I think the M14 is a fine rifle. I went thru basic training with the M1 (1962). When I arrived in Korea the issue rifle was the M14. The squad AR man had the selector, no one else had the selector. I was a bit of a gun nut even at 18. I figured out that if the selector block was removed from the receiver , the little pin filed off, rotated the bloch 180 degrees and reassembled, the rifle would shoot FA only. One day the tank platoon was headed for the range to practise with the M3 and 1911. I ask the LT if I could accompany them with my M14. Permission was granted. I moved to the far left side of the range and commenced firing. Halfway thru the second mag I became aware of people behind me. When I looked behind me i saw the LT and several buck sgt's. The Lt asked me, a pvt, for permission to shoot my rifle.To make a long story short the Lt sent a sgt back for more 308 ammo. A great time was had by all. Now I have a SA M1a and its a nice rifle, Jim C

Its a RockOla receiver with the rear sight installed backwards. Fed Ord was either the importer or the remanufacturer of the RockOla receiver. The deep pitting makes me worry that welding was involved. Jim C

johnny, If you live near a gunsmith with a small lathe, he could make one out of drill rod in a few minutes. Jimc

Dave, If you have a local gunsmith, non nfa, who is willing to blue while you wait , then you always retain possession. JimC

Beginner, Based on what you stated I vote for #5, the ejector. Its also one of the cheaper parts to replace.. Keep us informed, Jim C

Nice, thanks for posting. Is anyone here old enough to remember the original DRAGNET episode where Joe Friday uses a tommy to shoot a bad guy??? I have been unable to find and post, but I do remember several things that a 12 year old wouldn't remember. The gun had a vertical forend. Joe had to stop at the local store to buy 45 ammo. Joe shot from the hip. Joe fired a rather long burst, put most of the burst in the house behind the bad guy. Anyone??? Jim C

Witten, I'll leave it to others to comment on the ATF problems. If I was in your situation , I'd put the housing in the Iver johnson when out blasting and put it in a hand stamped Inland when showing it off to fellow collectors. Good luck, Jim C

I think the licence plate says 1956, so I suspect the guy on the right has a M1 carbine, with 30 rd mag. I would guess forend is missing on the tommy. Jim C

Jojeep, I consider the spring tube carbines a poor choice for conversion to M2. Winchester, Rock-Ola and Quality all made spring tube carbines early on ? They were not as strong as the later solid drill thru receivers. Sometimes a crack would develop at the slide lock hole. I would recommend not buying this carbine. Jim C

68coupe, Your "1918 rifle case meant for the Springfield '03" might actually be for the M1918 BAR. Lets see a photo. I don't think the US ever had a 03 SPFD case, only an action cover. Jim C
