jim c 351
Were any M2 carbines issued to troops during WWII in Europe or did they all go to the Pacific Theater of operations? wwl, I believe some M2 carbines made it to Europe before the war ended. In the book "Terrible Terry Allen" by Gerald Astor, mention is made of a "automatic carbine". Supposedly in "the history of the 83rd inf div-42-45, there is a section about the 783rd ord co that states--2500 carbines were modified to fire automatically and all carbines in the div were modified with the adjustable rear sights previous to crossing the Roer River. This crossing was made in 2/23/45." I haven't read this account, but going by what someone told me. Jim C
skoda
Production (Inland and Winchester) was in April and May of 1945 and since Germany capitulated on May 8th it is highly unlikely. The are reports of field modified units made by repairmen. There is some detail in the "War Baby" books (forget which one) on what was done. Looks pretty simple to do. james m
There's just a few simple parts reqired to convert an M1 to an M2 carbine. However do not confuse simplicity with reliability. Jim
