  1. For me it's simply the best looking firearm on the planet. Ranks right along side a P51 , A boat tail Auburn roadster or a Chris Craft barrel back speedboat. A true , no questions asked Classic!
  2. If they're still available Dan I'll take them. E-,mail on it's way.
  3. For some odd reason all the light weight (Aluminum) lowers from Numrich have the SA frame cut out/step. Now it seems that although this particular example has the light weight '28 lower it's receiver does not have the step in it (which leaves the gap) This suggests to me it's really a WH '28 receiver and not an A5 . I hope that makes sense . I'm confused too as to why the guy would call this an A5 when the receiver (not so clearly) states "Model 1928" and "Thompson submachine gun" on the side .
  4. Thanks for the sitrep on your 22 conversion. I've got one in my Uzi from Vector and like it too but my Uzi reciever is registered for 22/45/9mm . So I'm wondering since my form 4 says that my '28 is only 45 cal and not any other caliber, is this a gray area or what's the legality of a conversion of a FA weapon registered in only one caliber ? I'm thinking because it's an insert it's not an issue is that the case ? Anyone know ? Oh and is Cieners std conversion kit the thing to buy or should I spring for his delux version ? Bill
  5. Or you could save $100 and go hereNumrich gunparts
  6. Sorry to hear you had to cut your trigger but glad you were suscessful ! One question though you were just joking right ,about thinking of losing the WH receiver to "save the Savage lower" ? I mean even if all the parts in the lower were for some strange reason welded together it would still be at least twenty times less expensive to mill off all of the lower to save a transferable WH receiver And as far as i know Savage lowers in very good shape are readily available . Sorry to state the obvious, if you were kidding.
  7. Been there , done that ! Not with a F/A tommy but with an A5 . I (unfortunatley removed the pivot plate too ) My A5 locked up just as your WH did and after four months at Kahr (during which time nothing happened) I finally told them to ship it back to me and I'd do it myself. The bottom line was (according to the techs at Kahr) I would have to cut the trigger at the top most portion of the lower frame and then pull the trigger piecies out the bottom of the frame. This would allow the other parts to fall and free up the bolt so that the gun could be disassembled. Kahr couldn't do it , or so they said , because their top tech was out on extended sick leave! Anyway it's easy to do , but be careful not to scratch the frame and of course you'll need a new trigger. After I did that the A5 worked but still had function issues so PK made it all better (thanks again PK) Of course you could send it to PK and forget about doing it yourself.
  8. PK Thanks for the carification . I 'll take my Westy down tonight to see if the pilot is a brazed unit.
  9. Thanks Phil , no there is nothing unusual about my WH , so I will change out to the one pc old style pilot. As far as my bird goes ,it's funny I think of a Navion kinda like a Thompson ; There are lighter , faster and newer machines available for sure but (to me at least) None has all the history or qualities of a Navion (or a Thompson ).
  10. Well seems like ( from reading the "Asmodeous's " thread and Philohio's last post ) that I should change the buffer pilot to the Savage unit. but will kinking be a concern during shooting ?
  11. Hello all I'm relatively new to the board (been lurking awhile though) . I've been reading the questions about buffer pilots with respect to the two peice pilot (which is std in the WH '28?) and the original one pc unit which does not go out the rear of the receiver but does have a potential kink problem( I think?). So I have to ask , is kinking of the recoil spring a real problem in an old "28s with the one piece pilot ? Another poster (reenactor ) actually wants the two piece pilot but then there is a breakage issue with those? Wow I'm confused. Which pilot is really better/safer for use in my WH '28 etc ? I've changes out all the other internals for WW2 Savage/AO parts but have left the WH pilot since it's easier to change. Oh and the name's Bill , I'm from NH and "Nav4 " is the old designator for my aircraft a Navion . Thanks
  12. Just a follow up - I bought the A5 today anyway. I bought it basically to round out my 1927 semi -auto Thompson collection ; I've got an A1 ( Kahr, which I'm not impressed with) an A3 22cal West Hurley which I do like ,cause it runs well and has a nice butt stock and now this A5 pistol. Well the followup question I have is this : With respect to the A5 is there anything that can be done to the barrel , such as adding a Cutts device or better yet adding a modified device similar to the Project X compensator that was added over the barrel but was flush with the end hence seeming to make it shorter? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  13. Well I could finally do a search ( for some reason the search function wouldn't work for me last night) and I found out the answer. Just as I suspected It can't be done until the receiver is registered as an AOW with the ATF. I'm glad I found this board before I did something stupid!
  14. Hi All. This is my first post here and it's a question. On the SA pistol that was produced in the '80s by AO . I believe it was a 1927 A5 and marked as a pistol on the receiver . I'm interested in buying one but only if the stock barrel which I recall was 13" or maybe 131/2" can be changed to the 101/2" barrel with the Cutts compensator. Is this something that can be legally done? I'm aware that this pistol is " exempted" if that's the right word from the under 50oz rule and wonder if any mods such as a shorter barrel would void the exemption. It seems to me reasonable thing to beable to do since any regular pistol can have virtually any barrel shorter than 16" , but this is not a regular case I guess. Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA
