GI Jive, you may have resolved this some time ago, but here are some COMBAT! photos of Vic Morrow with a wooden TSMG. Yes black high gloss paint will reflect light. Vic Morrow with real TSMG. Note the detail of the mag, housing and lettering on TSMG. Another "real" TSMG photo. Likewise note mag housing, and holes in mags. Third "real" TSMG. In this photo, look at detail of Magazine, Housing, and sling swivel, Now the infamous Wooden TSMG. Looks like a fake "wooden" reciever andl lower. Note the sling swivel placement, and type. Not original, nor in correct location. Note the Magazine. square block of wood with no detail. no witness holes in mag. Real TSMG again Wooden TSMG with very obvious misplaced ejection port. Y'all may have nailed this before, but here are some good shots that should confirm the "gun is too heavy" lore... S/Fi, Sandman1957

I have a bunch of Thompson mags and dont shoot often enough to justify having so many. I have plenty more and you could probably convince me to let more to as well... Thanks everyone Rob

I acquired this oilier in the lot I purchased and all the black paint has flaked off so I ended up cleaning it all off as it was just getting all over the place. It looks to be a Brass Oiler under the paint. Do you guys think this is real / authentic to the time period of the 1921? I am learning about these guns and have some information on these oilers, but not quite sure as I am not able to locate any markings on it from what I have read on this forum. Thank you guys!

Hey everyone! I'm relatively new to this community but just wanted to share a build Dan Block put together for me. So here it is! This rifle started life as a standard Kahr 1927A1 and Dan made it into something else. Words cant even say how much of an amazing job he did. When I first contacted Dan, he told me he had a waiting list. I told him to add me to it and it would be perfect, as at the time I was deployed and I could send it off to him when I got back. Well, Dan being the great guy he is told me to have my FFL send it to him and that he wanted to get it done for me to have when I got back state side. He did just that. Heres what I had Dan do: -Install Green mountain barrel and pin/weld compensator to make it 16 inches -New stock set including both horizontal and vertical grips -GI magazine catch modification -Bolt hold back modification (I couldnt find any 1928/21 style rocker pivots in stock so went with M1A1 style) -SBR (hope to eventually do this) and 1921 style engravings -Ez disassembly milling -Howell Ez pull springs install -Detachable stock adapter and probably a few other things I forget off the top of my head. Dan did an amazing job and is such a great guy as all of you already know. This community is amazing and I couldn't be any happier! Now I just need a nice case for her

Hello everyone, I was looking to ease my mind on a particular TSMG that I was looking to add to my collection. I am more of a shotgun collector, but this item caught my attention, that would make a good candidate to add to my collection. There were a few things that I wasn't convinced about, but after my pending membership was approved, I was able to find more information on the forum. Now only one question remains. If you look at the left side of the receiver, it states the "model of 1928". The thing that I noticed is that the part "of 1928" is recessed. It almost looks like part of the model year was milled down to add another designation. Is this common in other firearms, or was the designation rolled in with to much force? This may be a stupid question, but hey, my knowledge is more with the shotguns. As you can see in the pictures, further markings are similar to the guns that have been discussed before within the same 41.000 range of serial numbers. I forgot to take more pictures than the ones attached.

Hello everyone! I spent a little time making small statistics from the data that I could find in various sources. This is not a direct comparison of better / worse, no, just a few numbers. I also plan to make comparisons with other SMGs. If anyone has additions or comments, write.

With David's permission, I am listing this Colt Thompson butt stock for sale. Wood is dark with original finish and has visible anchor. However, the number on the butt plate does not match the number stamped into the butt of the stock. Finally, the stock has been stamped "SPD 50" on the left side. I believe this stock has been discussed on the board before; please see the link below. Price is $2,800. PM me with questions. Thanks for looking. http://www.machinegu...l=&fromsearch=1

Display 1928a1 for sale at $1395 shipped I have that complete lower and it looks so minty internally. Fellow members, A few years ago I bought a display 28a1 with a lower whose serial is AO68939.. I probably will sell it but I thought how great it would be to reunite the lower it with someone who ones that serialized upper. Maybe TD might know.

Put this together over the last 6 months as a 'tribute'to those lawless times in 1920s & 30s America. Any gangster worth his salt would want his Thompson locked and loaded and ready to go so a suitcase fitted the bill perfectly with just the buttstock unattached although I did start off with a violin case but the collection quickly out grew it. Had to 'make do' with a Savage 1942 produced 1928A1,alas that's all the budget would allow for but it's a Thompson never the less. Now all I need to finish the job is a BAR and a Smith & Wesson 38 I reckon $$$$

Hello everybody! Does anyone have information about using supressor with Thompson Gun? I know there was a Commando Model 1942 (SOE/OSS), and Model 1919 No. 2 also had a thread on the barrel for a supressor. The catalog A.O. also has a description of accessories for Tommygun, there is Maxim Silencer. I would be glad if someone shares the information. Thank!

Hello everybody! There is a photo: A raid of British commandos in Norway on the island of Vaagso, December 27, 1941. SMG is interesting for the soldier on the left. The length of the barrel looks larger. There is also Thompson with a long barrel on the cover of a 1978 book. Is this some kind of equipment? Thank!

I'm aware that British, Australian, New Zealand and possibly Canada all used foregrips on their TSMG's (though not all of them). Literally every photo or film I've ever seen of US troops in WW2 has their TSMG's with the normal horizontal grip. Are there ANY photos of this? And if not, is there any specific reason why?

Fellow members it becomes a quandry whether to sell these high end collectibles in a soft market on Gunbroker, Various Boards or use auction houses. I received a terrific e mail from John Keene of Morphy's on this very topic and I received permission from Dalbert to post this for all to read I have come to know John Keene of Morphys over the last few years and have met him personally twice. I have found him to be very honest as well as extremely knowledgeable of every class 3 machinegun. I trust him implicitly. He has steered me toward some and away from others. His credibility is valuable to me. Mr Keene is a Master SGT US Army Retired and Currently is the NFA Specialist for Morphys Auctions. His E mail to me of recent is so well spoken!! Here it is: "Haris You are outstanding at finding good guns out on the internet. I would have liked to bring these guns to auction, but also cannot possibly know what the backstory is behind them. Although I can undoubtedly get better exposure and almost always more money than the gun boards, if the guns have some “issue”, or are tube guns, I am always as clear and honest about the description of the guns as possible, and sometimes shall we say, that is not what the consignor is looking for. Each man is their own sovereign, and if they want to sell some guns privately, and some through us, that is their personal choice. Maybe they got more, likely they got less, but they are free to choose. As I said, when a gun has an “issue” sometimes people don’t want it to have the public exposure and light that Morphy’s shines on it. The other unfortunate and very likely possibility that is a common misconception that many people fall into is, that they figure they will put the gun out on the internet at a high price, and then after months of exposure, figure they will give the auction house a chance to sell it. What they are actually doing is hurting their chances of getting the most money. Once a gun is exposed with a price, and it does not sell, when it appears later in auction, potential buyers who noticed it on the internet before realize that it did not sell on the boards, and their perception is that it is not worth the former asking price, or otherwise there must be something “wrong” with it. Conversely, if a gun surfaces on the boards at a “good” price and is snapped up immediately, it is very likely we could have gotten more for the owner through the competitive auction process. I could quote many, many examples where a consignor bought NFA guns through either the gun boards or from a dealer and made a heap of money consigning through me to auction. I have a couple of guys who fund their entire personal machine gun collections this way, and are consigning every auction. We kinda joke about it between each other. They are always reasonable about reserves . Because I consistently have made them significantly more money then they could get posting the guns themselves, and they don’t have the time burden of dealing with the tire kickers, low ball offers, and in their own words, “stupid” questions, or of packaging and shipping the guns out, and worrying about complaints and “static” later. Sometimes, for particularly rare items and/or high condition items, and with the consignors agreement I conduct a private treaty to “THE” or at least one of the top collectors/buyers in the country, and get whopping prices. It is my primary job to get the most money for my consigning clients. The one drawback for me is that it is very time-consuming for me personally, and I feel very personally responsible. Photos, answering questions, facilitating transfers, corrections to misregistered NFA items, and follow-up all primarily are on me for private treaty sales, so they actually are pretty rare. But, that said, when I have a client buyer who says, “I want a transferable near mint original Carl Gustav M45, and I will pay $25K plus $5K to either you or your company if you can get me one.” When a potential consignor has just such a gun and they are looking for a $15,000 reserve with a $15k - $20k preauction estimate, sometimes what I do is take the gun in on consignment, then contact the potential client buyer, verify he still is serious, and then check with the client consignor. Usually the client consignor follows my recommendation. If they decide not to, that’s fine too. I don’t normally recommend private treaty sale, but sometimes it is the best way for me to harness my contacts, expertise, and reputation to get the most for a gun. Almost always it is for a rare high condition gun. Once a gun is advertised by us, however, no private treaty is possible. My personal rule. When you have wealthy clients who are in their 60s’ 70’s or even 80’s, the money is not important to them. It is finding the gun in the condition they are looking for that is. Best regards and thanks again, -John"

Thought this would be interesting to share. The Captain Miller Thompson from Steven Spielbergs Saving Private Ryan film will be up for grabs at UKs PropStore auction at the price of what a full auto Tommy will run you. It appears to have been converted from a real Thompson to fire blanks. Lots of photos available on their website. https://bit.ly/2kw8uTK
