  1. I suggested one that was convertible from Sten to 76 to Uzi. I'd buy that for sure.
  2. TD is 'Da Man' when it comes to FOIA requests. He has helped me in several requests that were returned within a relatively short time.
  3. Several years ago I was contacted by a local PD who asked for my assistance in selling a 1928A1 Thompson in their inventory. First question was what form was it on. Of course they had no idea nor did they have the form. After they contacted the ATF, they were assured by them the gun could indeed be sold. Upon inspection it had obvious import marks and again I questioned it's status. After another inquiry by them , they again were told it was indeed transferable. I found a buyer for them and paperwork was submitted. You guessed it, it wasn't transferable and the forms were denied. If it has import marks, my money is on 'it's not transferable.' It cost the City $300 to find out what I told them up front. Buyer and Seller beware.
  4. Hans, TCA (May?) and TATA (August) shows are in Ohio if you were referring to MG shoots or opportunities. If you meant museums, the National Musuem of the U S Air Force is in Riverside ( near Dayton) Ohio. Great military exhibits and very historical aircraft. Entry is free and open 364 days of the year. Give yourself at least a full day, two would be better.
  5. I agree with got Uzi, why fret over the trigger frame. Buy a replacement, which are available, and then move on. If the receiver is solid and intact as it appears (from whatever source) it has the potential of being an inexpensive shooter. Use the welded trigger frame on a display piece or sell as such. Still perplexed on why cut/reweld a trigger frame. 🤔
  6. I'm curious on how tight the stock is. Does it have the omnipresent wobble we are all used to? I looked at a parts kit this weekend and it had what appeared to be an unissued lower with a stock that was so tight it was difficult to deploy. I wonder if this was one of the above 'new' stocks.
  7. This thread motivated me to re-look at the MP40 that had the bent frame. I remember after having it straightened the grip panels fit much better than they do today. I ended up taking the grips off and discovered they had bowed inward over the years. The ends of the screw were no longer flush, stuck out and uncomfortable to grip. I hit it very very lightly with a heat gun and with a bit of assistance, they went back to their original shape. They now fit as well as the grips shown above. I was amazed how pliable/soft they became with minimal heat. I'm assuming the grips got hot sitting in the sun during a summer shoot.
  8. I had a nearly identical situation 10+ years involving an Erb MP40. I had purchased from a reputable out of state dealer ( I thought) and the numerous pictures looked great, grips matched etc. Upon taking delivery the grips were on the gun but didn't fit; much like the OP's. The dealer said it was fine when it left his shop, claimed no knowledge saying it must have happened during shipment. My local dealer was a friend and had retained the shipping cartons. There was no sign of damage. The out of state dealer refused to offer a solution. The fix, mostly, was to have the frame bent to nearly match the grip positioning. This was done free of charge by a local dealer/manufacturer I had never dealt with. He did it while I waited and he was the true definition of Reputable. Hopefully a slight frame bending will correct yours. Mine was so bad it couldn't be shot. Unfortunately, the out of state dealer I used is still in business. Good luck, they are great shooters.
  9. Maybe a recreation of this demo is needed at the next TATA or TCA event. 😉
  10. Get one (or more) of each. I agree, leave as-is. Altered Thompsons seem to have bad mojo. I supplied a few FA guns for a memorial fund-raising shoot this past Sunday that included a 28A1 w/vertical grip. Only brought 20 rd mags and drums as a 30 rd mag, in my mind, is out of place with vertical grips.
  11. Congratulations John and Diana !! You did it with style. Cheers !!!
  12. Interesting on the 42 rounds. The Russian repack ammo I have in oblong spam cans are repacked into 42 round flimsy paper boxes. When I opened one of the cans I was confused by that number as well.
  13. Get a good WH and you will be happy at a (hopefully) better price point. WW2 guns typically have the same result but at a higher cost. . Collectible Thompsons (Colts mostly) are just that 'collectible' and seldom shooters. My Colts never get shot, sad I know, but true. My WH's and WW2 guns fill that desire. With a PK hybrid buffer system and 21 internals you can change the configuration(s) to your wants for a day of shooting without taking a risk of changing the status from Collectible to Shooter with a squib or part breakage. Agree with the all the others who "know their stuff", research and purchase wisely. It'll be time well spent. Enjoy the journey.
  14. Like Full Auto 45 bore snake for me over the past 20 yrs. Last week I spent an hour trying to get clean patches thru a 28A1. Bore looked super shiny before, during and after. I never got one clean patch or even close to it with bore brush and Hoppe's. Gun never lost it's accuracy so..........to each their own.
  15. Glad the new recoil spring helped. Never had another issue with mine after replacing with a USGI spring. Not discounting the chamber issues brought up by others , I was fortunate to solve my issues easily and inexpensively. At some point, I replaced the WH barrel with a USGI one from the Russian kits many years ago. My WH barrel was loose to begin with and merely unscrewing it made swapping out the barrels very easy.
  16. I had a similar issue on my WH after it sat for 10+ years in my safe. My problem was solved with a new recoil spring and it's been running great ever since. Hopefully you have the same results.
  17. Indeed another successful TATA Show and Shoot. Thanks to the Hill family for all that they do and for having all of us "leave with the same number of holes we came with." Met up with many longtime friends and met new ones. Only 51 more weeks so start planning now to go. Jack, Who you calling "old" ? Never mind, it's me. I get it !
  18. I know Got Uzi organized a tribute Thompson drum shoot for Mike Wank at TUSCO earlier this year. For those of us who were unable to attend that and are going to TATA maybe we could arrange the same during the free shoot this Saturday. RIP Mike, you are and will forever be missed.
