Turtlez06
I realize this was posted awhile ago. I saw it first on another forum. I just want to say that is fantastic work. I love how you incorporated the muzzle blank adaptor. I would love to see some more information about how you built it. I am a huge M1 carbine fan. I have to say that is by far and above the nicest looking surpressor I have ever seen someone attempt to build. Thanks for posting the images. jim c 351
Turtle,Thanks for the complements. It is unique and neat and if I'd been around in 1942 to make such a silencer the OSS would have been a big customer. It would have been very useful in occupied France. In order to make one the first thing you need is access to a medium size lathe. I turned down the end of the blank firing device and threaded it with a die. Then I made an adapter to thread onto the BFA and into the tube. Most of the baffles are modified freeze plugs. The 2 half circle items in the picture go behind the rear sight to keep the silencer aligned. I use 3 loads with this.1. Std full power carbine loads. Blast is muffled but rather loud sonic crack and some blowback upon ejection.2. medium load. 110 gr Berry plated, 7 gr unique, for 1600 fps. Quieter than full power, no blow back, still has sonic crack. About 95 % function3. low powered load. 110 gr Berry plated, 4 gr Unique, for 1000 fps, pellet gun quiet, hand operation required. Thanks again.Jim C
Turtlez06
Hey thanks Jim. It looks as though those two half circles are bearing shims. I had thought about using conical washers, but your freeze plug idea I think is better. Looks like a fun project to take on. I reload quite a bit so I will try out those you listed. I don't know what Berry plated is, but I will look it up. I am surprised no company took on that task. They made everything else for the carbine as far as accessories go. Again thanks for replying, and nice work on that. A sort of drum magazine would of been pretty cool too, Edited January 18, 2014 by Turtlez06
n64atlas
Companies won't build them because of the risk of baffle strikes.
