Off Topic - M3 Greasegun
Frank I. replied to Balder's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
I need to chime in here regarding Grease Guns, the M3A1 in particular. Most sources state 15,000 or so M3A1s were made. AFTER I wrote the M3 book, I discovered the 15k number was a typo in the Ordnance Signifigant Purchases Records. There were actually 85,000 (+ or- I don't have the figures in front of me) M3A1s made. The source I found the correct figures in was the Cincinniati Ordnance District files. The correct figures are in my USA Subguns Book (not a plug, but its my favorite work) -
I may have missed any current reports, any show up yet? If so; what condition; manufacturer? etc.

Pk Still Out There Someplace?
Frank I. replied to Frank I.'s topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
The problem with my PPD 40 is the threads on the reciver and endcap. It keeps coming of during firing. Great FUN gun though! I have a quick-change 9mm barrel for when 7.62x25 gets hard to get. -
PK, Need some repairs done to my Russian PPD 40. Please email me at; f.iannamicoREMOVE@comcast.net

Nice 28 On Sturm But....
Frank I. replied to jerrys's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
I have always been curious about these AO "28AC" guns. Most of the info I found was published in AT II. I have a copy of an IRS transfer form dated 1944 from AO to a Mass. PD. Most of these AO guns have the smooth barrel/L sight configuration, some have U.S. proofs, most do not. I have seen a lot of them with vertical grips. One can only guess as to the "rest of the story". Only a theory based on available information... Since few have US proofs this would indicate that they were never purchased by the Gov't. Perhaps the receivers were built up with surplus parts which by 1944 would be smooth barrels/L sights, for police sales? The verticle foregrips would have been added to give the guns the commercial look rather than the military appearence. Also most have the cross bolt stocks. All 1928 Models left the factory with "no-bolt" stocks. The x-bolt mod didn't come out until the M1A1 was in production. Only a theory based on available information... -
Place the barrel in vice...with padded jaws! Use a muffler tool with a blunt end on the receiver remenant, the striking force usually will spin the receiver right off. You may need to heat it (reciever)with a torch.

Hello, not Thompson related but... I am working on a new project dealing with the S&W Model 76 and its clones. I am currently looking for any ads/flyers regarding the Omega M760 semi-autos and the spare parts sets that were advertised. I remember seeing them, but cannot find them. I am also looking for someone who has or had an MK760 with the Fruithurst address on the magazine housing (need photo). See you at the TCA event next week! Just Got "american Thunder Ii!"
Frank I. replied to p51's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
You think that reading American Thunder II makes you want a Thompson...How do you think I felt while doing the research? ... I already have a few TSMGs so wanting another wasn't too big a concern, but I did get a number of accessories for "research purposes". When I was doing the Reising book I bought 5 of them! Of course they were considerably cheaper in 1996. Regards! Frank -
9mm Mags On Evilbay
Frank I. replied to giantpanda4's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
I forgot... There is also a UD42 9mm magazine pictured in American Thunder II, again in the magazine chapter, it is posed next to a 20-round Thompson mag. There was also a .45 caliber UD42 it was called the High Standard Gun. It preceded the UD42 and was tested by the Ordnance Dept. It faired very well. The H.S. gun used Thompson mags. The 9mm UD42 is a sweet piece, fast cyclic rate and VERY accurate in F/A. The gun is machined steel and heavy. Designed by High Standard, manufactured by Marlin, marketed by United Defense. The entire story is in the USA Submachine Gun Book. There is a color photo of a UD42 on the cover of the book. -
9mm Mags On Evilbay
Frank I. replied to giantpanda4's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
FYI, The double 40-round UD 42 mags will not work in a Thompson. The front mag hits the receiver. The mag offset is 3/4" it ALMOST fits but not quite. As mentioned the single UD mag fits perfectly. There was a 40-round double inverted .45 Thompson magazine too. There is a photo of it in the magazine chapter of American Thunder II. -
9mm Mags On Evilbay
Frank I. replied to giantpanda4's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
The UD42 40-round mags are just two 20 rounders attached back to back. They are actually quite rare. I got several of them with my UD42. I have bought a lot of UD mags being offered as Thompson mags. Frank -

Another 50rd Thompson Drum 4 Sale
Frank I. replied to Frank I.'s topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
Actually...I took the drums from Phil Askew's table at the Louisville show when he was checking out the young girls. -
While digging out the drums I previously sold I found another Bridgeport. This one is also in VG condition no dents or dings, there is some VERY minor "freckiling" on the right side/top probably from someone's hands inserting the drum. This one is $925.00 plus actual S&I F.IANNAMICO@removeCOMCAST.NET

Frank I. replied to Frank I.'s topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
One drum tenativly sold... ONE left, nice drums, I bought these from a fellow in AZ who had them stored for 40 years. Frank -
I have two WWII era Bridgeport 50 round Thompson drums for sale. Both are in very nice condition w/ original finish (flat black outside, dull blue inside) no dents. While the Bridgeport drums are not especially rare, they are very well made and reliable. Argueably the best of the WWII drums. The drums are $975.00 each plus actual UPS shipping and insurance.
