When they say that the new trust rules are not retroactive, does this mean that if I have an existing trust before July 13 2016, there is nothing new I need to do to be in compliance. It isn't until I purchase another NFA firearm that I have all my trustees and myself submit background check, fingerprints, etc., for each new firearm brought under the trust. Did I understand this correctly? Thanks

Is anyone up on the new proposed NFA trust regs. It looks very troubling. The Department of Justice (ATF) has proposed a rule change which, if passed, will affect all gun trusts and corporations which seek to acquire NFA items after the effective date of the change. The rule, once effective, would require CLEO signoffs on Form 1’s and Form 4’s by trusts and corporations and also fingerprint cards, photos and background checks for all trustees and responsible officers. Do you suppose this is a done deal? I'm not sure I want to keep my trust if I have to bother all my trustees every time I want to purchase a new NFA firearm. This is just one more reason to strongly dislike this President.

For those knowledgeable about NFA Trusts, I have a question for you. I just created my NFA trust using a law firm in TN. I have transferred a SBR semi Thompson into the trust. It was previously built and registered on a form 1 in 2003, but recently transferred into the trust on a form 4. My lawyer felt that I should re-engrave the barrel with the trust name. However, that doesn't make sense to me, since I am not making a new firearm, but am only transferring one into the trust. Do you think that this question needs to be pursued further, by contacting the BATFE? Thanks
