  1. Shouldn't the Finnish mags be marked with an SA in a square meaning Finnish Army (Suomen Armeija if Google translate can be believed)
  2. Never mind...damned ad blocker blocked their content. It happens on a couple of other sites as well.
  3. It may or may not have been an original Schnellfeuer that he rewatted/restored but he wouldn't have needed to reserialize it in that case. Based on barrel langth and shape, Mauserwerke markings and the sight, the upper appears to be from an M30. The bolt looks like new manufacture. The lower???? I'd hate to guess. The markings are consistent with an M30 but a whole lot of welding would have been required to slab side all the beautifully machined panels. I could be tempted but not at $30K
  4. I get nothing on that site other than the intro pix at the top of each page. There's no other text and some partial pix are blacked out
  5. That seller is well known for leaving critical information out of his descriptions and/or misrepresenting things. He covers his posterior by saying look at the pictures, WYSIWYG. Read his negative feedback. I'm not sure I'd buy a cap pistol from him but he does have some interesting stuff for sale at not so interesting prices
  6. That seems likely but wouldn't have they obliterated the S/N on the receiver? At this point what is the serialized part, the upper or the lower? Confusing to say the least. It would be interesting to see the F4
  7. This Schnellfeuer is a little strange. It appears to be import marked but also re-serialized by LaFrance. Picture #2 shows the S/N as 82068 but the S/N on the receiver which is only partially visible in Pictures #15 and #16 clearly ends in 7. Anyone know what's going on? https://www.gunbroker.com/item/1043274683
  8. From Sturm: http://www.sturmgewehr.com/dalbert/Reising/PouchCompare1_Web copy.JPG Here is mine (works nicely with TSMG XXX mags)
  9. I resigned my Life Membership long ago, around the time that the ILA tail began to wag the NRA dog but IMNSHO if the NRA wants to regain credibility they need to do and publish a full audit of funds both coming in and going out. We know that Wayne & Co. treated the NRA as their private ATM but the source of the money should be equally concerning. The whole business surrounding Maria Butina stinks. This was Washington DC where $1000 hookers get passed around like party favors so I'm pretty sure they didn't keep her around just because she was good in bed. If she brought Russian money along the NRA needs to own up to how much and for what purposes.
  10. Contacted Gary's Bunker. He said it wasn't worth fixing when replacements are only $35-$40. The owner is holding on to it for future use if his spares break and the parts supply dries up
  11. The problem is that absolutely no police/federal agency is going to be shopping for a vintage TSMG, Grease Gun, Sten or some arcane piece of vintage ComBloc weaponry. They are only interested in things that are either in current production (AR, HK, CZ, B&T etc.) or possibly for which both guns and spares are widely available such as an UZI. Anything else is (to borrow your phrase) coloring outside the lines. ATF has largely tolerated it to date, the principal exception has been the abuse of LE letters, but there is reason to believe that they will not long continue to do so. The abundance of SOTs who keep changing business names, dropping their current license and getting a new one for the new business simply so that they can sell their post-samples with no letter is clearly an abuse and cannot have escaped their attention. Do not be surprised when the crackdown comes.
  12. That looks a lot like a WH actuator. The impact marks are similar to those on my former WH 28's actuator. It is clearly a casting not a machined forging. Don't expect much out of it. FWIW my WH actuator cracked through the Blish slot and locked the gun up. It ended life as a paperweight.
  13. Mr. Ferguson is a very helpful person. He provided some useful information and a .pdf of a Lanchester manual that was simply not available in the US.
  14. The guy I sold my Reising to just had the hooked tip break off the connector. He's got a spare and they're available from Keystone and others so it's no big deal but he's wondering about repairing it. That hook takes a beating since the action bar trips it every time the bolt closes in FA. The point at which it failed is a huge stress concentration (one of several in the Reising but that's another story.) He's a more knowledgeable engineer than I ever was but we both agreed that a repair would not be likely to succeed given the cyclic impact loading on the part and the probability of getting the repaired section either too soft or too brittle through welding and heat treating. Has anyone had this failure? Did you repair it successfully?
  15. I was under the impression that post-samples were intended purely for demonstration and sales to LE, DoD and similar. Has ATF ever clarified in writing whether they consider range rentals a legitimate reason for manufacturing or possessing post-samples? Or have they merely tolerated them?
  16. Lots of newly-minted 07/02s jump into making posties just because they can; you're not alone in that. But remember that they are properly called "Dealer SALES Samples" for a reason. Building a TSMG or some other not in production gun that is not going to be used to generate sales the way that a converted HK, B&T or CZ could be is stretching the spirit if not the letter of the law. Basically don't think you're getting over on ATF. You're not. You're giving them reason to tighten enforcement of the regs and documenting it for them. Every Form 2 for a "sample" that cannot be used to generate LE or DoD sales is simply driving another nail in the coffin

  18. Light Machinegun vs. Machine Rifle is a distinction without a difference. Both fill exactly the same tactical role. The Chauchat was a hack job from day one and has not improved with age. It functions as an exemplar of how not to do things
  19. For $25K it would probably be worth transporting it yourself. I've done this twice, once to Kalamazoo MI (easy trip from NE Ohio) and once to Memphis TN (not so easy)
  20. ...and we're not packing it solid with grease. We're merely adding a light coat to the spindle where the rotor turns on it
  21. Do you have Frank Iannamico's S&W Model 76 book? If you don't you need one; if you do have one see the Troubleshooting section. It describes how to diagnose every other failure mode of the 76. Yours is listed on page 241
  22. Even if they were set at the shortest possible length with the spare mag just clearing the magwell it wouldn't be a good idea. Having the spare mag upside down almost guarantees moving losing bullets or moving them enough to cause a misfeed, shoving crud into the mag, bending the lips or all three. Taping them side by side facing in the same direction with a spacer between similar to how the HK mag clips work would seem to be a better idea
