  1. That’s what I ended up doing as well. I just couldn’t live with the screws haha.
  2. Wanna say it is 8-36. I installed an unprotected Lyman fixed sight on a semi auto and got the screws from McMaster-Carr. Button Head Hex Drive Screw Black-Oxide Alloy Steel, 8-36 Thread, 1/4" Long I did have to shorten them down a touch for the internals to clear.
  3. Just picked up my 2nd semi auto build yesterday from my FFL. Thought I’d share a lil bit about them if anyone is also looking to build something similar. All machining, woodworking, and assembly by Deerslayer. Left: 21AC/early Savage commercial semi clone. - wood by Dan - original lyman and riveted - dummy barrel and comp from thompsonbarrels 21 contour, sight blade re-profiled, drilled for blanks - resting bar from waffenmeister - 21 style fire controls and mag catch from Las Cruces - Flat ejector from Ebay - original butt plate - original pivot plate - original enfield sling swivels - reproduction M1923 sling - engraved fire controls - frame re-profiled, drum guides dimpled, bolt hold open, stock slide added Center: Remington UMC 1911 finished by Turnbull Restorations Right: M1 semi clone - wood by Dan - rear and front sight from Indianapolis Ordnance - resting bar from Waffenmeister - original 28 (paddle) fire controls and mag catch - original butt plate - original sling swivels - original pivot plate - blank barrel from Howell Arms - engraved inspector stamps, US Property, and fire controls - contour receiver edges - bolt hold open - rivet rear sight - hot blue by Bullseye Bluing in Georgia - reproduction Kerr sling from At The Front I think that’s everything lol. Deerslayer, thank you very much for all of your hard work!
  4. No… I didn’t even think to ask!🤦🏻‍♂️. I think we’re on to something with Indianapolis Ordnance though! They sent me a photo… 😬
  5. I just contacted Kahr this morning concerning the part and got a hold of a fella in the service department. He told me they stopped producing those cocking knobs about 2 years ago. I also asked about NOS or dead stock parts and was told they didn’t have any. So I reached out to Ravenna Armory about making some. They responded by saying they weren’t really interested in producing them, but check with Indianapolis Ordnance. I’m waiting to hear back from Indianapolis Ordnance now. I feel like a historically accurate aftermarket cocking knob would be pretty popular among the semi Thompson community.
  6. Good evening everyone! Hope everyone in the forum is staying warm as we’ve got -7° temps goin on out here in Kansas. So Deerslayer has been doing a project for me after he put his magic touch on a semi M1 Thompson clone. After some talking we decided to do a 21AC semi clone as well. Unfortunately as many of us know Kahr is no longer offering the round knurled ball cocking handle. All they offer is that large barrel shaped knurled cocking handle that some refer to as the “cheese grater”. Now the project is coming to a close and Deerslayer did an awesome job reshaping one of those “cheese grater” cocking handles. I just wanna put out some feelers though and see if anyone possibly has an extra knurled ball cocking handle that they would be willing part with. Below is the part I am looking for. Below is a few pics of my M1 and the 21AC being completed so far! Deerslayer, if you read this thank you for all of your hard work!
  7. Ahhh… Rangers… So I recently just left the 75th Ranger Regiment for my next duty station and more specifically I left 3rd Ranger Battalion. I love to collect WWII Ranger goodies, OSS things, learning about their training and so on. Through my skulking around unit histories and such I have found that “Rangers” were not just limited to the traditional Ranger Battalions that we think of during WWII. Funny enough I am now assigned to the 1st Infantry Division out at Fort Riley, KS. Units love nicknames and people love being associated with anything that will set them apart from the pack. We still do it today. Whether it be the Earth Pigs, The Walking Dead, or so on. The Army in general looks at anything with the word “Ranger” in it as different or better than other organizations. I won’t get into the whole Ranger School vs Ranger Regiment thing 🤣🤷🏻‍♂️. But it is… “of MY Ranger Regiment!” If you know you know. Any who! Sorry I was getting sidetracked. So multiple Divisions had “Ranger” courses. For example… 2nd Infantry Division had a “Ranger Battle Course” and graduates wore a black circle patch with a skull in it on the sleeve of their Field Jacket. They weren’t in a Ranger Battalion, but I would be willing to bet that many of those fellas called themselves Rangers. Just like Ranger School graduates today call themselves Rangers even though they may have nothing to do with the 75th Ranger Regiment or special operations. Now, in regards to 1st Infantry Division Rangers… here is a little cut out from some 1st ID history… It very well may be that the 16th Infantry Regiment decided to adopt the nickname of “Rangers”. Now as far as the Thompson… Who knows? It could be a thank you gesture from 2nd Ranger Batt. It could be something the 16th Regiment had made up post D-Day. Or it could’ve been a One-Of-One sorta deals where someone from the 16th Regiment had their Thompson engraved in Theatre? Regardless! Super cool and unique! Forgive me everyone for such a long winded post. Happy New Year by the way! Respectfully- Chris
  8. Good evening! I found something rather odd and I’m not quite sure what it is. I recently picked up an oiler for just a couple bucks and I thought it was a refinished Thompson 1928 oiler. Today I placed it side by side to one of the re-plated “1921” oilers that Apex has been selling. It has a “cool” (chrome?) plating on it where the Apex oiler is more of a “warm” nickel. It is also considerably shorter than the Thompson oiler and another original 28 oiler I have. I have no doubt the cap above the nozzle has been refinished as the ridged texture is gone but the plating shows no wear. The actual nozzle portion still has it’s gasket. I saw another post with a similar sized oiler but with the more common black “crackle” finish that accompanied a UD-42 in France. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Thanks everyone!
  9. Quick question! What’s the thread for the screws that secure the Kahr rear sights to the receiver? I’ve snagged a protected fixed rear sight and unprotected fixed rear sight for an upcoming M1 semi auto build. They are both reproductions. One from Sarco and one from Indianapolis Ordnance. They are drilled for rivets, but I got to thinking…. If I got a button head screw that didn’t look terrible I could drill the repro sights and swap em whenever. I just can’t stand the look of the profile of the Kahr sight and the screws that secure it… Im currently thinking the Kahr is set up for 10-24? Unfortunately I am away from home and I’ve been thinking about this probably longer that I should. Below is a pic from another member who did the same thing but the post was from 2013 if I remember right? Also a pic of the screw type I’d like to use. Lastly… I can’t remember who was asking about it, but Kahr is only making the “barrel” shaped bolt handles now. Their customer service contacted me after I inquired about purchasing a knurled “ball” type bolt handle. They said they’re discontinued and unavailable… 😭. thx everyone!
  10. Ooooof… yeah… if seven months is on the table then might as well just leave it as a SBR 😳
  11. Thank you for the explanation! Yeah, definitely wanna stay within all rules and regulations. I really appreciate the rundown 🤙🏼.
  12. Hope everyone is well and I have a question that another board member and myself were just talking about. Situation- I am currently thinking about purchasing a semi auto TSMG from another board member that had it SBR’ed on a Form 1. Question- If I have the 10.5” barrel removed and install a dummy/display barrel from Thompsonbarrels.com does said TSMG instantly become no longer a SBR that can be transferred as a standard long gun? Or, does it need something like being removed from the registry? (if that’s a thing?) At that point I would only take possession of the semi TSMG with dummy barrel and leave the barrel with a friend who would use/ store it with his other NFA TSMGs. Don’t wanna get hit with “intent to manufacture”. Some point down the road I would then SBR it myself. Anywho. Appreciate all the help and figured this would be the best place to start asking! thx- Chris
  13. Yeah… I was one of the fellas that was had… The forum member I engaged with has since been banned. The loss of funds hurts, but dang… getting scammed made me feel like an absolute imbecile. Stay safe out there.
