  1. This post is for the second Thompson sub machine gun in my Sheriff's Office Arsenal I've been tasked to seek information about. No internal records reflect how or when it was placed in the inventory. Any insight or data by members is appreciated. On the left side of the upper, it's marked as Thompson Submachine Gun, Model M1A1' serial number is 545269. On the left front part of the the upper near the barrel are three faint cartouches; "FJA" in a rectangle and "GFG" in a circle. The "GFG" is stamped twice. The top of the barrel has a small "S" and a "P" stamped. Under the trigger the number 331907 is stamped. On top of the upper receiver behind the rear sight is stamped US Property. On the rear of the bolt is stamped a "S" and a "4." On the right side of the upper is stamped Auto Ordinance, Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA. I'm checking with BATFE to see if it was ever registered. The finish appears to be a period correct patena. There's no additional stamps or marks under the handguard or butt plate but there is an oiler in the stock! Thanks again for any help or history board members can provide.
  2. Great information, Frank! Thank you so much as it adds to the story. I can only imagine the incidents this firearm was involved in over the years. I'm still going to contact BATFE to see if it's in the registry. I have two more Thompsons to research and I'll post more about them soon.
  3. I was going to send BATFE a request on letterhead to determine if it was ever registered. I wasn't aware I could obtain the information by phone! I have two others Thompson's to research and that will certainly speed up the process. Thank you very much for the information, Black River
  4. I work for a large Sheriff's office in Florida and am tasked with trying to obtain any information of record for several sub machine guns in our inventory. One is a Colt Thompson Model 1921. The serial number is 365. On the right side of the receiver is marked Auto Ordinance Corporation, New York, USA. Any internal records reflecting purchase have long since vanished. The agency would like to set these up on display with a small information card containing any data I can find. I'm new to the forum and have my own gun smithing business with SOT. Any help would be appreciated! And for all service members on this Holiday weekend, thank you for your sacrifices and service👍
