Odd Bm59 Magazine

Recommended Posts

That's a new one for me. Any chance you can post a picture? Is the Floorplate like a Beretta or a Breda?

I have attached 2 pictures showing 4 different markings on magazines I have.

There are 2 types of Floorplates in the pics. Beretta Floorplates have a "lip" at the front & front sides that extends up over Mag body. The Breda's Floorplate is flat in front.

The blued, unmarked Magazine is 1 of 2 that came with my Grandfather's Golden State (reweld) "BM59" in 1965.

Note that the Floorplate of the Golden State Magazine is the same as the BR (Breda Roma) Magazine. I guess that Breda offered Golden State a Better Deal on Magazines.

Only my "BR" Mags are also marked on the rear.

On M14 Magazines, one of the ways to tell a USGI Mag from a Commerical or a Import is the number & placement of the spot welds. As you can see from the pic of the spot welds "Ye Olde Italian Craftmanship", not uniformity, is the norm with BM59 Magazines.

If any one has any Magazines with different markings, please post them.

I have a different floorplate. Mine are marked P.B.B.M59. One has a steel follower the other two have plastic followers. Otherwise the floorplate is identical to those in your top two photos. Tom Nord

Tom, thank you for replying.

Are your Magazine Floorplates marked P.B.B.M59 or possibly P.B. BM59?

Where did you get the Magazines with Plastic Followers? I've been told they (the ones with plastic followers) were not Italian Issue, but that they were made for "Foreign Contracts".

Are the Magazines marked on the rear near the base & do they have a "Lip" on the Floorplate Front?

I've attached 2 pics showing -

(1) The difference between Magazine Floorplates with or without a "Lip".

(2) The marking on the rear of a BR BM59 Magazine.

I purchased my black follower BM59 mags from Reese.

I was told they were made by Beretta. I ordered about 20 BM59 magazine springs from Reese about a year ago and all but 1 were M14 magazine springs . In the lot of spring were 3 of the black plastic followers still attached to the springs, yes they too were M14 magazine springs attached to the black followers.

I guess they did not bother to take them off .

I did manage to get 1 real BM59 magazine spring out of 20 that I ordered .

How well did the M14 Springs work with the Beretta metal followers? I've never seen replacement BM59 Mag Springs, although I have been offered new-in-wrap replacement metal followers (I didn't take them).

I havent tried them yet , I just was thinking ahead on the springs. But at $2 ea for the springs it was no big loss !

I can always use them in my M14 mags .They are a little shorter in length and the Bm59 springs.

TopN, They are marked P.B.B.M59. The magazines have lips and are marked in the back BM59. They all came from Reese, I'm assuming the steel follower magazine came with the Berben BM62 and the others ordered as spares. Tom
