bm59collector
Mike - the only thing that jumps out at me is the serial number prefix 'X' which was used to designate selective fire rifles. When they were first brought in, my understanding with Bob Reese none of the rifles were completed, they were brought in as parts and assembled here. Some of the receivers were stamped Beretta and the receivers not stamped were marked Springfield Armory with a new serial # - this was based on a discussion I had back in 81/82 with Bob Reese. Maybe true if it was a Berban or legit Santa Fe import, but this is not the case based on the serial number starting with 'X'. So, again, buy the rifle and not the story. I'd really like to know what he's basing the 1 of 200 on. I'd like to see him produce the provenance on the rifle, but that's me. mikebaker1129
Yes , I did note the X in the serial #, but other than that ,I did not see anything special about the rifle that would lead me to believe it was a RARE 1 of 200 rifle . I realize that I am a novice to these rifles and I am eager to learn from the more knowledgeable members here ,but I was wondering what I was missing on this one . It appears as if I was not missing anything at all .
bm59collector
I believe that the individual selling the rifle has been smoking something :banghead:. I've been dealing with Springfield/Reese since 1982 per my A&D book - there never was anything called '1 of 200' model in the 80's or 90's - now, if that was before the GCA of 68, maybe. It's a nice story, but that's all it is. Then to pay Reese $25 to get a letter that it came off the wall, still nothing special. 1992 you could buy a BM59 for somewhere between 800 & 900, I'd have to look up some invoices to get the exact figure. I wish him luck, but I doubt anyone on this list will buy the story.
