  1. Amen to that! Thanks to all who have served in the military who have given me the freedom to shoot my tommy gun, plus many, many other freedoms that we sometimes take for granted!
  2. So anything new on the conversion? Haven't heard anything in a few months. Rob
  3. I think someone here owns it.... Best time to call you? Yes, this is a gun I am selling/ brokering for my mom. I will be available this morning between 8:15 and 9:00 CST, or this afternoon after 4:30 CST. Most of the pictures available are on my photobucket account, but I can take some more if you want specific areas of the gun taken. From talking with Gordon Herigstad, this gun was one of 3 Colt 27A's that the Camden PD owned. My dad did not share info on his Thompsons, so Gordon was very pleased when I told him about this one. There is a recent article posted here about the Camden NJ Thompsons that has a photo of 2 of them, but only the patent date side of the receivers are shown. http://www.dvrbs.com/PEOPLE/CamdenPeople-WilliamEKelly.htm Thanks! Rob
  4. I sure wish those photos showed the other side of those Thompsons, I have one of the Camden PD's Colt 27A's, and it has a 320 inventory stamp on the left side of the receiver. My dad originally purchased it from a dealer in Wisconsin in 1961. One of those two guns may very well be the one I own. http://s183.photobucket.com/albums/x234/ph...ommyguns004.jpg http://s183.photobucket.com/albums/x234/ph...pg&newest=1
  5. Has anyone tried to order springs from Wolff in the past few days? I have gone to their site several times over the past few days and tried to order, but when I clicked buy, the website timed out. Anyone else had this problem, or know what other source to order from? Thanks! Rob
  6. I received mine this week and it is an awesome case! I would not recommend putting loaded mags or drums in it either, when I put everything in my case unloaded, it was fairly heavy. Great job Gordon!
  7. I had a similar issue with my Savage '28 after a cartridge malfunction. After the malfunction, the gun would not eject the cartridges very far, and would sometimes turn the case backwards like yours and get stuck. I tried new bolts thinking it was the extractor, and it did not change, once I changed out the ejector, the problem was solved. After taking the old ejector out, it looked like it had gotten slightly deformed. It may not fix your gun, but it sounds like the same problem.
  8. I was wondering the same thing. Considering that Merle is the "Drum Doctor" I would think that he would be working on such an animal. I am on the list for one of the conversions, but the 30 round mags just wont last long enough in my opinion.
  9. Norm, FYI- I just got my approval for a suppressor transfer, and from the time the check was cashed the approval took 3 months and a week. Mailed F4 12/11/08, check cashed 12/16/08, received approval 3/23/09. Be prepared to wait. Rob
  10. photonance, If you were born before your father bought them then it counts, as I am sure he was just buying them for you. Jim C No, he was a gun collector long before I came along in '71. It sure is interesting to see the prices on the Thompsons back in those days, the transfer fees cost more than the guns themselves. I am sure that is why my dad purchased registered Dewats, which I reactivated :-)
  11. I know this probably doesnt count, but the two Thompsons I have, I inherited from my dad who purchased them in 1961 and 1962. He purchased a Savage '28 for $125, and a Colt '27A for $225. He had them mail ordered and shipped to his front door. You cant do that today as an individual purchaser.
  12. I have a 27A inbound to me. Should be in my hands within 3 weeks. #5066 I've got a 27A, #5239. Ron FYI, my 27A is #5286 formerly of the Camden, NJ police dept. Rob
  13. Have one 27A! I have a Savage 28 with compensator, and I definitely like the 27A better without the compensator. Rob
  14. I am very excited about this news! With the cost of ammo going up and up, I have started investing in .22 fun guns like the GSG-5, and it would be awesome to shoot .22s through my Savage '28. Will these kits work with or without a compensator attached? Just wondering if they will work for both '28 and M1A1 versions? Please keep us updated on availability, I would definitely like to purchase one of these kits. Rob
  15. You did an awesome job! How much time did you have to put in to make all the modifications? I wish we could own SBR here in Alabama, and I might try the same modifications. Oh well, at least I can legally own my full auto Savage 28, stupid laws!
  16. Thanks for your efforts, I enjoy this board very much! Donation sent! Rob
  17. Im sorry yes, it is a cadmus 1928a1, although these were burnt and sat in the rain the serial number is legible. I was reading on the 1919 forum and it looks like another guy who owned a few of these was able to get his rewatted. Im just having issues with the BATFE and why they wont tell me if they have record on the dewat status...or lack there of. The receiver it self has a few pits and a "cadmus ind" stamp on the top but other than that its intact, at first I thought it was illegal because it wasnt cut up but I have found these were sold this way. I think the trick would be to find a person in the BATFE who could do some research for me. One thing to consider is the fact that if it is registered, it would be on a form 5 in your dad's name. If this is the case, then he would have to be the one to fill out the form 1 to reactivate it. The other option would be for him to transfer it to you on a form 5, then you reactivate it on a form1. I have two Thompsons that were registered dewats I inherited from my dad, and when I called to check the status on them from ATF, they gave me no problems telling me that they were registered. I simply filled out form 5's, waited for approval, then sent in form 1's to reactivate them. How is yours deactivated? The ones I have, had a weld in the chamber, and all I had to do was exchange barrels. Good Luck! Rob
  18. I purchased a super select IMA parts kit a few months back and I was not happy with the finned barrel or the stocks. The barrel was pitted, and overall did not look to appealing, but the rest of the parts were in very good condition including the lyman adjustable site. The stocks had quite a few dings and in my opinion, I believe they are down to the worst of their kits.
  19. Is it just me, or are we seeing alot more of this kind of stuff lately? I don't remember seeing much of this a year or two ago, I could be wrong. Run Forest, Run!
  20. Not sure about the standard M1A1, but I have one that is in 736XXX serial number range, and savage made with no serial number on the lower as well. It was purchased by my dad in the early 60's so I know it is not a West Hurley lower. It is a US property marked gun. Don't have the reference, but I thought I have read that there were alot made with no serial number markings on the lower. If I find the reference, I will post it. Rob
  21. Good to know some parts are out there for one. FYI, I am in the process of reactivating my 27A, so there will be another piece of history restored. The welded barrel came off quite nicely with Doug's tools. Now I am in the process of having the barrel weld removed and rechambered. I will keep you guys updated. Rob
  22. Wanted to mention also that the more rare 1927A was just an option to buy the gun without the compensator. I have one that Camden, NJ PD owned, and was told by Gordon that all three that they had were 27A's, and were ordered that way to save money. I have included a few pictures below, I believe my dad or a previous owner blued the milled out areas on the receiver on the lower, most owners have told me that theirs is in the white. The 320 stamp was the PD's inventory number. Thanks! Rob http://s183.photobucket.com/albums/x234/ph...nt=DSC_0029.jpg http://s183.photobucket.com/albums/x234/ph...nt=DSC_0019.jpg http://s183.photobucket.com/albums/x234/ph...nt=DSC_0017.jpg
  23. I am also looking for a Colt Thompson barrel, does anyone have a non-compensator Colt barrel or know where to find one? I have a Colt 27A that is dewatted and I may try to reactivate before I sell it. These things seem to be awefully hard to find. Thanks! Rob
  24. I would have to agree, these guns are so old that there is no telling what has been done or not done to them. It is likely that mine has been reblued, but the simple fact is there are not very many of the 27's, and it does have a PD history. Thanks for the input guys, I love the wealth of knowledge on this board! Rob
  25. Actually, I'm not sure. The gun was wiped down with oil prior to these pictures. My dad owned the gun since 1962, so if it was refinished, it was prior to then. Rob
