M60 gets a lot of crap about design flaws and nonsense by everyone I've run into that owns one is in love with them and getting parts is really tough.
  3. The original for sale posted was sold right away. I made a strong offer but someone thought it worth full pop the day after the guy was thinking on my offer. http://www.subguns.com/classifieds/index.cgi?db=nfafirearms&website=&language=&session_key=&search_and_display_db_button=on&results_format=long&db_id=26568&query=retrieval
  4. Tony, The first issue about not enough pull is fixed in the E6 config so I am told. Looking lame in other configs... E1 does look cool and has history and I will never get rid of the original config. I do think E3 and E6 is cool also. It's odd. Very few people actually own one.. so it's tough getting feedback.
  5. The photo I posted is fake. It is Photoshopped of my goal can that I am going to have made.
  6. I paid $17k for it. That is certainly well shy of a clean USGI gun and acceptable and perfect for my uses as a shooter. And probably cheaper than buying and fixing up a WH M1. And if I want history I can always grab one of my other originals subguns. Thanks again for feedback.
  7. Thanks for all the info Bob. I'm all over it. The ad excerpt I found was from an old ad that probably describes one of your guns but not the exact one I looked at. I'll fill you in on the details and give a range report when I get the gun. So in 5-6 months. Thanks all.
  8. I shoot a Daniels defense free float rail system and it never gets too hot. You need to let the barrel cool plenty!!! 223 makes so much more heat then subguns. I can shoot my subguns 4 times the frequency of a 222.
  9. Thanks for the feedback. Does anyone else own one of these that are tranferable? What's a fair price for it?
  10. Here is what I intend to get made. My photoshopped version. Chop barrel to 5 inches and do a custom short and fat can.
  11. I have the opportunity to purchase this gun. The following description is from an old ad but I held the gun and it is completely new / mint. Not one mar, scratch, etc. I want a shooter and think this would be worthy as I believe this gun to have an in-spec receiver so I'm guessing value to be a little north of West Hurley M1's which look to be around $16-17k now but it's not C&R so I guess that would negatively effect the value a little. Form 4 lists it as "M1A1 Thompson Pattern". PHILADELPHIA ORDNANCE M1A1 .45 THOMPSON SUBMACHINE GUN... WE ARE PLEASED TO OFFER ANOTHER BRAND NEW /FULLY TRANSFERABLE EXAMPLE OF AN M1A1 .45 THOMPSON SUBMACHINE GUN.... THIS GUN WAS PRODUCED BY PHILADELPHIA ORDNANCE CO OF ORLAND PA IN THE EARLY 1980's AND PURCHASED BY THE COLLECTOR/CLASS THREE DEALER INVESTOR IN AZ FROM WHOM WE PURCHASED SEVERAL NEW MACHINE GUNS... THIS FIREARM IS A CHOICE NEW PRODUCED EXAMPLE OF A VINTAGE WWII TYPE U.S. MILITARY FIREARM.... THE GUN IS NEW INSIDE AND OUT... FEATURES ALL THE M1A1 UPGRADES DONE ON THE MILITARY PRODUCED GUNS SUCH AS THE FIXED IN BOLT FIRING PIN AND TALL PROTECTOR EARS ON THE REAR SITE.... THE FORMER OWNER OF THIS GUN PAID UNDER $400.00 FOR THIS IT IN THE 1980's AND RECENTLY CASHED IN ON HIS INVESTMENT!! INTERNAL PARTS ARE MOSTLY ALL SAVAGE "S" MARKED MILITARY PARTS.... UPPER AND LOWER RECEIVERS ARE SERIAL NUMBER MATCHED AND THE BARREL IS PROOF "P" STAMPED.... THERE IS A R.B. STAMP UNDER THE TRUNION OF THE RECEIVER WHICH LOOKS LIKE IT COULD HAVE BEEN FROM A INSPECTOR AT THE PHILADELPHIA ORDNANCE FACTORY.... THE FIT AND FINISH OF THIS FIREARM IS JUST SUPER.... IT WAS SENT TO JOHN ANDREWSKI OF N.H. FOR AN INSPECTION AND GOING OVER -- GUN NEEDED NOTHING BUT A LUBE AND TEST FIRE AND CLEANING AFTER NEAR 30 YEARS OF BEING IN A VAULT OUT IN AZ.... THE MILITARY PARKERIZE IS JUST BEAUTIFUL AS WELL AS HAS GREAT LOOKING WOOD STOCKS.... A LITTLE HISTORY ABOUT THE M1A1 THOMPSON MACHINE GUNS -- THE LAST OF THE MILITARY PRODUCTION THOMPSON MACHINE GUNS PRODUCED FOR THE U.S. MILITARY WERE THE M1A1'S AND THEY HAVE THE MOST SIMPLE OF INTERNAL PARTS TO MAKE FOR A LONG LASTING COMBAT FIREARM, SUCH AS THE "FIXED" FIRING PIN CAST INTO THE BOLT HEAD.... THE M1A1 HAS SEEN USE IN WWII, KOREA, VIETNAM AND IN POLICE DEPARTMENTS NATION WIDE.... THE M1A1 WAS USED BY U.S. SERVICE PERSONAL BOTH IN EUROPEAN AND PACIFIC THEATERS BY BOTH U.S FORCES AND OUR ALLIES.... AS TO BE EXPECTED, THE M1A1 THOMPSONS ARE GREAT SHOOTING GUNS AND THIS ONE IS NO EXCEPTION.... . IF YOU ARE IN THE MARKET FOR AN M1A1 TO ADD TO YOUR COLLECTION AND YOU DO NOT NEED C&R RATED THEN THIS GUN WOULD BE HARD TO TOP.... USES BOTH 20 AND 30 ROUND STICK MAGS... COMPLETE WITH 3) 30 ROUND U.S.G.I STICK MAG.... Any thoughts on the gun in general and value? I'm not sure how odd ball guns like this price. I know the real deal WW2 Bridgeport M1 like Ruben has listed for $26k is the high bar and a beat up West Hurley not in spec is probably $14k so obviously this falls in between. What do you think it is worth and would you buy it?
  12. I have a RIA E1 and planned to get a new E6 kit so I had the original config and the latest and greatest and then I stumbled across a deal an a mint E3 kit with a bunch of barrels that I couldn't pass up. I'm still toying with the idea of getting the E6 kit also. One guy told me that the E3 stuff is the best made stuff I should just shoot that and ignore that the E6 exists. I think I could sell the mint E3 kit for around $5k with a few barrels so basically is the E6 worth a $3k upgrade over a Saco Defense E3 setup. I've heard some say the Saco Defense stuff was the best quality stuff made with top notch steel. Any thoughts?
  13. Awesome post Bob. It's cool to see all the photos and work that goes into the reactivation status. Bob (Black River Militaria) has my MP18i right now doing a reactivation. I'm patiently waiting to see and shoot the nearly 100 year old gun. I'm trying to find a Solothurn and/or MP28 now so I can work my way through history with the different guns.
