  1. Turn the gun upside-down and look just behind the front grip mount. You should see a letter S if its a Savage Gun or AOC if its a Auto-Ordnance Bridgeport Mfg. There are other ways to tell as well; AIO marks, the way the selector markings are on one line or two, the position of the US Property marks (if applicable), presence of the GEG stamp...etc.
  2. Nick... 22 Years? You had better check the batteries in your calculator! BTW I bought Nick a new suppressor for the MP5 he may inherit someday!!
  3. I was just down at the NRA, Phil Schreier told me that the TSMG books from the display are sold out. Too bad nice book. They currently have a similar book for their WWII "Arsenal of Democracy exibit".
  4. Received this email this morning When you placed the order, we gave you an estimated ship date based on the information given to us from our supplier. Unfortunately, the item below will not be available in the time frame that we anticipated, and the new expected shipping date is shown: Item: 92953-000-000 Description: NEW THOMPSON 50 RD DRUMS Expected Ship Date: 05/12/06
  5. Ohio Ordnance had PALLETS of '28 kits sitting near their table. L sights/finned barrels $550.00.
  6. As of 3/9/06 Dan still has a few '28 kits left but they are missing the buttstock assemblies. Call him for more details. Daniel Tobin 84 Rt 380 Apollo, PA. 15613 Telephone Number: 724-727-2648
  7. Perhaps you are thinking of Gordon Herigstad's HUGE book on TSMG serial numbers? Tracking down serial numbers of Colt Thompsons has been Gordon's passion for years.
  8. Michael Free of PA now owns the SS M1 002 now, as well as the T2, in 9mm, the .30 caliber carbine Thompson and the 30'06 model.
  9. Virtually all I saw were excellent, I did see a bent actuator knob, Did you get it from Dan? Give him a call, he probably will exchange it for you.
  10. I aksed Dan of Dan's Sporting Goods, which is where SG gets their Thompson part sets, and a lot of their ammo. He had no idea where the drums were coming from. He said that none of the major exporters in England have had any large supplies.
  11. I also found two of them up at Dan's, hard to say what the story is.
  12. I took the pictures LAST week, I went back yesterday and I saw a pile of part sets being shipped out, and the wooden crates were nearly empty.
  13. Kits are getting LOW, I was up at Dan's yesterday, not many '28 kits or mags left! They are going fast! I suggest getting an accessory kit if your ordering a parts set, good deal- 5 new mags, pouch, oiler, pistol belt, brass cleaning rod, etc. $109.00 vs $149.00 at SG
  14. I looked, Thats not an original Lyman Thompson sight
  15. Welcome to the board! Well the original AO guns are far less common than Savage especially tranferable ones. Savage made the vast majority of guns and parts. AO originally subcontracted with Savage to make the Thompsons, then to keep up with the demand opened their own factory. Actually many AO guns were originally built with Savage parts in them. Most Savage owners want Savage parts for spares. There are no appreciable quaility differences. But AO marked parts are rarer. There were a large number of other subcontractors too...Stevens and Remington were one of the larger ones.
  16. I new more Thompson parts like I need another EX-WIFE... BUT I gotta admit the LYMAN adjustable sights sucked me in!! BTW I asked Dan about the drums, he said they are not coming in through him. I called SG yesterday to cancel my '28 parts sets order, and I asked them about the drums. She said the 28th of February.
  17. What did I get??? I bought 4 - '28 kits yesterday and I was able to cherry pick! I had such a good time yesterday I went back today and bought; 3 of the accessory kits. I went through all of the mags approx 1,000 of them, found two Crosbys and several without markings. The rest were Seymours and AO all new in the wrap. The accessory kits are a good deal; 5- new 20-rd mags, pouch, belt, brass cleaning rod, oiler and combo tool for $109 w/ 10% off if you buy a parts set. Other companies are charging that for the mags alone. Christmas in February!
  18. I was looking though subguns.com and found the ad below. Since they were only 20 miles or so away, I called and asked if I could come up to their warehouse and handpick a few sets. The BEST part is that the kits all have the ADJUSTABLE LYMAN rear sight and finned barrels! I mentioned Sportsmans Guide and he told me that they buy the kits from him! He also mentioned that he may not be shipping them anymore of them. I met the owner Dan Tobin who is a great guy, he told me that I could look through all of the crates and to take as long as I wanted. The parts were all in seperate crates and most if not all were new or awfully close to it. 1. Most were AO manufacture 2. All had finned barrels and comps. 3. Bright "nickel" bolts. 4. There were both knurled and smooth actuators. All had milled-smooth selectors and safeties. 5. No-bolt type buttstocks. All had LYMAN rear sights. Some of the wood had minor handling dings. A few of the trigger frames had the original numbers lined out and new numbers stamped in them. But overall GREAT stuff! Mags are not included but he had a few crates of them. I suggest calling ASAP these are the last ones he has, they were shipping out kits all the while I was there. I took some pictures I'll email them to Nick so he can put them up. THE AD...posted 2.14.06 THOMPSON 1928A1 SPARE PARTS KITS. Complete minus the receiver. These have the rare LYMAN ADJUSTABLE SIGHT. Finned barrel, magazines are not included. Hand selected, excellent condition for this WWII era Tommy Gun, and the Lyman sight is a valuable bonus. $595 Contact Information Daniel Tobin 84 Rt 380 Apollo, PA. 15613 Telephone Number: 724-727-2648 http://mywebpages.comcast.net/niannamico/mgbsite/1.jpg http://mywebpages.comcast.net/niannamico/mgbsite/2.jpg http://mywebpages.comcast.net/niannamico/mgbsite/3.jpg http://mywebpages.comcast.net/niannamico/mgbsite/4.jpg http://mywebpages.comcast.net/niannamico/mgbsite/5.jpg http://mywebpages.comcast.net/niannamico/mgbsite/6.jpg http://mywebpages.comcast.net/niannamico/mgbsite/7.jpg http://mywebpages.comcast.net/niannamico/mgbsite/8.jpg http://mywebpages.comcast.net/niannamico/mgbsite/9.jpg
  19. In response to the owners of West Hurley Thompsons who are interested in reading about the history and background of these guns. I suggest my USA Submachine Guns book available from the BOOKS section of this site; http://www.machinegunbooks.com/index2.html There is a section that covers the WH M1 and 1928 guns and the WH drums. There are also two letters from the factory listing the serial numbers and the dates of manufacture. In addition there are photos of the guns, their markings and the drums. The book also includes WWII Thompsons and how they faired when tested against other foreign and domestic designs, during the Ordnance Departments quest to find a replacement for the Thompson, as well as their performance when submitted to the Ordnance dust and mud tests. See the book on this site for more info. The book has nearly 500 pages! Regards! Frank Iannamico
  20. Actually $900 was about an average price before the SG drums were advertised. The SG drums seemed to have a great effect on lowering the market price for drums, just like all of the '28 kits that came in lowered the price on those. Prior to the kits coming in a '28 kit was hard to find. I hope the SG drums show up, but if they don't, I believe that drum prices will go back up. To answer your question a LE only marked drum would almost certainly be an aftermarket drum. WH or Kahr.
  21. Someone mentioned getting a block of motel rooms for the annual shoot in Ohio. I received a letter saying there once again is another big event in town on that date. Last year I could not find a room close enough, so I drove up and back home the same day. So...is anyone going and did someone reserve a block of rooms?
  22. Who wrote the article in Gun List? HNY! Frank
