Its produced by Michael Mann of Crime Story, Miami Vice, etc. fame. There's a movie trailer posted. Can't wait for the release. Hope the Hollywood M drum makes an appearance!

I was lucky and got to see the set at the Biograph Theater last year. It looked just like the 1930's.

Michael Mann usually makes great movies. Here's hoping this is as good as "Heat".

But I still think Warren Oates looked a lot like Dillinger in the 1973 version.

I wonder if there are any actual recordings of Dillinger's voice? I don't think I've ever heard one.

The movie looks pretty slick and Johnny Depp always gives a stellar performance but being a big fan of the book I'm concerned that it should be subtitled the John Dilllinger Story. The title was Public Enemies with an 's" and covered the exploits in detail of Floyd, Nelson, Karpas, the Barkers, Bonnie and Clyde and other secondary players and Melvin Purvis and Hoover. Pruvis comes across as an inept dolt in the book but I suspect Christian Bale will play him more as the dashing hero. But I will go see it and hold judgement until I do. I again higlhy recommend the book of which Dillinger is a big part but so are Nelson, the Karpas-Barker and gang others. Bonnie and Clyde are rightly chronciled as the white trash killers they were and not as Beatty and Dunaway.

Seems like the best action scenes involve use of the Tommygun. Whos knows maybe this movie will bring a renewed interest in Thompsons from a new generation of filmgoers, move over "Saving Private Ryan". The one arm Thompson shooting should never have been included, they must of had a poor technical advisor or they didn't give a damn for realism. I lobbied to work in this film, (I've been in almost 2 dozen films) but I never got a call from casting, maybe it's just as well because I would have overshadowed Johnny Depp, sorry but he comes off as a wimp to me and certainly badly miscast as Dillinger. I'll go see it, but I know I'll rip it to shreads critiquing it.

If it does watch the prices climb back up.

Buy 'em while you can. Prices will go back up a few grand and then O'boy will see it and then take them from us so

'we don't gets no ideas!

Now that “Public Enemies” has started today will there be generated interest in some new Thompson gadget as in “The Road to Perdition” (quick fitting front vertical stock)?

Not that easy to see in this shrunk poster below is what looks to be a leather strap hooked by some sort of D-ring & swivel to the buttstock slide (without the buttstock).

The short green line points to the top right of the D-ring.

This is to help John keep the Tommy Gun slung over his right shoulder and under his top coat. In one of the trailers when he leaps over a bank counter you can see part of this also.

Maybe we can use it for hip-shooting skeet.

Just finished watching Manhattan Melodrama on Turner Classic Movies. G Men starts in about an hour. Looks like we're going to be bombarded with gangster movies for a while. I for one am gonna sit back and enjoy the ride. :) Hope to see Public Enemies Friday.

I suspect that anyone with a '21 TSMG will see its valure run up in the next few week, such as happened with M1A1s after the relaase of Saving Private Ryan.

Wife and I just got back from the theater and enjoyed it very much. Only dislike was the bouncing camera technique that seems to be popular in Hollywood these days. They spend millions of dollars perfecting the steadycam over years of time, and then bounce around like you are in the action, was making me dizzy at first. Thankfully it was used sparringly. Some beautiful shots of the Thompson, one view from the side seems to clearly show it as a Colt 1921. Kudos to Dan Block on his furniture's starring role! It had a great look, from the autos to the 261 rolling into Chicago Union Station under steam, no digital effects there, the real deal always pays off on the big screen. Acting was superb even if we all knew the outcome.

ISS was the studio company that provided the guns. From my understanding, they used 10 or them in the movie (I furnished them 10 stock sets with vertical grips), two being live guns, the others dummy guns. ISS is a licensed manufacturer of guns, so they can have posties... I don't know the status of the 2 live guns, but it was mentioned here previously that Doug had made live guns for the company perhaps after that actual filming of public enemies. It was my understanding that they used Richardson receivers for the dummies. It was mentioned that they (the studio company) was going to the extreme to get the correct engraving and making the guns look EXACTLY like 1921 thompsons. That being said, the "gun" shown in the picture either has a Kahr front grip (looks exactly like one) or one of mine that somebody that has heavily sanded until it no longer looks like it should. Also note that the pin, or lack of a pin in the compensator. Also to me looks like a Kahr type compensator with its roll pin that does not protrude. My first thought on seeing that picture is that they have a Kahr SBR but there does appear to be a full auto pivot plate, and no "step" on the front edge of the receiver/trigger frame interface.

So, this is what I know, what I guess, and what I see (at least until I see the movie.....). And then, maybe the DVD version where you can slow it down frame by frame and examine the minute details....

All the mag releases I saw had holes in them, clearly seen in the scene where dillinger takes the thompson apart. Several sets of sling swivels in different views.

Lots of shooting whis is always music to my ears.
