First Sergeant
After a long search I finally bought a Sten Mark II (DLO tube). Headed to the Creek on Friday, what extras should I have on hand to keep it running. I have a Mark II parts kit, anything else I need? Thanks in advance. RoscoeTurner
Magainze loader and a sling is about it. Should set you back about $45 if you buy original pieces.

I'll be there with TD and Sig. RoscoeTurner is right that the sling and magazine loader are necessities. The magazine loader is especially needed if you want to fully load mags, otherwise you will probably only get about 20 rounds in them. You made a good choice on the DLO Sten. I bought mine in 1988, and I think it's the highest quality Sten out there. If you look at the reference page at the top of this board, there are some other Sten acccessories, and I will be adding details about more very soon. For example, I have 3 different magazine loaders, a bunch of different manuals, 2 different cleaning rods, an oiler, and a Canadian ejection port hand block, as well as some different stocks and foregrips. I will be looking for 2 different variant Sten stocks at the Creek that I would like to acquire for my collection. There are also Sten web accessories that can be collected, and many different markings and variations on Sten magazines. Sten accessories are a subject I'm interested in, and I've also committed to SAR that I will write an article about them in the future. Right now I'm working on a Reising accessory article. RoscoeTurner
You may also want to pick up a copy of Laider's The Sten Machine Carbine. It is an excellent book and well worth the price. I have two Stens - a MKII and another that will soon be converted to a MKV. If you are at the Creek be sure to shop around before buying any Sten magazines. The prices can range from $5 to $15 for the same condition magazines. I plan on being there Friday.
First Sergeant
Thanks guys !! I always check with the experts when I buy a new gun and have never been let down on what extras to get. I've been trying to stick with WWII era guns and the Sten (abeit a tube gun) fits right in. The next I think will be an MP43, it's one of those 'just got to have it.' I've notices over the years the same thing on mags, prices all over the place. Thanks again for the advise and I'll look for you guys on Friday. First Sergeant
Guys, Well the first transfer is approved (dealer to dealer) took approx. 6 weeks. The other dealer/seller is stuck in Romainia due to the volcanic ash situation and can't make it back till next week. He did send me a photo of the approved paperwork. One problem, the gun was sold to me as a DLO but the paperwork clearly states Taylor as the manufactuer. I got a very good deal on it but still, was expecting a DLO. Based on other posts seems just because the tube was built by XYZ company it isn't necessarilly put together by them. Any input on Taylor tube guns? Based on the seller's situation I doubt there was any intention of misrepresenting it on purpose. Normally I look at the paperwork before taking the leap. My bad on this one. First Sergeant
Well I'm guessing from the deafening silence, I got hosed. I'm going to wait until my dealer takes delivery before raising the issue. Would rather not delay that further.

Below is all that is said of Taylor Stens in Peter Laidler's The Sten Machine Carbine - Taylor, of the San Antonio, Texas area, is reported to have made a small run of Stens during the early 1980s, although nothing more is know of them. One thing I do before sending off payment for a NFA firearm is to request a copy of the previous transfer form. That gives me all the information on the firearm plus gives some indication of the legal status of the firearm. If it were me I would not be a happy customer if I paid for a particular brand of Sten and received another of questionable quality. That would be a deal killer especially in the case of a Sten of which there are many available.
tcgoll
I have a Taylor Sten that has been converted into a Lanchester, no problems at all.
First Sergeant
Some health problems and May fishing trips interferred with me checking out the Sten at my dealer's. Actually it's a pretty clean gun that has a very nice overall parkerized finish to it. In shooting the gun (I only brought my reloads) it shot well and at short range, was very accurate. I'll include some pics. The only issue I had was on a few occassions the gun would shoot in 1, 2 or 3 shot "bursts" which required me to let up on the trigger to reset it (much like a Glock's reset). Not sure if it needs a good cleaning, new springs or if the reloads are to blame. My reloads are fairly light but the gun never ranaway. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied. Opinions?
