  1. nice gun! I have a savage built M1a1 with serial number 5226xx. it appears that the receiver was altered at some point in its life. either someone welded over the "a1" or someone altered the serial number...the only real way would be to x-ray the receiver. Also, the top is really smooth where it should have rough milling marks, the paddle selectors are from a colt, to be a correct M1 it shouldn't have the ears on the sights and shouldn't have a cross drilled stock. Looks like a great shooter gun, congrats Bryan
  2. Thanks arthur...I am just extremely conservatively rating it...is may be closer to 85%-90%...21 smoker would be a better judge. Going to take pictures of it on tuesday. The FBI case is original and the L drum has only 2 patent dates (both in 1920 i think) I would be trying to trade my amnesty registered m1a1 on it...good move or no?
  3. Thanks, 21 smoker! It was really nice meeting you and putting a name with a face. Also, you have an AWESOME collection. I think that 21 is out of my price range...but we'll see! I figure there is no time like the present to buy a MG...on my first purchase i put it off until the price was a few thousand higher...never will i procrastinate again!!
  4. Approximately how much is colt thompson 21a serial 3xx worth. it is in approximately 80% condition with all original parts and numbers matching Has an FBI case and NY, NY L drum
  5. good score. My M1a1 is in that range also...5226xx. Looks like fresh parkerized finish from what i can tell on those pictures...but did well to preserve markings I am in TN also maybe we can doa side-by-side comparison when you get it Mine is amnesty registered WW2 bringback...it has no serial number on the lower and the exact same markings (minus the A1 crossed out)
  6. Holy Crap! I need to start a service where i rent out my C3 stuff. I think some of those guys that charge 25-30 dollars for ONE magazine are on crack. I guess you are "risking" a 5-figure weapon when you let someone shoot it. But it would not take long at those prices to be able to justify it I have 2 HK autosears...so if i rented my MP5, HK33, or G3 out for an average of $50 per person it would only take 200 rentals to reach replacement value (plus whatever profit you make on ammo) I am sure my F/A AK would be a big hit along with the UZI and M16. Wonder if it is legal to rento out a transferable (as long as i am there)
  7. Hey SGT There is an excellent MG friendly range in chattanooga. If you cone down some weekend i will let you shoot my thompson so maybe the time will seem to pass a little quicker!! PM me bdenardo@comcast.net
  8. Darklightimagery Here is the machining marks on top of the receiver and what the rivets should look like i am also disturbed about the lack of imspector stamps on the gun and lack of machining marks. This gun is consitent with a Lend-lease gun yet has no brit marks either...also lack of rebuild armory marks?? Could be a re-weld in the ejection port area?
  9. darklight imagery Here is my LHS receiver with serial number and the thompson SMG marks for comparison
  10. First off i would like to thank your son for serving in the armed forces Your son has several options. 1. If the firearm is going to be transfered to himself at your address he can keep it at your house as long as he has sole access to it (ie under lock and key not to be touched by you)...or he can form a corporation with him as pres, you as vice pres and both of you can have access to it at your home 2. He can register it with MPs and store it in the armory. The armory will accept it with a valid Form 4 or 5 and a 5320.20 autorizing it to be in that state (if outside of the state registered in) 3. He can store it in a safe deposit box or an FFL dealers vault that he has sole access to. The dealer would charge a fee for storage...and better be someone that he can trust Any more questions please feel free to contact me directly Bryan bdenardo@comcast.net
  11. I finally went back to the veterans house armed with the M1A1 and Franks book. I asked the veteran (Mr. Farmer) what happened to the original lower...he said that gun is as i got it in '43. i asked are you sure...according to this book it should have a lower with different attributes such as pin selectors and a cross drilled stock. That is when he realized "oh yeah...i like those 28 selectors better than the pins." "I traded with my buddy Conner...because i was used to the 28 selectors and i messed up my stock" It is a good explanation but i am disappointed that it isn't "original"...the color between upper and lower (both original finish) match extremely well...so i guess it is "original" in the sense that they are era correct and have personality since it was wartime practice Oh well...it works good! http://www.darklightimagery.net/thompson/bryan/LHS%20lower.jpg
  12. Incomplete, The marines definitely changed my life. I had good experiences as well as A LOT of bad. My only advice is to either do something you enjoy or do something that you can use in the "real world" At any rate...Good luck...and Semper Fi Bryan
  13. Damnit!! Am i the youngest member of this board...i feel outclassed!...well mayby not outclassed...but definitely out-aged! http://www.darklightimagery.net/thompson/bryan/bullet%20close.jpg
  14. Bryan - 24yrs old White Male US Navy Officer - Nuclear Engineer Chattanooga, Tennessee WW2 M1A1, M-2 Carbine, M16, AK47, UZI, MP5, HK33, G3 No money or Hobbies due to my NFA addiction!! No Wife No Kids (that i know of) Looking for a WW2 1928A1...preferably Savage built
  15. I picked up the thompson saturday, shot it sunday. It did not miss a beat...i am extremely happy with it!! I stripped it down for familiarity and to detail clean it last night and discovered that every part in the lower is stamped AOC with excetion of the selectors. Oddly enough i went to the vet's house yesterday and found that his wife had been admitted to the hospital and does not look good...so i won't bother him with this stuff now I agree that it was switched in 1943 at some field armory. The gun has its original finish and wear is consistant throughout...si i have no doubt it has been on there all of its life. The vet was wounded in late 1943 and apparenly took it home with him in 1944 claiming it never left his posession. I just want the savage lower to have a consistant gon. everything in the upper is "S" marked...and everything in the lower is AOC marked...just enough to irritate me!
  16. I need an excellent condition savage built M1A1 lower for my Amnesty registered M1A1. Must have all savage internals, cross drilled stock, bar style selectors, and the FULL AUTO on two lines Have an EXCELLENT AOC lower with paddle selectors, non cross drilled stock, and FULL AUTO on one line for possible trade, but would rather buy outright Let me know what you have Bryan bdenardo@comcast.net
  17. What does a shamrock mean? What does a "P" mean? What does a "G" mean? only marks i see on the lower
  18. What a nice guy!!! He is picking up the shipping on a 6 ounce piece of sheet metal! I might have to change my mind about Nick! in all honesty, he is a super guy with one of the nicest collections in the US. I strongly recommend Nick to any collector who wants a gun...if price is not an issue
  19. if you don't mind sharing...how much did the firing pins cost you? i know that nick has "collector" prices on most of his stuff...i bought a FA AK47 from him last year
  20. Here is my "Euro trash" theme. German HK91, German HK93, German HK94 converted to MP5 by S&H Arms. Also have an additional sear pack to split between the 91 and 93 as the MP5 is always in use so one is dedicated to it! My "other" is a vector UZI...just cool
  21. Here is my Vietnam collection. Norinco underfolder converted to select-fire by Alltech in AZ. Olympic receiver converted to M16 by small Arms Weaponry
  22. Here is my World War 2 / Korean conflict theme. Saginaw Carbine converted to M2 by RIA. GI Bringback Amnesty registered Savage built M1A1 (bridgeport) All original including finish!
  23. That is true, the examiner is assigned based upon the sellers last name. To some extent it does depend on who you are...if you call up the examiner and get chummy with him or her or you have alot of previous transfers sometimes they can use old fingerprint cards or do a cursory approval Good luck Range report in a few hours!
  24. I posted pictures a few days ago...you will see them down the board a little bit Here is another one. I don't like ot complain about fast transfers...this one went though fast, but i have another HK autosear that has been "pending" for 65 days now. Win some, lose some
