  1. Good evening. I just wanted to give a shout out to the group that was running the Thompson display at the Novi show this weekend. I had a few parts I was not sure of and bought them in to ask about them. I talked to Tracy, and he informed me of what they were. He was very friendly and helpful. Great guy. I also talked to Ron, Phil and Chuck, again great people and easy to talk to. I could not ask for better people. A former co-worker Dave from TACOM was behind the table also. I had a good time and learned a lot. Thanks for being nice to a new guy. Now I know why my old friend Glen W liked you guys so much. Marty
  2. Rekraps Thanks for the update on Scott. When I did get to talk to him, he was always nice and helpful. He could not fill my order and repair work took awhile. Being slow is ok, but not responding when you send him money is not.
  3. I shoot my SW76 all the time and would like a few spare parts just in case like Rekraps stated. I have bought recoil springs from Wolff, and a solid recoil guide from Hoffman (that guide was nice) along with one of his extractors. But Richard has passed away. My biggest problem was the trigger/sear engagement. Once you lose the sharp contact, the gun can do crazy stuff like firing when putting it on safe, or having a runaway gun. I sent an Email to Scott Audrey for repair work. FYI- He has a lot of good info on his web site about the 76. He states that he welds the trigger bar and then machines it down. He called me up one day about a year and half later. Hell, I was happy camper. We talked, nice guy. He had my trigger pack for almost a full year and when I finally received it, he only filed the bar. At the point I only wanted my trigger pack back, or I would only have a SW76 paperweight. I read that he is supposed to be back in business- Nov 2023. But the guy who posted that, said expect long wait times. I read on the 76 forum that John Andreski made a guy a completely new trigger bar out of hardened steel. I like that. As for extractors, I have never broken one, but found part of one in the trigger pack, when cleaning it. When I pass away, I want someone to say, Holy shit, he shot the hell out of his MGs. Merry Christmas to everyone. Moose
  4. Liked the pictures. The caption that say's; Youngest and adults inspecting military equipment in Brown City, Michigan. Born in Detroit and moved to Brown City after getting out of the Marines. Farm country.
  5. Have not been on in a while due to traveling overseas and then seen this. I met Mike at the Collectors show in Novi, Mi a few years back. I had him take a look at a few finned Thompson barrels I acquired and was not sure if they real and aftermarket. He was very friendly and helpful. I also met Roger and Tracie that day. All good people. My good friend Glen Whittenberger introduced me to the NFA world and then to many good people. They will both be missed. RIP Mike and thank you. Marty
  6. Saw this and thought I would pass it along. Auto Ord FBI case for $210 Moose https://firearmsdepot.com/auto-ord-thompson-fbi-hardcase/?utm_source=Klaviyo&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Welcome%20-%20Bags&_kx=Kubeq8x3E9EYBROBV8mEu-5oTrHcenfkVto_AWi99eI%3D.SVp6VP
  7. Met Stan at Knob Creek many years ago when he was behind Dan Shea's table. We became friends, stayed in touch and looked forward to talking to him at the Creek every year. He was a friendly easygoing guy and smart. I learned a lot from him. I will miss him. RIP Thanks for posting this. Marty
  8. I just want to say thank you to Dan Block for installing my Lyman rear sight on the West Hurley's. The hollow rivets finally gave way and his riviet job looks great. The WH has all GI parts, excpet the barrel and comp now, which I have. Just wanting to until the barrel wears out. He also informed me how to ship the SMG using USPS, which turned out well A little slow, but it made it both ways. I believe the travel from Michigan to Iowa took nine days. The funny part is he had the sight on with in a day or two. Cheers Marty
  9. I am happy to say the USPS accepted shipment of my Thompson (Reciever/barrel only). Had to explain that I could ship. The Post Master looked up the regs and said your right. I had it boxed up good, wrapped in brown paper and brown tape. They wanted me to sign a piece of paper saying it is unloaded. I did. Shipped Registered mail- The recipt says; Priority mail 3 days and the Regersited Mail under it. Insured for $20k. cost $66.00 I shipped it on April 12th, arrived on the 19th (expected delivery was 16th). All good, the Tommy made it. TomK thanks for your insight. Moose
  10. Good morning. My take on USPS shipping (not MGs). I had two incidences with them. A box sent from from Iraq (bayonets- with approval) that never made it home and one from Afghanistan which I mailed a few 1864 Enfield rifles home (they allowed it with property paperwork from JAG). Army Inspected, wrapped in brown paper with brown tape. Filled the forms and shipped Registered mail as they wanted. Listed value, paid for the insurance. Came home a month later. No package. waited, no package. Went to PO and told them the story and showed my paperwork. They asked me a lot of question, wanted info like; need letter from sender and receiver. Both me. Need proof I sent them. Had paperwork. Wanted appraisal. I said I paid this much for insurance and this is what I want. Was not good enough. More BS. Post Master involved. Nothing. PO General called. Nothing. They would not pay me for my insured package. Lesson learned; still need to use them, but do pay for insurance since you will NOT collect. The mail guys are cool, their system sucks. I need to mail my Tommy, and will call FED EX. Thanks. M
  11. Yes. I have acquired a lot of Rom 8mm for the 1919, WW2 45 from Russian, 303, x39, 54R, and 5.45 to name a few. To each his own. I'm a Marine and have use ammo from other countries when deployed and learned to clean the weapons with the right stuff. Today, I use Windex with ammonia, WW2 bore cleaner, or hot water with soap to neutralize the acids. Never had an issue. After many rounds down the 1919 barrel, it still checks out good. I have friends that do not, just like some of the folks above.
  12. Chris My rear site just came off of my FA WH Thompson. Can I ask who you sent it to? Thanks Marty
  13. I know everyone intends to give good and correct information, but some of the things that have been written are wrong. I am not a lawyer, but I have friends who are. If you were in Michigan I could have you contact them, but each state is different in their estate procedures. I have a Lady Bird deed for my house (I believe there are only four states in the union who allow you to use this). Look it up. As Dan K said; Hire a lawyer,( yes they can be expensive) but it will stop any wrong and costly moves on our part and your future beneficiaries. Wills go to probate, Trusts do not. Again Look it up. Dan Z is correct. When you die, your NFA toys will be passed to the family with NO tax. I bought two NFA weapons from a widow), and the ATF helped her with the paperwork, I paid the transfer tax. Merry Ploughboy stated; Do not put off Estate planning. Great advice. Look at all the people who bought firearms recently and now they can not find the lead they need. Poor planning on their part. Reading in fundamental, but hiring an expert in very important. Thanks Moose
  14. Sandman Thanks for the repsonse and education. I always look forward to learning. Moose
  15. Can some one please explain this M1 to me. Not an expert but it looks like a real Thompson receiver to me. The add says; Transferable- Remanufactured, never cut or weld.., so what did he do to make it and be transferable? Thanks Moose
