M2 Plainfield

I recently aquired a Plainfield M2 in a 3 gun purchase and am haveing a problem with the Plainfield, it won't pick up a round from the mag. and chamber it. It will begain to feed up the ramp but then the bullet hits the side of the chamber short of entering the chamber. I did get it to fire a short burst by chambering a round then inserting the loaded mag. but it only fired 3 or 4 rounds befor it failed to feed, any thoughts? Steve in OR. Its factory ammo, GI mags, and the rifle could pass as unfired in condition.

15 rd or 30 rd mag ? only one or several? are they clean? are the springs in right? early with all gi parts or later production? Gi parts in coversion or aftermarket? are the mag notches in good shape or worn? how's the mag catch? does it function in semi? will it function with full auto parts replaced by semi auto parts?Things to start with.
