  1. I was in your same position about 7 or 8 years ago. I personally really wanted a 28 as to me when I think "Thompson" I think 1921/28 vs. M1. (nothing wrong with an M1 though if that floats your boat) I was tempted by the WH 28 guns as they were much cheaper than a Colt, Savage, or Bridgeport gun. I ended up sort of compromising with a Savage 1928 "NAC" import Thompson. Mine is a NAC "suffix" to the original USGI Savage serial # with matching upper and lower and what appears to be a fully intact British re-import gun pre 68. The NAC "crate" guns take a price hit as many of the NAC guns are USGI made receivers but are a mix of parts assembled by Numrich Arms Corp post WW2 with questionable finish and quality. Most of these post WW2 NAC crate guns have abbreviated serial number NACxxx or xxNAC and the stamping isn't original to the receiver. To the best of my knowledge most of the full original USGI serial numbered guns with a NAC suffix added are factory made guns that were imported intact pre-68 by Numrich but still got the "NAC" stamp of shame during importation and command a lower pricepoint than a non-NAC 1928 would command. More info below. https://smallarmsreview.com/the-nac-thompson-guns-part-1/ https://smallarmsreview.com/the-nac-thompson-guns-part-2/ I personally wouldn't hesitate to purchase a NAC import gun and save a couple thousand dollars because it got NAC stamped after the original Savage or Bridgeport serial. This is my personal Savage 1928 NAC Thompson.
  2. Wow that is a blast from the past. Rob helped me with my first NFA transfer back around the 98/99 timeframe as a young kid just out of college. (Like most folks it was an M11/9) Rob helped me through the Form 4 process, gave me the TCSO CLEO contact information, how to request a CLEO sig from the Sheriff, fingerprint cards, etc. I transferred a few additional machineguns through him before he closed out shop in the early 2000s. However, I will always remember that very distinctive signature of his and I have had a few guns come to me from owners who bought them from Rob. Whenever I see the sellers Form 4, I immediately know who it came from as soon as I see that signature. Unfortunately I only knew him for a couple of years before he retired and sold the shop but without his help on that first gun I definitely wouldn't have the 20 transferables in my collection today. it seems Rob helped out many folks get their start in NFA firearms in Centex and I actually just had a conversation with a gentleman I bought a MG from back in December and both of us got our NFA start with Rob. I don't have much to offer picture-wise but this is his very distinct signature off one of the last transfers he did for me. http://i66.tinypic.com/26120ax.png
  3. Box 4A: Name and Address of Maker, Manufacturer, and/or Importer of Firearm: Numrich Arm. Corporation
  4. Sorry if the pictures caused confusion. The serial number is in the 116,000 range not the 11,000 range. I edited out the last couple of digits. (I guess I accidentally did too good of a job in paint) The serial is S-11621X.
  5. I own a Savage 1928 NAC Thompson that I purchase a couple years back. My example from what what I can discern appears to be somewhat complete with a numbers matching upper/lower and may have been a fairly intact gun that Numrich imported prior to 1968 as referenced in the SAR articles. I am not the Thompson expert but figured I would share what my Savage NAC gun looks like as these NAC guns always bring up a lively discussion and appear to come in a variety of "configuration" flavors ranging from complete parts mix-match to fairly complete/intact examples. I knew going into the deal that the collector value was always damaged by the "NAC" branding (regardless of how complete/original the gun was) but I am more of a shooter than a "collector" per say and this gun has run like a top since day it came home and the NAC branding saved me quite a few thousand dollars. I would agree that the gun on subguns may make a great shooter and was a solid deal at $20K but appears to have a mix of non-original parts and I would speculate the upper and lower numbers don't match. **Edited to add the serial number has the last couple digits edited out of the pictures on both the receiver and grip frame. The serial is in the 116,000 range, specifically S-11621X.
