  1. dalbert: thank you. different than my non usgi matt.
  2. I bought my non USGI M1 Carbine bench top exploded parts mat at one of the big internet retailers. Forgot which one. About 15-20 bucks if memory serves.
  3. Check the tax stamp paper and see what exactly is registered. Receiver or perhaps another part. Welcome to the M2 Carbine madness. Lots of rules and regulations.
  4. USGI M1-M2 Carbine. A strap. With 5 mags, a pouch, a cleaning kit and a small spares kit and the light rifle with about 150 rounds, about 12.5 pounds plus or minus.
  5. Lots of us here have extra firearms insurance. About the only thing I can add is that be sure you do not give your insurance agent a detailed descriptions along with the actual serial numbers. Some firearms insurance companies do not require such. Others do. Understand that if such detailed private collectors data is given out it may not remain secret or private very long. This is not saying Insurance Agents are not honest. It is saying that lots of folks in the insurance agency may learn specific things about your firearms that may not be secure. Loose lips sink gun collections. Also it might be a good idea to do some research on the insurance company. Make sure they are on the up and up. Paranoid? No. How much do you have to lose?
  6. See the stickie posts on this very subject. One of them gives a primer on the M2 stuff. I have a transferable M2 trigger housing. Flemming of Grants Pass OR USA. The M2 Carbine BATFE rules and regulations are kinda interesting. Also complicated. Some learning curve necessary but easy and fun. Enjoy. Edit: I am having a program program problem. Not this excellent Forum. Hope you can read the above. What I am texting is not what is arriving. Yikes!
  7. sc269 ... Your unused Colt conversion kit may, (may) be the older military M231 .22rf conversion kit. Does your kit have the one or perhaps two 10 rd .22rf mags that slip into a complete 20 or 30 round USGI aluminum magazine? If so it may be collectible. Good news, bad news. The older M231 military kits were 100% reliable with some easy fitting/tuning. Ours fit into the USGI 30 rd aluminum mags but not the 20 rounders. Just use high speed .22rf ammo. The bad news is spare parts nowadays may be difficult. A short story. Years ago when the Cub Scouts of America had rifle marksmanship merit badges we instructors would have a graduation day using the M231 kits in CAR 15 rifles. The kids got to hose SA from the hips at pop cans. They quickly learned trigger control. Much fun. Long ago, far away. Accuracy with the M16 barrels was lousy but acceptable for the application. Nowadays lots of people make complete .22rf top ends with proper barrel bore diameter and rifling twist. Also parts today are doable. Just some ideas. Edited for s/p, w/w.
  8. Respectfully ... Not sure what you are asking. All USGI M1-M2 receivers were forged-machined. There were two, (2) major differences. One was the long drilled integral deep hole for the op rod guild and spring. Most receivers were this type. The second was the separate tube for the op rod guide and spring. Quality Hardware used this type. There were exceptions. There was a war going on. Some failed deep drilled hole receivers were converted to separate tube type receivers. Salvage. Some makes. I will try to be brief. Long story. Two major different types of transferable M2 Carbines. One was the M2 marked receiver. The other was a so called "trigger pak" which had one of the seven specific M2 parts marked and registered ... PLUS there are other M2 parts that are also registered and are on the BAFTE legal M2 lists. Now we get to differences of expert opinion. Not me. I'm just a shooter. If I were looking for another shooter M2 Carbine I would concentrate on the various 'trigger pak" conversion kits. Not the M2 receiver versions. Within the trigger paks there are also best or better ways to choose. I have a transferable M2 trigger housing. Rare. BATFE registered. No moving parts. Wears very slowly. Can be legally swapped from Carbine to Carbine. Other rare BATFE legal registered parts include the M2 Slide, the M2 Trip Lever or rocker, the M2 specific disconnecter block, the M2 Switch and very rarely the M2 hammer and very very rarely the M2 Sear. All wear. M2 receivers can and do simply wear out and become out of specification. Eventually dangerous to use. Using a trigger pak allows one to legally swap out the trigger pak to another donor M1 Carbine receiver. My registered trigger housing is now on a late, sweet excellent condition Inland Carbine. 100% function with tuning. Try the CMP forum. They have lots of pros and collectors there. Also hopefully other collector here will chip in and correct me or add onto what I have mentioned. In order of value? 1) M2 trigger housing. 2) M2 disconnecter block. 3) M2 Slide. 4) M2 rocker. 5) M2 Switch. 6) M2 Sear. 6) M2 hammer. 7) M2 Receiver. The above would be the specific registered parts inside the so called generic trigger pak. In my opinion, (probably wrong) a registered M2 receiver Carbine would be the least valuable. You are stuck with that receiver. Receivers do wear out. I have swapped my trigger pak twice now. Legal. M2 Carbines are very fun. Addictive. Hope this helps. Respectfully. Possibly a deep drilled receiver is stronger than the separate tube type receiver. My opinion only. EDIT> I would stay completely away from any re welded receiver Too many things must be exact for safe M2 function. All Oregon State Laws, US Code Laws, NFA Laws And BATFE Rules And Regulations Apply.
  9. Technically and legally the only folks how (who) can demand to see your paper is a enforcement branch officer of the BATFE or perhaps a civilian BATFE person or possibly State or local law enforcement. Yep ... it is tax information protected by law as far as I know. That being said, the guy who owns the range calls the shots. Pretty much all of them. You have a choice of doing what he requests or try another range. Our world class range just N. of Grants Pass Oregon doesn't care either way. But, this is SW Oregon. Good luck. All Oregon State Laws, US Code Laws, NFA Laws And BATFE Rules Apply.
  10. Priceless. Awful. Too or to. Many examples. American English is full of words with several certified conflicting meanings. We need to be careful using such. Irreplaceable works. Horribly bad works also. Also also. I have experienced that a nice short hand written letter in ink hand addressed to my elected representatives seems to have more impact or weight of importance. Sometimes I even get a hand written note back. We will see.
  11. I never considered gas fogging the optic. How much of a problem is this? Yikes!
  12. Are there any rail top mounts that fit the rear dovetail? A low rail. Then the red dot fits on top of the rail. Steel would be much better than aluminum. Fitting would be expected. I also need to put a optic on my Inland. But please remember we are getting just better and better ... ... and not older and older. The other tried and true attachment method requires two holes drilled and tapped into the right receiver side. Not a optimal solution but it has been done.
  13. We have many of the "Korean mags". They weight about 4.6 ounces each. They came wrapped in brown waxed paper held on by an old tan colored rubber band. Oily finish. These work great. The have the bolt stop follower. The other box full of 30 rd mags have a shiny black finish with no oil and weight about 4.1 ounces or so. No wrap. They have a no bolt stop follower. I think the lighter ones came from Keep Shooting but don't hold me to it. Both work 100% in our trigger housing donor Inland. All Oregon State, US Code Laws And NFA And BATFE Laws and Rules Apply. www.keepshooting.com Site will not link but should be enough to get you there.
  14. Try either Keep Shooting or Lucky Gunner. We have a box full of 30 rd mags made by either one or the other. Forgot which. A little bit lighter than a USGI mag. Work 100% through our trigger pak M2 Inland. All Oregon State Laws, US Code Laws And BATFE and NFA Laws And Rules Apply.
  15. My fear is that no person or politician can be that non intelligent. Both know exactly what they are saying .... and doing. Just me.
