  1. Just figured if there was anywhere to ask this question on this site, the Sten forum might know. Its not Sten related, but Enfield related, so don't flame me too much. I am looking for a grenade cup (sometimes referred to as an "EY" cup I believe) for an SMLE. Anyone have ideas where I might be able to find one? I've been browsing all the gun sale sites but haven't been able to find one that didn't come with a gun attached. Thanks!
  2. QUOTE (PhilOhio @ Jul 17 2006, 10:39 AM)Like PK says... When you marry Kahr quality control and metallurgy with Wolf steel case ammo, synergistic things happen...but not necessarily good ones. Isn't that the truth. Well, I spoke to Tim at Kahr who assured me everything would be covered under warranty. Hopefully I can ship it off this week & I'll let you guys know the outcome.
  3. No, I have never reloaded my own ammunition. I was using Wolf 230 grain. I have to go out of town in a few minutes so I won't be able to call Kahr until tomorrow, I'll let you guys know what they say.
  4. So here's the pics. The one of the receiver is kind of hard to see, so I photoshopped in a thin straight line where the receiver used to be. You can see the jagged edge of the metal down toward the bottom. http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l201/ej25scoob/IMG_2344.jpg http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l201/ej25scoob/IMG_2343.jpg
  5. DON'T PANIC, IT'S JUST A SEMI!! Didn't want the title to give some of you guys a heart attack http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif Took my 1927 to the range today, put in an L drum and on the 5th or 6th round (firing slowly), my friend stopped me because something that wasn't a shell casing had come out of my gun and landed on his arm. Upon inspection it seems the lip of the bolt had been slightly dented in. The piece that came off the gun was a small piece of the receiver from the inside of the ejection port. I'm guessing the bolt kind of "sheared" it away because its a long and thin piece, not a huge chunk. I'll get pics for you guys soon so you can see exactly what I'm talking about. Last time I shot the gun was 2 weeks ago and it fired great, I think this happened today because the bolt was fine when I cleaned it 2 weeks ago. I don't guess there's anyway Kahr is going to warranty that is there? I don't remember their warranty policy & I'm in the process of looking for the manual that came with the gun.
  6. QUOTE (Ltcboy @ Jul 26 2005, 05:59 PM) Wasn't Quint from "Jaws" on the Indianapolis? In the movie, yeah...which is why philasteen posted that part of the script above.
  7. My weekends are full for May. Other than that, let me know what you come up with. -Matt
  8. This might be a stupid question, but was the gun already activated when you bought it or did PK do that for you? And hurry up with those pics! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif
  9. Count me in...just give me a week or so notice. Crow, don't worry...we'll have our own little semi corner. I'll bring some of my other toys to make it fun though http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif
  10. Yeah I saw the old lady. She needs to learn how to lean in to it http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/tongue.gif
  11. They had about 10 minutes dedicated to the Thompson. Lots of vintage footage, most of it I had seen on other History Channel shows that featured a Thompson. The most interesting footage (to me anyways) showed a man doing a drum dump into a barrel, but the rate of fire on his gun was very very high. It was, however, vintage footage so the sound could have been altered or messed up. I could have sworn one of the "experts" on there holding a 1928 said it was chambered in .48 caliber. I asked my wife if I was hearing right, but of course she wasn't paying attention.
  12. Please let me know if you guys plan a shoot, I'd love to drive up for the weekend. Plus, it would be a great excuse for me to visit the family. If for some reason you can't secure a shooting spot, I might be able to talk my uncle into letting us use the family farm out in Piney Flats. This is probably not likely, but I can always ask. We've got about 100 acres and a decent shooting backdrop, I usually let go with my '27 and no one has ever complained.
  13. TNKen, are you sure Mark Scott is in Chattanooga? If you're sure, that's one big coincidence then. My cousin in TN has the same name and is a Class 3 dealer, but he's up near Johnson City.
  14. The reason I ask is I'm about to start working for this particular department. A friend of mine who has worked there for years knew I was into Thompsons & told me about the ones the dept still had sitting in storage. At the time, he didn't know what kind, he just said they were in cases. I can't ask him any more info now because he's in Iraq. Just thought it might be worth looking into once I join up. Plus, the chief is pretty cool and has known me for a while.
  15. Can any PD that still has a thompson decide to sell them to the public, or no? And assuming that they can be bought by the public, the process is pretty much the same as buying any other class 3 firearm?
  16. Wow...thompsons I could actually afford, at least those 28's and M1's. I'm suprised it was even up 5 minutes at those prices.
  17. Can't remember if it was on Wed. or last night, but the mythbusters on Discovery channel were testing to see if you could really "blow someone off their feet" with a gun, like they do in the movies anyways. They got a hog carcass and hung it up on this contraption that was supposed to release when it was hit hard enough, thus "blowing it away". I was sick in bed watching this, so I don't remember the first gun they used but it was a hand gun. With no movement from the carcass, they decided to step it up a bit and pulled out an M1A1 tommy. They fired a few single shots but still nothing, so they pulled out a .44 magnum. Still with no results, they then got an M16, the tommy, and an MP5 variant and went full auto with all 3 at the same time. Nothing but lots of noise, but the carcass did bump arpund a little. At that point I passed out from the medication I was taking (damn flu!) so I didn't get to see if they actually blew anything away.
  18. I would oppose a split for the following reason. A lot of the FA guys have lots and lots of knowledge. If a split was made, would they take the time to browse the semi section and answer questions they had knowledge about? And it should work in vice versa...who knows, some guy out there with a Kahr 1927 might know the answer to the hardest of FA Thompson question, but he'll never be able to share the answer because he only browses the semi section cause that's what he owns. Oh yeah, and I hope the question I posted last night about my 1927 wasn't the breaking point to do this poll http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif
  19. Yeah, trying to make it work so I can go. I've never been before, and if its half as much fun as Wayne's shoots it should be a blast.
  20. Looks like I was one of the fortunate ones with a 1927 that worked, at least until this weekend. After 5 years of no problems something was bound to happen. Went to the range this weekend and the bolt would lock back in the open position after every round fired. Tried a stick mag & a drum, it would lock using both. I verified that it wasn't the locking catch for the magazine that was hanging it up. I disassembled the gun tonight and everything was right where it was supposed to be. I changed the mag catch out a few weeks ago so I thought I might have put the gun back together wrong http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif but I didn't. Is there anything else internally that could cause the problem? What about the disconector? What exactly does that thing do?
  21. So if I'm nice, are you gonna let me shoot this one at the next BBQ shoot? http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif
  22. I bought a pre-Kahr AO 1911 3 years ago at a gun show for $200, spent 20 minutes of my time on it with a dremel smoothing out the feed ramp, and its worked perfect since then. Shoots much better than my buddy's Springfield. However, after 5 years of having a good 1927, it started giving me problems at the range this past weekend. Bolt locks back after every single round fired. I'm gonna take her apart in an hour or so and see what's up.
  23. Oh nevermind...I thought that was the actual Metallica video... http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif
  24. Wow, I never thought about it or I would have posted that video a long time ago...I saw Metallica play it live a few years ago and they had a stage prop that looked like a firing Thompson.
  25. Of course you're entitled to your own opinion Ron, but people on a very tight budget like myself think its a deal to get the new drums at this price...even if I have to pay a little extra to get the drum worked on (which I don't, I tried my new drum today and it worked fine) it still beats paying $600 or however much Bridgeport etc. drums are going for these days.
