  1. I was remiss with no pictures and no update. October...you're right, by heavy metal, you mean MGC 1921 Thompson. I made a mistake...I think Collectors Armory use of Denix now misled me. MGCs are pretty plentiful so I understand Collectors Armory using them as long as feasible. I couldn't find the drum. , and I cant find the exterior pictures showing the need for restoration. I'll just make something up and post the goods soon as I find it. My armory is temporarily over stocked since I'm ramped up for production. For historical purposes ha ha, I'll give a post mortem on the drum. Fun fact: Auto Ord sourced drums for MGC, but MGC never sourced anything from Auto Ord, considering MGCs closely match sub gun Thompsons, which is the OEM, Auto, or MGC? Typing that I realized I could evaluate the MGC lower vs. Bob''s BFO upper. And see if less work is needed than Tom's work in Las Cruces to match a USGI lower with an Auto Ord upper. It's super easy, barely an inconvenience. Now I see the box and MGC 1921 Thompson as just an assembly I'm charged with deploying however someone wants it. One view of the MGC is I swap it with a Denix because what we're looking at is a windfall of MGC parts. The MGCs new life can be conversion to a more accurate representation of the actuall1921 Thompson, bigger Cutts and such, still cheaper than garbage gunboker standard. A Denix actually has a purpose: free up that MGC so it can go where I need it. The outside of the case has worn through spots.......but, when we have the skillset, we can fix it. The outside hardware needs refinishing. Now the case pays for itself. I can quickly spec out what would be needed to make an IMA case OK, one of many many evaluations I make...or quickly determine the IMA is trash...trash like Denix..The real beauty is if I don't have an example, I'll tend toward a "gold platted" spec that I have to walk back, which takes time. It keeps quality up, not down. I see the MGC can fill a specific US market need: It is actually a bad ass combat configured 1928A1. Conversion costs and time are minimal. Right now I'm filling an order to serve a M1A1 Hudson: 5 mags, 150 cartridges and "hundreds of caps"....If you repurpose the pictured MGC, now you can meet a need that was not met in any way at all. Postlogue: What about da guns? Las Cruces produces the assemblies .I need. I'm in line. So there is really nothing to do until I source a quality firearm platform. If Denix is trash, but you could spend a lot of time and fix it, what does that make Auto Ord insofar as Denix looks quality next to it. Denix plays it's assigned role of "garbage can for garbage parts" quite well, Auto Ord does not do it's job as "firearm". I can dress an airsoft, or modelgun frame quite easily with USGI stocks and save someone money over CAW/MULE stocks....Auto Ord has no redeeming qualities except conveniently not being competitive while I'm starting a business. THE MGC IS NOW A FREE RANGE THOMPSON, FREE FROM THE GILDED CAGE: THE PAUL FOX BOX
  2. Well dang, hearing they came in is great to hear! Pictures?
  3. I forgot the main points I wanted to help with: Every association strives to get new members Every association is there to shine the name of the brand. I know web standards. Thompsons are supposed to be a fun technical exercise. My career was tech. I don't lecture anyone here about Thompsons. Why are you lecturing someone about tech? This by technology standards, there is no "workaround" for this problem. I don't care where you posted information, it is in the wrong place. There is no disputing that. Also, you seem to forget that shining the Thompson brand is a pretty big deal, in fact that what associations are for in every industry. There is no magic wand except your anger that makes Thompson the one industry that does not need URLs that resolve to websites. I'm tired of playing along when no professional would do it this way, and certainly not publicly shame someone who had a problem finding the information that.......you guessed it, should be on the industry website. It's a matter of pride by the way. Your industry can't keep a website up? Don't act like you are in any way put out by what Virginia said. I've volunteered all over my community and the web. That falls on deaf ears, and it's not VIrginia's concern. I'll refer to my inbox to see how many calls for tech assistance I have.....exactly 0. So how many people were on the call out list when there was trouble? Also 0. Do not make the volunteer defense, it's hollow every time I hear it. The industries I've worked in, function, and rely on volunteers. Whole websites, software suites and the Linux kernel is done by volunteers. If your phone explodes, the excuse that a volunteer wrote the code won't cut it. That's why standards exist. And this industry has chosen not to follow them. I was a network administrator, I taught cybersecurity and I worked in the industry. If the two main voices of an association are down, but definition there is a serious problem. There is no workaround. In every industry, heads would roll. No industry would accept losing one member and that there was not face of an industry. Posting miscellaneous stuff here makes no difference. The accepted standard, is there is no workaround to this problem. The only accepted solution by the rest of the world is to restore service. Any administrator would immediately stop you when you said relevant information was found on machinegunboards.com What about everywhere else, have you posted this information on every website? In the tech world we don't care about this or that. In this case, the standard is that the official TATA and TCA websites actually resolve to a webpage. Information posted here is irrelevant. And someone pointing out the problem with the arrangement here, kind of makes the point. This guy said if he was here longer he could figure it out. But believe it or not, I do not know where the information is either. I just knew better than post a message. The salient point is that this workaround does not meet any accepted standard to disseminating information properly found on a different domain. How was I to know you are spokesman for TCA/TATA who is personally offended by me? The answer is that I can't. This is not even a kludge, it is simply wrong. Not acknowledging that there is a problem....well that guarantees you won't fix it. Suppressing someone questioning it won't bring you closer to a solution that isn't laughable to someone in the tech industry. In short, you have found a way to defend an undefendable standard, instead of marshalling the resources to fix it. The effort you put into suppressing members is actually more than the effort by a professional to fix it. Every person on this board with tech experience knows this situation would be unacceptable in any industry, gaslighting us does not get the Thompson name any shinier. A functioning association shines the name of Thompson.
  4. The funny part is, I salvaged the site from an archive, it took some work because TCA was not on Internet Archive. It really didn't think VirginiaRifleman tried to encumber anyone and make them do anything. This is machinegunboards, and a member brought up a problem going to the main machinegun events. I don't think you can question that he is having a difficulty that is of concern to the board. And never said anyone had to do anything. If you are associated with TCA or TATA and are offended, I certainly didn't know. I would just guess VirginiaRifleman didn't either. It really sounds that there is in fact a touch problem, but it does not involve him as I do not understand your reaction. I had the files yesterday. I did not contact the board because I didn't have time to do public relations to avoid what just happened to VirginiaRifleman. From my previous experience, if I had the salvaged pages in hand, I'd get the same treatment. Assuming someone is pointing out a flaw precludes the possibility that the person has in fact arrived to help. VirginiaRifleman also is inherently helpful because he expressed difficulty getting to these events. It is in the application that the only requirement for membership in an interest in Thompsons. So my take is that it benefits the Thompson community for a new member to go to TCA/TATA. I believe VirginaRifleman said he had experience in Apache, did you just do an expulsion of a SysAdmin who offered to help for free? Bold move. We value SysAdmins where I'm from, I'd love it if they came helped me for free. Anyway, like I said, when some people speak up, they are there to help. I have the salvaged files, posting them would be trivial here, or anywhere else.
  5. I DM'd you say despite him picking up the phone for me, I realize realistically I might not get any items. So no one can make an informed decision about the shop. Because the output is the only proof it is open, or he managed to re-open. I did try to add that his age strongly influences this game, it's the one none of will bounce back from. Meaning it is very true that someone getting their items really is the only way to know if he recovered. Lots of respect for guys that fight to the end.
  6. Man, I forgot you brought this up already. I think your messages might be lost in thousands he will never get to, due the injury he describes on his homepage. I think you said his voice mail was full. I'd guess he was truly out of commission with no way to every catch up with the messages. So call him for gods sake before he's out of commission again. I'm willing to speculate because the homepage directs people to an alternate email, due to his injury. I would not be surprised if his old email has hundreds if not thousands of messages he could not handle why he was out of commission. In that event, his only strategy might have been to create and new email and start from scratch, but that assumes a customer like you sends a new message to the new address. Your original message could be buried with thousands he will never see. I do pay attention when the machinist was machining in 1975. My morbid observation was "see him now or see him never". When something like this happens I do take advanced age into consideration when deciding what to do. And for me that's no disrespect of the elderly, I am very aware that if I want their work, I better hip hop and get on their list and it might be too late.

  8. I don't know how well he delivers as a vendor. I placed an order last night. Tom is sufficiently noteworthy though I'm happy to place an order with him. Also, Tom will machine a later paddle into a 1921 version. I was going to send him a paddle but didn't have a chance to search past gunparts for the paddle. I decided to go with luxury purchases, I haven't finished a 1928 build so I decided to get 1921 parts for it. I bought the dressed stock too. If he's a worthwhile vendor, I'd say meet him sooner because there won't be a later. I don't have enough time on the job to eyeball certain features, I'm making a library of images and physical artifacts. I'll pay to have an example. So yes, his parts are going on a build, but they will contribute to more accurate future builds. On the issue of parts houses, I'm inclined to try LCGMN since I believe he will deliver on everything on his site. Tom is also very clear about the wait time for getting his shop time, coupled with a wait list where your name actually comes up. Tom's straightforward approach gave me the impression it would be easy to coordinate my projects that need services or parts that he has. So I'll give him a shot. Tom is a very cool dude. He shared with me his engraving project. I now know a little about Numrich from a guy that was there.
  9. The picture below I haven't completely unpacked yet...but I think it frames the gun in the era it was in. So in 58 seconds this guy managed not to die. https://www.reddit.com/r/ukraine/comments/114ev55/pov_of_ukrainian_soldier_in_trenches/ It's been awhile since I've shot an AR and I just feel like I did not have that much control. He fired a rocket and then alternated rates of fire in SA. Then went FA....So it's like he had many rates of fire to choose from. So it is fair to say his mag did last longer than a 20 round Thompson. I don't know what kind of gun that was, I honestly didn't know people were fighting with them (I saw very little of it). I thought only airsoft guns looked like that.... I did find today the perfect picture to communicate the era it lived in. I don't necessarily encourage anyone to watch the video. But when I was retrieving it, I saw a lot of videos have been posted that are not only more horrific that earlier, but also show the Ukrainians joking around "speaking in German" now that they have their Panzers. Another video was of Ukrainians wielding the Ma Duce. Another was of Ukrainians "drifting" some type of vehicle we sent them.
  10. I didn't think to confim that I just started using some software that you just make an outline, then it accepts any form of data, pdf, video, webpage grab, anything, like this.
  11. I found some chatter on this board about parts interchangeability....and one member in 2006 asserted this: (All of the new Kahr semi-autos I've seen used M1 buttstocks.) This question has been covered so many times, be assured you can find the answer in the forum archives, or just wait for everyone to wake up this morning....
  12. Gunbroker has been running higher, I got some GIs with doors for 30 each....and I remember the price because I've seen them upwards of 80 on gunbroker. I have to get some sleep but I'll check one piece in my armory and see if it looks like a match. I remember the piece in the armory becasue the plate is too small for the Thompson stock that is either USGI or a stock made to USGI dimension. I didn't notice the substantial size difference until I had several guns lined up and was looking at like 5 butts all together...get it, I was looking at butts. If you don't care about things like doors and the like, dm me, because I put some time into solving the problem you describe.
  13. Talked to him today, ahhhh, you'll get what you ordered. Tom said he's backed up and does not give completion dates. I didn't memorize the minimum amount of time he said, but it will be awhile. Tom said the Thompson business is rockin and rolling, sounds like he's in a good business. Had a nice conversation, he has been around Thompsons and experienced some ups and downs. He will take an Auto Ordnance and rework it with a selector switch that holds open the bolt. He will also take a GI 28 lower and reuse parts from the semi 1927 in the SMG 28, so you get to brag about the GI frame...but have a semi. Sending him an ATF lettered short blank firing barrel is no problem. Altering the chamber so it does not accept .45 ACP was also not a problem. I haven't read how he cuts down the Auto Ordnance during the rework, so I surely don't know everything. The new springs go in so I guess that helps. I think Bob brought up the markings on an Auto Ordnance. Well, if your choices are a Japanese Model Gun, an Indianapolis Ordnance BFO for maybe $4000. Or to put it another way...Indianapolis Ord gives you a receiver, bolt handle, welded barrel, and that's it. And of course you can buy a full auto Thompson. So I have the choices I outlined, or I can have nothing. So if I want an actual semi or BFO in my hands, I can only choose from the options available. Where am I going to get really nice engraving on a BFO or semi-Thompson receiver? No where, because I can't make the receiver.
  14. Glad I didn't dingbat out and send it to someone as an example, ha ha. Glad you pointed it out....I have a file of reference photos...nothing fancy, it's my file so I can quickly post a response on other forums when someone just needs to know it's legit to screw something to the foregrip. Sometimes I tell em they can attach the swivel anywhere, but I want to include a photo so they know my advice is legit. Sometimes someone beats me to the punch and proclaims swivels don't go on vertical grips. When I have time I want to get some clear photos of how Thompsons were sent to the FBI....Sent to the FBI destined to live a very comfortable life in a case......So then I can send two pictures and start to show they can put stuff different places and not be 'wrong'.
  15. I made an order, I could only get 4 20 round mags at checkout. Maybe they restocked later.
